Rob Gray of AOCS Joins Us Today to Discuss Self Directed IRAs. There were no less then 200 inquires from the audience after Rob Gray’s last appearance where he mentioned that you could set up an IRA where you had phyical possession of silver inside the IRA. When there is that level of interest in a topic I get off my “forth point of contact” (butt for no military types out there) and get it on the air fast. So Rob has returned to discuss exactly how you set up an IRA where you are in total control of all assets held within it and can physically put your hands on any items held in the IRA. I have always been opposed to phyical metal in an IRA because I simply don’t consider metal in a vault 1000 miles away to be phyical metal, the only thing I hold is a piece of paper saying the metal exists.  This method Rob lays out today takes care of that issue. Rob and I are in agreement when it comes to buying new silver that you are better off buying metal and holding it privately but many of us have old IRAs, this I think is the best use for the system we will discuss today.  Short of cashing out early and paying the penalties this is the best method I have ever seen to take full 100% control of assets (including phyical assets) inside an IRA investment vehicle. Today is my first show back at the helm after the big move.  The show was disrupted far more then in anticipated.  As anyone knows moving is a tough thing to do, moving 350 miles with multiple animals in tow along with prepping supplies is even tougher. This time we used a service from ABF to move the majority of our stuff for us, it was really the only way we could get things done.  So from Thursday the 24th until Monday the 28th we didn’t actually possess the majority of our stuff. Even on Monday when the truck showed up unloading took a day and a half and even now we are far from the organized state we left in.  So today I want to talk a bit about how exposed you are during moving and what we might do different next time around, if the hell of having to move ever returns. I also want to tell you about the new homestead.  I have learned a lot about it in the past few days some things are really awesome to discover and others not so much.  We are going to have some challenges with pond building due to rock formations that are not very deep below the soil, but the soil itself is great. I’ll be laying out contour lines soon and having a discussion with Geoff Lawton about the challenges of what turns out to be ocean rock substructures.  Tune in to hear more. Many people romanticize history.  Oh if only we could have lived in the old days right?  Taking a wagon out to homestead virgin land.  Let me tell you as a student of history it was an amazing time to be alive, it was also a hell of a lot harder then many in the preparedness movement make it out to have been. The reality is modern technology isn’t going away.  That is a great thing, it will change, adapt and face certain challenges due to energy availability but we are not going back to Little House on the Prairie.    Frankly I am okay with that. Modern oppressive government isn’t going away either.  This of course I find unfortunate but it is also reality.  The more I learn the more I realize the majority of Americans are actually for bigger and more intrusive government.  They are simply divided as to how it should be marketed.  I know if you are a fan of liberty this makes little sense but the reality is people have had generations of conditioning and it is the rare person that easily breaks the cycle. Hence to be self sufficient today we need to look at reality not at the romanticism of a history that isn’t going to return.  We also must not fantasize about the utopia promised by a small government society where we can all be left alone.  The only way to obtain this today is to create your own little pocket of as much of it as you can muster. Today we cover part two of going from zero to prepared.  If you haven’t listened to part one of this series yet, you really should do so first.  You will notice that title of this episode ends in “low cost” vs. “cheap”. As a marketer there is a rule, if you can eliminate a word do it, but that won’t work here.  Cheap sets the wrong tone for what we will discuss today, we are talking about protecting your life, your property and the lives of those you love, one doesn’t go “cheap” with such things. Today may seem like a basic beginners show but I will bet even the seasoned prepper will gain something and if nothing else will be better able to help others get started.  Prepping doesn’t have to be complex or expensive, what it must be is specific to a set of goals, today we talk about simple ways to make that happen. There is Magic Within Seeds but Saving Them Isn’t Mystical I was talking with Ben Falk of Whole Systems Design yesterday about how more and more small seed companies are now buying at least some seed from companies associated with the ilk of Monsanto. Ben was pretty shocked to hear the Johnny’s Selected Seeds is buying some of their seeds from Semanis, which is owned by Monsanto. There is a lot of fear about GMO contamination both legitimate and ridiculous specifically when the word Monsanto comes up. The best solution is to save your own seeds but we are going to also discuss how to know who you can trust when buying seeds and times where you simply do not have to worry about GMO at all.
