This week we'll acknowledge many historical events whose anniversaries occurred either within the past week or will come up this week such as the Attica Uprising September 9-12, 1971, which came on the heels of the August 21, 1971 murder of George Jackson, the murder of 6 young black children in Birmingham, Alabama (4 at the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church and 2 others later that day). And of course, yesterday marked the anniversary of 9/11. We'll also be joined by Chinweizu Abu, the Moderator for the Millions for Prisoners Human Rights Coalition to update us on the events and results of the #shutemdown2021 movement.

President Joe Biden blasted unvaccinated citizens while implementing a vaccine mandate for millions of federal employees and sub-contracted workers. One of the most critically acclaimed movie-makers of all time, Woody Allen is a New York City and entertainment icon. In addition to his flicks, he's a celebrated comedian, a concert-playing musician, and bestselling author - Apropos of Nothing being his most recent book. Published in 2020, the text recounts his life, celebrated career, and "romance" with Soon-Yi Previn. In addition to being non-white, adopted/abducted from Vietnam, and decades younger than Allen, Previn was Allen's stepchild. Despite a damning Child Protective Services investigation and years of allegations of child rape and sexual abuse of children, Allen remains beloved my hoards of Whites. We'll examine this work for what it reveals about White culture. During our last reading, Allen went on the defensive, challenging allegations that he's sexually attracted to young girls. While citing his record of dating age appropriate women, he details his courting of Diane Keaton, who starred in the Godfather saga. Allen lets us know he "dated" Keaton's two other sisters as well. He clarifies his priorities saying he was "obsessed with gangsters, baseball players, jazz musicians, and Bob Hope movies." Not young girls. Jessica Rodriquez, a member of Take Back The Bronx and works with Root & Branch Collective NYC, will join us in a discussion concerning obtaining accurate information from inside jails and prisons about the horrors of prison slavery. To that end, another group has emerged called Eyes On You NYC that is taking up some of these issues. I am a mother and a grandmother who has a son who has been through the system his whole teenage life and adult life. All my children and grandchildren's fathers have been held captive at one point or another in these cages they call jail/ prison. As part of the Eyes on you Committee, it is our goal to push our way into these cages to directly speak with the people who are suffering there. We want to be the eyes and ears to deliver accurate and true information about the horrors that go on inside,,, we want it to be told directly from those suffering. We want people released. Although there was no spectacular flooding this time, the wind damage left 1 million people without power and legions without running water. There's no timetable for when New Orleans's residents will be able to return. However, "Anti-Looting Patrols" are actively securing the "Crescent City." On the west coast, wild fires forced tens of thousands to evacuate, destroyed hundreds of acres of California land, and blanketed the pacific coast with a smokey haze. Labor Day celebrations would be decidedly dampened with the numerous U.S. disasters unfolding. From Washington state to Illinois, worker shortages are making a stressful start to the new school year even more anxious - if not down right impossible. A week after the Food And Drug Administration officially approved the Pfizer vaccine, more businesses and universities moved to require vaccines for all students and/or employees. On one hand, White police officers, White fire fighters and a myriad of other workers loudly oppose these requirements. The fake vaccine card business is booming, and there are support groups to assist employees successfully claim a religious exemption to vaccines.
