On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Microsoft has confirmed that "Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles" will not just be released on PlayStation to honor existing contracts, but "beyond the existing agreement and into the future." In a piece published to explain how the company will adapt to gain regulatory approval for its Activision Blizzard takeover, president Brad Smith addressed concerns that popular games would no longer be available on competing consoles: More than 60,000 Battlefield 2042 players have signed a petition asking for their money back, as the game continues to receive criticism for its slow update roll out and perceived lack of features. Eurogamer spotted the petition, which requested that refunds available on Steam be extended to PlayStation and Xbox customers, and said EA made "a mockery" of customers who purchased the game. Bandai Namco has made an official announcement recognizing the current technical difficulties with the Dark Souls games on PC and has said that it is now looking into Elden Ring ahead of launch to ensure the problem does not affect the new FromSoftware game. In a statement on Twitter, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware said that they are "aware of the technical difficulties players have experienced with the Dark Souls suite of games on PC", referring to the fact that servers are down after a "serious exploit" was discovered. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, which launched back in November, landed with a whole host of technical issues that earned plenty of criticism from fans (and us). But that doesn't seem to have stopped it from selling very, very well. Take-Two just gave its quarterly earnings report, during which the company said the trilogy significantly exceeded their commercial expectations. That's nice to hear, even if it doesn't really tell the whole story, as companies can essentially set whatever metrics they want internally and then say a game exceeded them. Nintendo Direct Livestream airs tomorrow Wednesday, February 9th at 2 pm PST / 5 pm ET. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, After years of rumors and reports, Rockstar has confirmed it's working on a new Grand Theft Auto game, and said that it's "well underway".IGN reported that GTA 6 - if that is indeed what the game ends up being called - was in development back in 2020, but that it was a long way from release. Further reports pegged the game to arrive in 2024 or 2025. GTA 5 and GTA Online will be released as upgraded, native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions on March 15. After a delay last year, Rockstar has confirmed that the new-gen editions will arrive soon, bringing "new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options, and ray-tracing". Twitter user Cary Golomb got his hands on a Steam Deck and showed side by side comparison on how Value Steam Deck fared in size with gaming's most iconic handheld gaming systems. With a solid Switch 2022 lineup, Pokémon Legends: Arceus track record sales, and the Switch outselling the Wii, Nintendo feels pretty good. Sony's Bungie acquisition included deferred payments to employees to help retain talent post-acquisition date. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Sony had previously expected to sell more than 14.8 million PS5s by March 2022 - a number that would have seen the console exceeds PS4's on sales in its second financial year on the market. The company is now no longer expecting to be able to reach that level of supply and is now forecasting 11.5 million sales for the year. PlayStation plans to release "more than 10" live service games by March 2026, a feat that will be helped by its acquisition of Bungie. Live service games are games that are updated with new content over time, often making the majority of their money through in-game purchases, rather than initial sales. Though not available yet, the change is planned for release as part of an eventual 9.2.5 update sometime after the upcoming major patch, Eternity's End. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan says we should expect more studio acquisitions in the future, in the wake of today's news that Sony is buying Destiny developer Bungie for $3.6 billion. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, The future of Call of Duty isn't exclusive just yet. According to a new report, the next few annual Call of Duty releases are still set to be released on PlayStation. Sources familiar with Activision's deal say for the next two years at least, Xbox will honor its commitments to release annual Call of Duty games on PlayStation. But when the acquisition is complete by 2022, Microsoft will examine the future of the franchise. Crysis 4 is on its way, with developer Crytek putting out a teaser trailer following a leak on Chinese social media. The game is still early in development and "will be a while yet". A fan Resident Evil 4 HD remaster, eight years in the making finally, has a release date. Developed by just two people and rebuilt from the ground up, is based on the 2014 Ultimate HD version, each texture essentially being scaled up 8-16 times the original resolution and redrawn from there. The games comprise a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, an FPS, and a strategy game. No release dates have been offered for any of the new games. A German physicist has found a way to make Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 playable on a 1989 Nintendo Game Boy through the use of a custom-built streaming cartridge. The technology that goes into bringing video game characters to life may be getting a lot better thanks to a unique Ziva RT tool, which is being used to create "virtual humans" like Emma - a lifelike 3D character that can run in real-time in a game engine. Fans think that an item found inside a Kingdom Hearts-themed hotel room in Tokyo may be important to the future of the series' plot. It appears Nintendo has quietly improved the N64 emulation and, in turn, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the Switch's latest update that arrived with Banjo-Kazooie. Today on IGN The Fix: Games, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has described the launch issues that plagued last year's release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy as a 'glitch' that has since been 'resolved'. During a CNBC interview, Zelnick spoke about the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, where he appeared to draw a line under the issues that the collection of classic games suffered from across a number of consoles. "With regards to the GTA trilogy, that was actually not a new title," Zelnick stated when speaking about the game. "That was a remaster of preexisting titles. We did have a glitch in the beginning, that glitch was resolved." Students from Warsaw University in Poland have created a fully detailed, to-scale map of The Witcher universe's continent, and it's a doozy that shows off the scale of Geralt's adventures from Kaer Morhen to Skellige and beyond. The map reads a lot like any other professionally designed map, just you know, with fantasy cities and countries.
