She is also an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for adults and teaches French as well. I am so excited to introduce my long time friend to you, she is a dynamo with a deep well of Wisdom and Insight. She' razor-whip sharp and funny as all get out. And her journey is quite inspiring, you must hear the amazing way she and her co-founder Samuel Leadismo came together and created Pastoralist Child Foundation!! It's WILD! There are laughs throughout that we share due to our long history of sisters in friendship, I crack up when she says her dad's name...both our fathers were born not only in the same year but in the same month AND have the same last names!! Sayydah is convinced we are related and I don't doubt it! When you hear her journey to date, it's no wonder to learn of the amazing work she is doing. The mission of Pastoralist Child Foundation is to eradicate the harmful practice of female genital mutilation (FGM or female circumcision) and early marriages of young girls to older men in the pastoralist Maasai communities of Kenya, Africa. The children in Maasai communities want to get an education and achieve their dreams - like children everywhere else. The state of Change is not a place we like to end up in. It can feel like we drove off the road, lost our way or fell asleep at the wheel. And transitions can feel the worst especially if there is some type of loss involved--loss of a parent or life partner, relationship or friend, a job, a career or a way of being--there can be gaps of a clear direction and what felt normal becomes anything but. We often ask ourselves who are we without _______  because at times, what is lost is how we defined ourselves. And depending on how extreme the Change is, we get scared, freak out or sit in a depressed stupor. Or all the above.  I remember when I was in what felt like a horrendous transition during a shift away from the showbiz industry--I was a basket case and felt so lost--what was my life without being an entertainer? What the heck was I going to do with myself next? That was the only passion I had (so I thought). And who was I really??? Who was I without being on stage?????? (Happily I found answers, LOTS of them! But that's for another episode!!) In "The Talk" segment, I muse on how uncomfortable and off-setting Change is and give you some tips and tools to navigate it with more Grace. Whenever I find I am on the road of HSOM (High Stress Out Mode), I tell myself to take my own advice and apply this list! In this guided meditation you have an opportunity to consider which of the 7 tips you will choose to work with. The music for "The Talk" is called Dande which is a traditional song in Shona Music, the music of Zimbabwe, Africa. I play on a magical instrument called dzavadzimu mbira, a particular type of mbira. I find the instrument to be soothing and calming while at the same time having an invigorating effect that is oh-so-good.
