Episode 58 Bob Essensa, Trade Deadline and PadSkinz | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:24:16

we catch up with Bob Essensa to talk about everything from a playing career that started, as so many do, as the little brother that was forced into the net and ended with six NHL teams over 12 seasons before becoming the Boston Bruins goaltending coach in 2003. The man they call Goalie Bob shares insights as a goalie who played in the "fear factor" era, when shots really hurt, and through the evolution to equipment that not only better protected you, but also pads that actually rotated in the butterfly. He talks about staying current in an ever shifting coaching environment, and working with a future Hall of Fame goaltender like Tuukka Rask, including all the questions and criticisms he gets from other goaltending coaches in the summer about Rask's preference for "shin on post" on sharp-angle plays. The answer is revealing. In The Hockey Shop’s Gear Segment we speak with Cam about the PadSkinz, the easy-to-apply do-it-yourself way to change up your pad and glove colors and graphics if you find yourself changing teams for spring or summer hockey, and a perfectly timed segment given the NHL trade deadline left goalies like Jack Campbell doing the same to transform his Los Angeles Kings equipment into Toronto Maple Leafs colours. Speaking of trades, Dad, Woody and Daren discuss the moves that happened -- and maybe more pointedly, some of the ones that didn't -- ahead of this week's deadline, as well as the EBUG heroics of David Ayres for the Carolina Hurricanes in Toronto over the weekend, and what it might mean for how the NHL handles similar situations in the future.

In this Episode of the InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, we took the opportunity on Bell Let's Talk Day to chat with Justin Goldman, founder of The Goalie Guild, about his Lift the Mask program designed to help goaltenders improve their mental health. It's a subject our audience is familiar with based on past episodes with guests like Clint Malarchuk and Corey Hirsch sharing their battles with mental health, and one with strong ties to the goaltending world, from Robin Lehner's well documented struggles with, and recovery from, addiction and mental health disorders, to Finnish goaltender Jonathan Iilahti sharing his struggles in an article on InGoal Magazine earlier this season. Goldman has some insightful thoughts on the blurry lines between mental health and mental performance that will benefit goaltenders, coaches and goalie parents of every age, experience and level. In the gear segment presented by The Hockey Shop, Cam and Woody look at one of the most important pieces of equipment in every goalie's bag: the goalie jock. And yes, there's a way to fit it properly, which is why we only buy from the goalie staff at The Hockey Shop: they play the position, love the position and know how to help you find the right gear to keep you performing well -- and in this case playing safe.

 Episode 53 David Leggio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:28:45

In this Episode of the InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, we chat with longtime pro goaltender and coach David Leggio. He’s won a championship with Clarkson University where he earned the leagues top goalie award, he’s been an American League starter. He twice represented his country at  the World Championships and at the 2018 Olympics in South Korea. He won a Finnish league championship with TPS and played 4 years in the German League where he also won a Championship with Red Bull Munich...oh, and you might know him because two leagues changed their rules when he knocked his net over, preferring to face a penalty shot than a 2-on-0, even signaling for the penalty shot himself. We love that bold creativity,  but we loved this interview even more for everything else he brings to the conversation. Leggio has worked with so many great coaches and goalie-partners over the years as he built his own impressive pro resume, that he has insights as a goaltender that make for fascinating conversation. We talk technical insights, deploying tandems, dealing with adversity, including a very significant concussion, and more. We're already looking forward to our next conversation with David Leggio. In the gear segment presented by the Hockey Shop, Cam and Woody get back together to look at Bauer's 2S line, both Pro and other price points as they are now on sale with some fantastic deals! You can see all the deals they discussed right here at TheHockeyshop.com/goal and you can check out InGoal's review of the 2S Pro right here at InGoalMag.com

 Episode 52 Robin Lehner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:26:14

In this Episode of the InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports , we sit down in the Chicago Blackhawks locker room with Robin Lehner to talk about being unpredictable to shooters, his success behind two very different teams and of course his personal journey. His open and honest manner shines through in this interview and we can hear why last year's Masterton Trophy Winner has been such an inspiration to others.  We switch things up a bit again in our gear segment as we are joined by Kane van Gate. He's a YouTube beer-leaguer on a continuing journey to (he hopes) realize his NHL dream. He is (seriously) a Bauer brand ambassador and has been a guest at The Hockey Shop's TendyFest. That visit to Vancouver spawned another dream KVG38 is about to realize - that of documentary filmmaker. His Hockey Journey will premiere in St. Louis on January 27th and all of as in the InGoal Offices are excited to see what he has up his oversized goalie-sleeves - no doubt it will be as entertaining as his YouTube series The BHL Life.

Episode 51 Joel Hofer and Jorge Alves | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:22:46

In this Episode of the InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports , we chat with Canada's Gold Medal winning goaltender from the World Junior Championships, Joel Hofer, just after his return to Canada. Hofer, who was also named the Tournament's top goaltender is a fascinating story; he didn't play AAA hockey until he was 16, was never drafted into major junior hockey, and had never before played for his country.  In fact, when Canada brought their top junior netminders together this past summer for their Program of Excellence camp, Hofer was not on the list of invitations. As he always has, the 6'5" St. Louis Blues prospect kept working, producing a remarkable first half of the season with his WHL club, the Portland Winterhawks, and earned an invitation to the Canadian Team's final camp before the World Championships. He didn't start Canada's first game but once he got the net he didn't let go. His calm, steadying influence was a major reason for the Canadian victory. For our gear segment sponsored by the Hockey Shop we wanted to talk to an NHL equipment manager to give you some insights into the gear in the NHL locker rooms and the role the equipment manager plays in keeping his goaltenders on top of their game. We found one who does all of that, and a whole lot more. A former pro himself, Carolina's Jorge Alves frequently takes the net in practice himself to give the Hurricanes' starters much-needed rest and it's a role that Carolina players have told us over the years is an important one for the club. In fact, Alaves was even pressed into service as an EBUG (Emergency Backup Goaltender) and fate saw him get into the game and he now sports an NHL career that lasted a record 7.6 seconds.
