The sequel to the Bill Haley movie was called Don't Knock the Rock. It was remade just a few years later as Twist Around the Clock, which itself had a sequel named Don't Knock the Twist, which is really stretching it.

The book Amanda's mom read was Unbroken, which is about a WWII POW, but he was not a survivor of that particular ship.
