Giles Cole talks about "The Art of Concealment" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 644

Giles Cole joined me by telephone during the Afternoon Show on Vectis Radio to talk about his forthcoming play "The Art of Concealment" which opens at the Iambic Arts Theatre, Brighton and forms an integral part of "Brighton Festival Fringe".   The Art of Concealment: The Life of Terence Rattigan PERFECT TIMING, INTRIGUING PLAY The world première of a new play by Giles Cole He was one of the most acclaimed playwrights and screenwriters of his generation. His fall from critical favour marked a turning point in modern British theatre. He wore a carefully constructed mask of respectable, suave gentility in order to conceal his true nature, but who was the man behind the mask? Who was the realTerence Rattigan? Terence Rattigan, one of the most acclaimed playwrights and screenwriters of his generation This is a play not only about the demons that haunted one of our great playwrights, but about the creative process itself, and the process of ageing, of loss, of unhappiness in love, and of ultimate disillusionment – with the ironic twist that we knowRattigan to be more honoured now, at the centenary of his birth, than he would ever have expected in his lifetime. Giles Cole has written for radio and stage and is a former actor. His writing credits include seven plays for BBC Radio 4 and eight stage plays. He has twice won the Sussex Playwrights annual play competition, and last had a play performed on the Brighton Festival Fringe in 2003 (Frail Blood, directed by Roger Braban and starring Peter Ellis,Mary Conlon, Vanessa Goodliffe and Hilary Farmiloe). Giles Cole Recently he has written a one-act play about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in their declining years, and compiled an entertainment celebrating the works of Sir John Mortimer, which was directed by Marilyn Imrie and performed at the Henley Literary Festival in 2009 and at the Garrick Club in 2010 – the latter with Hugh Bonneville,Geraldine James, Geoffrey Palmer and Katie Warren in the cast.  Calder`s Confessions Show 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9435

Tonight was an extremely emotional show where we heard first hand accounts from parents who are battling to ensure that Southampton Generals Paediatric Cardiac Unit stays open despite the governments inherently flawed "Safe and Sustainable" review which threatens it with closure. Real people talk openly and honestly about their experiences at Southampton General. I was brought to tears a few times, please listen and make your own mind up. The message from tonight's show is very clear to me, closing this unit at Southampton will cost the lives of innocent children as well as complicate the lives of people who just don't deserve it. Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, put your pen down, take a seat for a few hours and listen to the reality of the impact your review is having.

An NHS review now threatens this unit with closure and this group, who clearly understand and value and necessity of the place are not about to sit back and let that happen without a fight. A selected few have agreed to talk to us live on air and not only give us their stories but also reiterate their concerns.
