 S5 E32 - One year on from Ole's apology at Goodison | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:39:34

Exactly one year ago today, Manchester United were humiliated by Everton at Goodison Park. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer apologised to fans but it wasn't enough. This was one of the worst defeats for the club in Premier League history, at least. With a year having passed and the pandemic-enforced break giving us a chance to reflect, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss how Manchester United have progressed since that miserable day in Liverpool (more miserable than the others at least...) We talk about the mentality of the squad, the transfers made and the players who have been sold. We also choose one goal each to recommend you, the listener, to go and watch on YouTube to fill the time or distract yourself in these strange times. That's near the back end of the episode. If you enjoy the show, please give us a review or share us with your mates. Cheers.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Much-Cited United: Busby Babes in Madrid | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:20:09

In the second episode of 'Much-Cited United', Harry Robinson looks at a European Cup semi-final between the 'worldly' Real Madrid of the 1950s and the Busby Babes. It's April 11th and on this day in 1957, Sir Matt Busby took his young Manchester United side to play the European champions, Real Madrid. Los Blancos were too good for the Reds and won 3-1. Through the lens of that game, Harry chats to the brilliant Roy Cavanagh MBE, an author of numerous football books, interviewer of United greats and United fan from birth. Roy remembers the 1956/57 season and takes us through United's first ever European campaign. We talk Tommy Taylor, Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton, Billy Whelan and more. If you enjoy this show, we’d recommend buying and reading John Ludden’s brilliant book on United and Real Madrid’s relationship ‘A Tale of Two Cities’.  Much-Cited United: 7-1 vs Roma | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:11

Welcome to the new mini-series from the Manchester United Weekly Podcast: ‘Much-Cited United’. We look back at some of the most significant games in the club’s history. By doing so, we find stories we weren’t expecting to, discuss players we thought we’d forgotten and, maybe, just maybe, put a smile on your face during these strange times. It’s April 10th and on this day in 2007, Sir Alex Ferguson’s young Manchester United side achieved a win of such great proportions that it was deemed “a feat that is without precedent and, quite possibly, beyond repetition.” You’ll hear from legendary commentator Clive Tyldesley who has delivered so many iconic lines in Manchester United’s history. He was at Old Trafford on that night. You’ll hear clips not only from his commentary, but also from his recent interview with the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. This podcast was produced by Harry Robinson in partnership with United Through Time.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

 S5 E30 - Goalkeeping conundrums & a big win | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:35

A 1-1 draw with Everton followed a 5-0 thrashing of Club Brugge and both results leave plenty of questions to be asked by hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. Should David de Gea leave to make way for young Dean Henderson, out on loan at Sheffield United? Or should United stay loyal to De Gea, the player with the 32nd most appearances in the club’s history? Just how good has Bruno Fernandes been? Has any recent United signing come close to his instant impact? Odion Ighalo’s first goal for United is revelled in and Scott McTominay’s return from injury is a boost. As well as all of that, we preview upcoming matches in the FA Cup and Premier League, against Derby County (A) and Manchester City (H). And in addition to ALL of that, we’ve got our regular and extensive youth and women’s round-up.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

 S5 E24 - Burnley blues but six in the Cup | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:42:15

For the first time in nearly a decade, Manchester United score six goals in a single match, demolishing a poor Tranmere Rovers side and in doing so, bouncing back from a humiliating defeat to Burnley at home in midweek. We discuss both of those games and more on Series 5 Episode 24 of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. As always there is our youth, loan and women’s round-up in the middle of the show but we begin by talking about a 6-0 win in the FA Cup. It’s been nine years since we’ve scored that many in a game, going back to the 8-2 win against Arsenal in August 2011.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

 S5 E23 - Beaten at Anfield | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:38:02

Nothing is more humiliating or humbling than being somewhat pleased by a 2-0 loss to your biggest rivals, but that is where Manchester United are now. Who’s to blame? Well, we’ve heard it all before. This is a club that’s been dragged into this position by top level executives more interested in financial spreadsheets than silver trophies. We dissect that defeat at Anfield and more in Series 5 Episode 23 of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

 S5 E22 - Norwich wins plasters over wounds | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:27:21

Manchester United recover from a terrible week to thrash Norwich City for four at Old Trafford. The Reds had been humiliated by a far superior City side, drawn in the Cup at Wolves to force an unwanted replay having already lost to Arsenal on New Year’s Day. Four goals at Norwich put a plaster over the wounds, but don’t quite stitch them up. We discuss the latest ongoings at the club in S5 E22. As always, there’s our extensive youth, loan and women’s round-ups in the middle of the show. There’s also the small matter of a trip to Anfield to preview…  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It’s 2020. Welcome to the New Year, the new decade and the fifth year of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. Take things back to the start of the 2010s and the idea of a podcast run by us two would have been more confusing than unbelievable. But in this episode we’re looking back at the 2010s, a decade in which Manchester United have overwhelmingly disappointed and yet have won five major trophies and reached the finals of two European competitions. This is United we’re talking about. We go through the top goals, moments, games and signings of the decade as well as the worst five games and the signings we missed out on.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
