This week on InGoal Radio presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports we give you sneak peek at the future of goaltending with Spencer Knight, the consensus top-ranked goaltender for the NHL Draft this weekend in Vancouver. It’s a compelling conversation, with Knight talking about the importance of patience on his skates, his approach to wide-open practice drills against some of the best players his age on the US National Team Development Program (including projected No. 1 pick Jack Hughes), and how playing as a forward, both in hockey and for even longer in lacrosse, has helped him become a better goaltender and puck handler.  There’s plenty of good advice for young goalies and parents alike, and after listening to the future Boston College goalie talk about the position for close to half an hour, it’s easy to understand why so many expect him to be selected in the first round on Friday. Plus, we recap the Stanley Cup run by impressive St. Louis Blues rookie Jordan Binnington (and explain why his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs would never have drafted the 6-foot-1 stopper), discuss some of the other trends that dominate the draft discussions about puck stoppers, and we check in with Cam at The Hockey Shop for a complete overview of the new Bauer Vapor 2X Pro chest protector.

This week InGoal Radio presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, is one to pay close attention to. We all learn about gear and technique but if it’s true that the game is 80 or 90 percent mental then Dr. John Stevenson is someone you need to listen carefully to. He has guided Braden Holtby and Carter Hart since both were young. Stevenson started as a goaltending coach – right up to the NHL level – and transitioned into practice as a sports psychologist. In fact, when Holtby won the cup, after his family, Stevenson was the first person he thanked saying he wouldn’t have been there without him. Imagine what you could learn…. In the interview we talk about a workshop Stevenson is presenting across the country with another well-known goaltending mindset expert, Pete Fry (himself an NHL-drafted goaltender). The first sessions will be in Vancouver June 22/23.
