 Episode-1702- The Challenges of Urban/Suburban Homesteading | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:05

TweetQuail Beat Chickens in Almost Every Way for Urban Homesteading Special Report – Today I start out with a special report on Vladislav Davidson and the Regenerative Leadership Institute.  I only did this report due to so many asking about their PDC that you can take for “free” at OpenPermaculture.com.  My report is not very positive, it isn’t the type of thing I like to do but in this instance it was something had to do.  Simply due to the fact that many of you have asked about this PDC and the people behind it.  If you are here just for that it starts at 7:25 and ends about 19:10 into the show. Today I listened to a sample episode of a show I will be on soon as a guest the show is called, Myths & Facts: 9 Things I Used to Believe (and Teach) About Home Ownership That I No Longer Believe it was a story of government stupidity at its finest.  If you want the story you can listen to that episode for yourself. The short short version is a guy moves outside of city limits, can find no laws against chickens or a pile of brush on ones property but gets fined for both and must give up his chickens. On top of it a 30 year old shed ends up having no permit, in the end tearing down the large, expensive shed was his only option. I could not listen to the entire episode, this shit makes no sense.  I am so ever loving done with government in so many ways.  Yet Josh (the show’s host) makes a valid point about “ownership” mythology, that is true in far to many instances. On the other hand there are current victories in other areas.  Just this week San Antonino did something great!  They just declared Urban Farming absolutely legal in San Antonino.  In many ways what we are seeing right now is what amounts to a low violence multi front war. While many in this nation are determined to sanitize everything into conformity, others seek to regain independence and true health.  Many also frankly simple desire to regain one of our most basic freedoms.  That is our freedom to use land we own, the way we choose as long as we do no harm to anyone else.  Note that being offended, not liking what others do, etc. does not equal being harmed. As an anarchist I personally work outside the system, every and any where I can.  By inspiring frankly 10s of thousands to get shit done in this world I am creating new fronts in this war.  Others then in the system take up the fight and work inside and outside the system in their own ways. We need to balance things too. I  really recommend anyone becoming an urban farmer, suburban homesteader etc. read this great article by our own Erica Strauss, called “Don’t Be An Urban Homesteading Asshole“. Join Me Today to Discuss… The sweet spot “Urban Rural Fringe” and how it is getting harder to use The irony of yuppies in these sweet spots – they want the food we produce How this compares to marijuana on main street in Breckenridge Thoughts on finding the place for you Don’t just read laws, ask enforcers before you buy Get into an area where there are some eyesores even to your taste Ag Zoned land is best but hard to get at times Really think about what you want to do, what you can do, and should do Working the system to your advantage Consider a distributed model, ala Curtis Stone Quail and worms, over chickens Rabbits over ducks Focus mostly on the back yard Try to locate property with at least 2 neighbor free property lines Do not do “on farm sales” unless you know you are golden Select areas with public forage/hunting/fishing opportunities Accept you can’t win every fight Loosing a fight is not loosing a war The best way to win is to never get in the fight Do as much as you can inside/in outbuildings Look for at least an acre Tree your perimeter, start with the closest neighbors Work the system or fight from outside, follow what works for you Respect everyone fighting for what is right Final Thou[...]

 Episode-1700- The Christmas Special for 2015 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:25:49

TweetMost of today’s show is a recreation of 2008’s Christmas special. Today we pause and take a moment to reflect on Christmas and how it has become the Holiday we celebrate today. Many American’s have no idea just how Christmas became unique here in America, the role it played in bringing our nation together after two wars of independence and the civil war. Christmas is special and a time to pause and reflect. Christmas is indeed a special time of year, today I will cover many aspects of it that may make this Christmas just a bit more special. There is also a full text transcription on of the non commercial portion of today’s show in the show notes below. Tune in today to hear about… Christmas was banned in England at one time and even parts of America Early Americans didn’t really celebrate Christmas, (congress was in session on Dec 25th, 1789) In the early 1800s Christmas was a rowdy holiday spurred by class conflict, turmoil and unemployment In 1819, best-selling author Washington Irving wrote The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon bringing us many “ancient customs”, he simply invented Leading up to the Civil War, Christmas was a “southern holiday” and Thanksgiving a “northern holiday” How Christmas and Thanksgiving together helped to heal a young America Today is a time to pause, reflect and just be, prepping, planning and stress will all wait patiently for you Different ending music for today’s show! The most beautiful version of Oh Holly Night I have ever heard, just pause, listen and realize what really matters while it plays.  Episode-1695- Ten Ways to Live Free in an Unfree World | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:46

TweetTrue Words Unless You Moderate Being Right With Both Wisdom and Cleverness Yep this show is about active anarchy, didn’t put that in the title so it would not immediately shut down people that do not know what real anarchy is.  Anarchy is not spoiled young adult children living in the parents basements, listening thrash music and playing games while wearing a black shirt with an A on it. Anarchy is not burning down buildings, demonstrating in the streets or being a non conformist by getting the same tattoo 5,000 other people have.  It isn’t hating everyone who is a cop or works for “the system” while you yourself take advantage of the same “system” every day.  It to be blunt isn’t even dominantly a political view, it is more an ethics based view that drives a political philosophy. The ethics I am talking about are things like the firm belief, that cohesion, theft and force outside of defensive force are wrong, all the time, period the end. We accept that society is currently a bunch of spoiled children not ready to step up and be moral. We also accept that our way won’t be the dominant way in our own lifetimes. Yet for us, living against our ethics is simply not an option. We think 7-8 generations out; we live accepting the interactive edge we must tolerate with the State.   However, we adapt and we worry first about what we do, how we handle conflict and what positive change we can make before we worry one bit about what anyone else does, says, thinks or doesn’t do. This show is actually based on an article I will be releasing around the first of the year. I feel that an article will reach many people who don’t normally listen to podcasts.  But I also wanted to share this with you guys before the year ends.  I think many of you will be surprised to learn, you may have been actually practicing anarchy for quite awhile without even knowing it.  In fact many of you are far more real anarchist then people who claim to be anarchists. Join Me Today to Hear… What is freedom, what does it have to do with anarchy What the real goal of anarchy is What the limitations currently are for anarchists How anarchists must cope with the interactive edge The Ten Ways to Actively be a Modern Anarchist Write contracts that exclude the state Attempt to resolve all differences in absence of the state Create or find a non profit truly consistent with your views Make your own alcohol Avoid using the “states money” when possible Start a business Form a group that gets positive things done Be at least a “basic prepper” and step up when the state falls down Grow your own food Self educate constantly and follow your passions Final Thoughts Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1695 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TSP Gear PermaEthos.com AgriTrue.com GenForward Knife Kits – (sponsor of the day) Backwoods Home – (sponsor of the day) Fear the Boom and the Bust – a Hayek vs. Keynes Rap Anthem Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-1694- Small Batch Mead, Cider and Fruit Wine Q&A | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:52:34

TweetMy Go To Bottling Solution for Small Batch Bottling. 32 oz, Growlers. Today I am doing a follow up to Episode-1684- Making Dead Simple Ciders, Meads and Fruit Wines because I have been blown away by how many went out and gave it a shot.  I have also gotten a lot of questions about it.  I put out requests for questions on that episode and efforts so far and got a huge response, today I will attempt to answer most of those questions. I do want to lead off with something to put everything here into context though.  These quick simple small batches, especially the dump and pitch ciders are more like cooking a steak on the grill on a Wednesday night than say, making a fabulous full length roasted tenderloin, topped with onion and pepper oil along with an accompaniment fit for a Mongolian warlord!  I’ll have to tell you guys how to do that some day. The point is in one of those models you are just feeding yourself a damn good meal, you paid a fair price for a decent cut of meat, you grill it, done and you enjoy it that way.  In the other you just dropped 200 bucks on one of the finest cuts of meat known to man.  You are going to spend a lot more time and effort to make sure your meal comes out in a beyond blow your mind way. These are simple quick ciders and wines, they serve two purposes… One – Daily drinkers, something to kick back on the porch with, enjoy the evening, or drink with buddies in the garage watching a game.  Just like making burgers or steaks on the grill. Two – as ways to tweak a recipe, select a yeast, etc. before making a larger batch.  Or to find an awesome recipe for yes, that very high end product.  They key is with the same volume of ingredients that I could make a 5 gallon full run with I can make 5 test batches, in the very bottles they come in. What this means is that making ciders and meads like this can either lead to full on bad ass to the bone home vinting, mead and cider making.  Or a path to really easy and fast daily drinkers, either bottled or kegged.  Or just be a fun way to make and enjoy a few batches a year.  It is all up to you.  Just understand that is the angle my answers come from today. I have been brewing beers, ciders, fruit wines, meads and blends there of since 1994, so that is 21 years.  I have even produced a few award winning beers in my time. I rank my experience as a brewer at a 8 of 10, mainly only because I have never done full mash.  Cider I would rank as a 8 as well, mainly because I have never worked up to proper blending or real cider apples, something very hard to even get today.  I would also give myself an 8 as a mead maker, only because I have seen what a 10 is and that isn’t it. The point of all this isn’t I am awesome, it is more that this level of making ciders, wines and meads doesn’t qualify to me anyway for some of the higher levels of concern as producing the very best you are capable does.   Again think of it as grilling steaks or good burgers or say chicken, vs. cooking a full on gourmet blow you away meal for a dinner party. Final note on real wines, as in made from pressed grapes that are grown for the purpose of making wine, I would rate myself perhaps a 4!  I know what to do, but it doesn’t interest me so I don’t do it, never have done it, have no real plans to do it.  Hence all the little tricks and adjustments you learn by actually doing this stuff, I have no experience with in the “proper” world of wine. Join Me Today As I Answer Questions Like… Can you use frozen juice concentrate for cider What sugar to use for carbonation Can you use bread yeast, if so what happens What if fermentation never begins What effect does cold crashing have on bottle carboniation What about methanol – DON’T even worry about it How long is too long in a primary fermenter What is involved with racking off or fruit Is there such a thing as medicinal ciders and meads Flavoring ciders[...]

Episode-1690- Gary Collins on Primal and Off Grid Living | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:13:42

TweetGary Collins, Creator of the Primal Power Plan After an exciting career in military intelligence Collins worked for the U.S. State Department, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a Special Agent. His career took him around the world and gave him a unique perspective on not only how the United States, but the world is affected by our food, drug and healthcare policies. The highlights of his career took him from protecting some of the most powerful people in the world to investigations involving the biggest tainted pet food death case in the U.S. to the intricate dealings of one of the largest counterfeit prescription drug rings in the world. He has often said, “If American’s really knew what was going on in the area of healthcare and nutrition in this country, they would be appalled.” Gary’s love for all things primal has now led him to begin a new chapter in his life. He recently purchased 20 acres in Washington state, nearly a thousand miles north of his home in California. Today he joins us to discuss finding rural land, the challenges of building off grid and more. We also delve a bit into entrepreneurial topics, the paleo/primal diet and life and more.  Episode-1689- Why You Should Become A Gun Owner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:26:15

TweetI grew up with guns.  Got my first BB gun from a grandfather at 7 and was running though the Florida swamps alone with it by 9.  Moved to Pennsylvania at 12 and was turned loose alone with a 22 rifle and a 20 gauge shot gun, only conditions, do nothing stupid and pay for your own ammo with chores. Shot my first deer with a bow that fall, another with a rifle that winter.  I have a 22 I got that Christmas that likely had 100,000 rounds through it before I left for the Army at 17. I learned the Army way of shooting next, qualified expert with the M16 and spent time shooting weapon like the M2, M60 and other fun stuff like the SAW.  Left service and returned to PA for a bit, came to Texas and started collecting and shooting all types of guns. In all of this it gets easy to forget there are 40 year old men that are even a little bit “country boy” types that have never owned a gun, perhaps never even fired one. Today’s show is for that brand new gun owner, or the would be new gun owner.  I want to help demystify things, I want to help avail fear and I want to help Barack Obama!  What?  LOL See our current President is likely the all time best selling gun salesman in history.  Every time he opens his mouth about taking away gun rights, sales go through the roof.  Well he has about a year left, I hope to push his record over the top, to make sure that more Americans become new gun owners during his presidency than any three presidents in US history.  And you thought anarchists were not interested in politics. Ha! Join Me Today to Discuss… Replacing fear with respect Defending a right by exercising a right Yes a gun is “dangerous” so are chain saws, cars and power tools Yes you very well may need a gun to defend yourself You likely won’t need a gun to defend yourself, you likely die young but have insurance anyway Trying to reach the reluctant spouse Go to a class on safety and shooting Explain your view Ignore the statistics battles, they are pointless At some point man the F up or woman the F up Yes women you should carry too if you can Getting started Get training Find mentors Go shoot rented guns In general start with long guns Learn gun functionality Learn gun maintenance Develop protocols and procedures My basic gun battery and the reasons for it A 22 rifle A center fire rifle A 22 hand gun A center fire hand gun A shot gun Whatever you want and can afford Using airsoft as a training and practicing tool Loose the fear, seriously lose it, it is irrational and makes no sense Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1689 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom GenForward.com TSP Gear PermaEthos.com Harvest Eating– (sponsor of the day) Backwoods Home – (sponsor of the day) Uber Driver Stops Mass Shooting in Chicago Armed Assistant Principle Stops School Shooting 12 Times Armed Citizens Stopped Mass Shootings Granddaddy’s Gun – Aaron Lewis Bob Wells Plant of the Week – Flavor King Pluot The Flavor King is adaptable from zone 6 to zone 10.
