This morning, when I was writing my daily email, my oldest daughter was up early practicing the cello. Normally she takes the small step of practicing much later in the day, but she is totally busy all day and the only time she could stick to her plan was to get up as early as I do. She did it and that was why I could hear her practicing as I was writing. An email came in with a question I wanted to answer for you. My comments will follow. Back in 2009, I went on a diet. This was not your typical food diet. I had become over stimulated by news and information. I had the news on in the background when I got up in the morning. I'd catch up on it in the afternoon. I'd listen to it in the car in the form of talk radio. I'd balance that at night with comedy news like the Daily Show. I had friends that worked on political campaigns and we'd discuss the issues at coffee houses. I felt informed like a "good little citizen". That was about the time I was all sorts of scattered with my businesses. I had 5 of them still. Yesterday I talked about my mastermind buddy, "Mike", that told me the secret to him making one million dollars a month. Focus. Remember, I said that was when I decided to focus solely on Internet Business Mastery, which I did. The other thing that happened is I went on a news diet. I stopped watching and listening to ANY news, local or otherwise. I added internet business and internet marketing and I called it an information diet. I stopped listening to all the business and marketing podcasts. I unsubscribed to all the email lists and blogs I was constantly scanning. I was choking on information and using none of it. Then, I picked one thing I was working on currently in my business and focused all my info gathering on that ONE THING. As I mentioned yesterday, my business doubled for 4 years in a row because of the focus and I think equally because of the info diet. I thought gathering all that info was useful and I was getting smarter and smarter. All these years later and I realize that about 95% of what I gathered I never used (like all that info I gathered on marketing on Friendster. Ya, what's Friendster, exactly...) It was a useless treadmill of fake action. I had gathered all this info that became just an excuse not to take *real* action. My political friends were flabbergasted! How can you operate life without knowing what is going on in the news?! Well guess what? I still heard all about it from others. The difference is that I don't get swept up in the 24 hour threat of death and doom and mostly lies that is the news. It was nice to not be a part of the fear mongering the news mucks up. I heard second hand and with no pending doom threat, all about the bird flu, the swine flu, chipmunk flu, and all the other flus that were going to wipe out the world and never did. I heard about the rise of a supposed fascist that was supposed to ruin us all and I've watched my bitcoin and IRA account grow, finally. There are 1,000 things I still heard about that has affected me, but more importantly, there have been 10,000 things I missed that DIDN'T effect me and I'm grateful to not have had to fear about them. None of that has gotten in the way of my mission. I'm here to help those ready to take the small steps towards going for their dream of starting a freedom business. While all that doom and gloom is being reported I get emails from people changing their lives and the lives of others from all over the world. Did you ever see the movie, Dead Poets Society? It's the one with the late Robin Williams who's a teacher at a fancy-smancy boys prep-academy. There's a scene where here he brings all the young men he's teaching into the main hall of the academy. The hall where all the trophies and ribbons and pictures of students from the past doing great things. He asks the boys to lean in and hear what the great achievers of the past have to say to them. The boys look around at each other, incredulously. They finally lean in, to humor their teacher, while looking at these images of the great athletes and students of the past. The teacher then says, "They're not that different from you, are they? Same haircuts. Full of hormones, just like you. Invincible, just like you feel. The world is their oyster. They believe they're destined for great things, just like many of you. Their eyes are full of hope, just like you. Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? Because you see, gentlemen, these boys are now fertilizing daffodils. But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen. You hear it?... Carpe... Hear it?... Carpe. Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary." That speech get's me every time. Anytime I watch that movie and I hear that phrase, Carpe Diem (Sieze the Day) I want to do more, be more, help more people, and make my life extraordinary. Recently I learned about another phrase that I've been thinking about on a daily basis. Carpe Punctum. I think it's more of a phrase I can work with. Carpe Punctum means Seize The Moment. No matter how bad the day has been going, I can always try to turn it around and seize the moment. Every moment in our lives has the possibility of changing everything if we are willing to seize it and go for our dreams. Back when I got started I had a major fear. Actually, I had a lot of fears, but one especially stood out. I looked out over the internet and saw a LOT of people already successful doing the exact thing I wanted to do. I had the mistaken belief that if someone was already doing it, in my case a LOT of someones, then there was no room for me. I recently found a quote I saw years ago that helped: "Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But, since no one was listening, everything must be said again." ~Andre Gide You can say what has already been said, but add YOU to it. This is another reason I love the personality-based, relationship business I teach. You learn the ins and outs of the subject you want to teach and add YOU to it. No one can copy YOU. I'm a combination of my mentors, my thoughts, my actions, and what I've learned (and didn't learn) from my actions. That makes me different from anyone else, even if we talk about the same things. I'm going to say something that has been said a different way than anyone else. I bring a different angle, a different voice, and different view and so do you… See, I bet if you were to write an email based on this quote, you'd make a different point, maybe a better point. Maybe you'd make the same point, but make it more clear. You'd use a better story and point out someone that did an action that proves your point. Maybe you'd be sarcastic or more optimistic or talk about your dog. Maybe you'd decide this quote is dumb and find a different one. No matter what, if you have a desire to be heard and create value for others, do it. It may have already been "said", but not by you. About Twenty-six years ago something magically happened to me. I had just moved to San Diego after escaping the U.S. Army and I was about to go to college. I was 20 years old and other than being in the army I hadn't been outside of the state of Utah much. I was raised in a very religious city. There were even laws that were set to "help" you live by the religious rules, even if you weren't of that religious faith. One day in March, all those years ago, I came across a book that would have a huge effect on me. I've had quite a few books that had a massive and lasting effect, but this one was the big daddy. The book itself, Unlimited Power by Anthony Robbins, doesn't matter as much as the world it opened up to me. I'd never heard of personal development as a book category and the closest thing to that I'd seen might have been the Bible... The idea of being able to go to the next level with life was unknown to me. I thought going to college was going to be the biggest step up, since no one in my family had been. I thought getting a good, long-term, 'rest of my life' job was going to be just what you do. College, job, wife, kids, kids in college, grandkids, death. That's it. The idea that I could break that cycle and work my ass off for a life I had fully chosen hadn't occurred to me before I picked up that personal development book. I finished the book in a day. I re-read it the next day. I didn't know how or if there was room for someone else, but I wanted to write books like that and help others feel like I did after reading in. I had no idea how to do that, back then. In 2004 I quit that 'rest of my life' job to start my quest on finding ways to help people get to the next level in life. In 2004 when I got started, I'd have 100 business ideas a day. I'd sometimes wake in the middle of the night with a new business idea and I'd have to write it on a notepad I kept next to my bed because I couldn't go back to sleep for fear of losing the idea! If I didn't write it down I'd lay there and think about it over and over again. I'd record ideas in the car. I'd be constantly writing ideas throughout the day. I'd carry a small notepad with me everywhere I went, so I could capture another idea. Sometimes, in the middle of a conversation, I'd have to put my finger up, say, "WAIT!", and dig in my pocket for my notepad so I could jot down another damn idea. It started to become a daily drain. After about 6 months of endlessly writing down new business ideas, I finally saw a quote about the real value of business ideas. It helped me break free from the 'idea prison', of which I seemed to have had a lifetime sentence, and move to the actual *important* part of business. I can't find the original quote I saw, those 13 years ago, but here is one that that says the same thing: "Good ideas have no value because the world already has too many of them. Yesterday the site when down for about an hour. This is part of doing business online and happens a couple times a year for various reasons. I quickly got this email from someone who hadn't joined the Freedom Club, he's just getting my daily emails. Here’s what he said, word for word, and my reply and comments are to follow. "None of the links you sent me is working and if that is going to be the case then I will need to emailing to stop because the only thing it is doing is filling up my inbox." Here is my reply: -Thanks for letting us know the site is down. We get attacked by hackers about once or twice a year, so goes being in business online. We got it back up already. For being a jerk about it, I'm going to unsubscribe you. I don't allow jerks in the Freedom Club. The Sheriff is in… That ends my reply to the jerk. --Sh*t happens. All sites go down for various reasons. This kinda thing happens for an hour or two a few times a year. A quick call to the hosting company, a quick reset, and all goes fine. It's no big deal, and it's just part of doing business. I recently got an email that I'm going to share with you. I think a lot of people feel this way and I want to comment on it. Here is the email and my comments will follow. "Hi Jeremy, I emailed you yesterday about joining (the Freedom Club) after being at my friend's funeral. But now I'm having seconds thoughts. I'm going to be 50 years old I don't have any kind of a business idea and people are telling me I'm too old that online businesses are young man's game. I'm starting to believe in the negative people. Can anyone really do this? Please don't think I'm whining just unsure of myself. Thanks, Bill" --No, not just anyone can do it. That's good and bad news. Here's the good news part. The one thing you need to be able to create a successful freedom business - *you already have* or you wouldn't be on my list, emailing me, wanting to be a part of the Freedom Club. That one thing is the DESIRE to be an entrepreneur. It seems like a simple thing to have, but almost NO ONE has it. Think about it. How many people do you know actually want to be a real, live entrepreneur? How many people want to create a business that will help a specific audience that they get to choose? No one in my family or old group of friends did. At all the places I was employed, before I started my first online business, only one other person ever talked about owning their own business. One. And I worked at big businesses and worked directly with 100's of people. (That one person, Marcello, gave me the book that made me Unemployable within 24 hours! More on that another time...) Now, don't get me wrong, I know most people want the EFFECTS of running a freedom business like they want the freedom and money and recognition, but they don't want to actually create and build the business and really help an audience they choose. Does that make sense? As a side note, the age thing is nonsense. I'm 46. Most of my online mentors are in their 50's and 60's! Now the bad news... You must STOP taking advice from the WRONG people. You have to be picky about who you take your advice from. If the person that is telling you that you can't do something isn't doing it themselves and they actually know the in's and out's of what they are giving the advice about, their advice is worthless! Ya, that's hardcore, but true. Maybe the Negative Ned/Nancy that is giving you the WRONG advice doesn't have the desire to create a freedom business and doesn't think you should. Maybe they don't want you to succeed and have a better life than they do. Maybe they have good intentions and don't want you to be sad if it doesn't work out the way you want. It doesn't matter why they give crap advice, just stop listening to them. Most of my friends and family told me that I shouldn't leave a 6 figure job to go "waste my time and money on something that doesn't exist." They thought you couldn't make money on the internet 14 years ago when I started. Well, they thought you had to do unsavory things or sell garbage from your attic or garage on eBay... When things started going extremely well and I moved onto the beach in San Diego and traveled first class to England, France, and Scotland and put my kids into a fancy-smancy private school, suddenly they all changed their tune about my starting a freedom business... (Though none of them really had the desire, so in the end they didn't do it. They just wanted the effects that I had earned.) So,

During my morning reading time I came across a quote I love and I'm going to share it with you. It reminded me of how I felt when I started my freedom business nearly 13 years ago. Back then, I gulped down information for like 6 months. Anything I could get my hands on. Good information on starting a business was a bit scarce, but I gathered it all. I was excited about all I was learning, but I was getting desperate. I still hadn't made any money. But I felt like I knew A LOT! If I could go back to that time I'd give myself this quote and message: "To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want. The world is not yet a crazy enough place to reward a whole bunch of undeserving people." ― Charles T. As I've mentioned before, I get a lot of response to this daily emails. It may seem like it's a lot of negative, since I use the trolls to teach you lessons, but I get a lot of love too. Then, the next day… "Let me just say, I have never replied to anyone's emails that I subscribe to, this makes two days in a row! Hell, I don't read 99% of them but I find myself looking forward to yours everyday. I wanted to reply to this email because it hit home with me. My husband (and I) are members of the Freedom Club and we l.o.v.e it.... but we have been skipping around. See, we paid for (Someone Else's Course) and were totally bummed that we paid $1,000 for it. It had some good content, but he said it was a step by step process. As an engineer (my husband) and former (now housewife) project manager (me :)), we took step by step somewhat literal, and we were disappointed. We really didn't realize how disappointed we were until we joined the (Someone Else's Course) Facebook group and people were asking the same questions we had. Most of the time their questions were answered by group members, or the course creator, with something along the line of "stop overthinking it" and, almost always, #followthesystem. We would be glad to, but felt there really wasn't an actionable system to follow. Maybe his course is a left brain/right brain thing?? We laugh that it almost felt like taking an art class. HA! We were jaded, but decided to sign up for the Freedom Club because the financial risk was *so small*. We were happy to find out it is exactly what we thought we were getting with (Someone Else's Course), step by step actionable items! So, we skipped to the Online Course Academy so we can finish up the course we have been working on. But once we were done watching it, we went back to the beginning so we can make sure we are following the system you guys have created, it's great! This morning I was reading a book that had a chapter on self-efficacy. In that chapter it talked about the 4 aspects of confidence. Under the second aspect, called Vicarious Learning, I realized where my grandma got her most used saying. My grandma would say, "If someone else has done it, you can do it too. If no one else has done it, you can be the first!" She said that to me MANY times throughout my life, mostly when I was little. When you're little, you just believe your grandma, why wouldn't you?! As I got older, I wondered where she got that quote, if anywhere. I think I figured it out. In the Vicarious Learning section of the book, I saw several quotes that could very well have been the inspiration for her most said quote. "If it's within someone's power to achieve something, know that it's within your power to achieve that thing." ~Marcus Aurelius "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right." - Henry Ford My grandma was an avid reader, but she wasn't so good on giving credit where credit was due. If someone else had done it, I really had it in the back of my mind that I could too. The point stuck with me and was the basis for all the crazy things I did throughout my life. Even now, as logical as I can be, there is a little voice in the back of my head that says, "ya so what Elon Musk is the only human to create a 3 billion dollar business, you could too if you wanted!" Silly little voice... or maybe it's not! I now pass on that voice to you. That quote became a voice that is always there and has served me well. Now it's time to serve you well. I got another email I want to talk to you about. It’s from a VIP Freedom Club member, my favorite type of person, so I thought I’d address it here. My comments will, of course, be after the email. “...Jeremy seems awfully angry these days, so I figured I'd reach out to you… I was kind of joking about Jeremy although it's definitely a switch in tone from pre-everyday emails. Mostly I like it. Sometimes it feels strange. Like he's trying on a persona. Maybe when contrasted to the tone in Freedom Formula, which I listened to over the course of a couple days, it's more striking. “ ~Brett ---Have you heard of the fictional characters called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? In the story, Dr. Jekyll is a nice, friendly, well-made man with many friends. He is liked and he represses his dark side so those around him have no idea what lurks inside. Mr. Hyde is his dark side, who is always trying to come out. Eventually, he starts to take over and Dr. Jekyll has to make a serum he must take to stop Mr. Hyde from surfacing. After 13 years of doing business, I found several things… I thought you just had to be nice to everyone to do business, so I only showed that part of my personality. I was ‘rated G’, super nice on my podcast, in my boring-ass emails, and in my courses. I recently realized that all the mentors I most look up to are only nice in ONE PLACE. ...in their courses. In their emails and on their marketing they were very hardcore honest. They didn’t hold anything back and truly said it like it is when they talk to ‘prospects’. You had to earn their amiable behavior by buying their courses, completing the Value Cycle and proving you deserved it. I decided to do a test. I decided to be the WHOLE me. Not just the nice side, but the whole, real, deep, complex human being I am. I decided to give those that were considering buying the good, the bad, and the handsomely ugly parts of me. My mentors said that is the part you have to be transparent about, you. I wasn’t doing that. I was the Disney version of me, but no more. I unleashed Mr. Hyde. In return, to complete the Value Cycle (I talk about in the Freedom Club), I decided to add all 10 of my courses into one place.
