Holding The Hip Hop Industry Accountable and Returning Hip Hop To Its Roots | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:02:00

Today's Guests: Attorney Lauren P. Raysor & The Regiment DSL/Broadband Listeners Click Here "Following the second anniversary of the shooting of her client, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, by rap and hip-hop artist Remy Ma, attorney Lauren P. Raysor announced on August 24 that she is asking all record companies to include a "morality clause" in their contracts with new artists. Ms. Raysor says this will act as an incentive for these artists not to engage in violent or criminal activity and also provides protection for these artists from other people who may intend to inflict great harm on them." Modern day hip hop has become a battleground where blinged out messiahs of materialism have often gained the upper hand, but MCs OSI and IseQold of the Regiment are the positive force for change in music. OSI had originally formed the Regiment as a vehicle to showcase his skills along with those of his partner C. Reid. Based in Detroit, they had done several shows locally before being selected to be part of the Rawkus 50, a compilation selected by Rawkus Records that represented a who’s who of today’s hottest emerging Hip Hop artists. The project was a success and the Regiment stood alongside some of the best upcoming hip hop in the nation. And while that would’ve been enough for some, OSI was wanting more. After the departure of Reid, OSI connected with IseQold, another Detroit MC who also shared a desire to make music that could speak to more than the materialistic.

Snappin' Ministries: A Special Needs Parent Network | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:47:00

The scheduled guest had a family medical emergency and will be rescheduled, please visit the website for information about Snappin' Ministries. In 2002, the Dittrich family sought to connect with other parents who were facing the trials of raising a child with special needs. Having a two-year-old son with severe hemophilia, they found incredible support in the secular world, but craved a more faith-based approach to coping with the challenges of daily living. DSL/Broadband Listeners Click Here After seeking out another couple who had a more visibly disabled son, it quickly became apparent to the Dittrichs that God was not calling others, but THEM to serve this community. The original meeting, a potluck with six couples, began at their home and then moved to regular meetings at Crosspoint Community Church in Oconomowoc, WI. Snappin' Ministries was incorporated outside the church October 23, 2007, receiving full 501(c)(3) non-profit status January 29, 2009. Besides serving families locally, the organization seeks to establish this outreach in churches and communities nationwide. At Snappin' Ministries, our mission is to provide compassion, support, help and resources for the parents of children with special needs.

Jeffrey Hilaire of Hood Success - Black Teen Empowerment Radio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:32:00

Today's Program: DSL/Broadband Listeners Click Here Many states since the the 1990's have been trying youth as adults. This tough on crime approach has not reduced crime among youth and a disproportionate number of youth charged as adults have been African-American. Bill Cosby, speaking out against education cuts in the Pennsylvania noted that it cost $5,000 to educate a child while it costs over $33,000.00 to incarcerate an individual. It is clear that if you want to reduce crime committed by youths then you must provide for their education and reach out to them with programs that will deter them from participating in the "Thug Life" culture. At 15 stealing cars and breaking into houses, I thought that life was about taking what you think you deserve not having any consideration for the

Chimp Out - Racist Message Boards and Websites - Why is this protected speech in the United States? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:32:00

Under the guise of free speech, many hate groups and individuals have been permitted to inject racism, discrimination and prejudice against minority groups in America. DSL/Broadband Listeners Click Here Many countries, like our neighbor to the north, Canada, have laws against hate speech that provide both criminal and civil penalties to those who engage in racial, ethnic and religious hate speech. While those who practice and publish hate speech that can and has led to violation of the civil and human rights of groups targeted by such speech, may be able to currently hide behind the Constitution, companies that facilitate the promotion this activity by providing a platform from which to do it, are not protected from consumers. Glen Beck, the host of a national opinion program on Fox News without a legitimate basis, called President Obama a racist. As a result, due to a public outcry, advertisers have removed their ads from his program leaving only a few and of course News Corp, the parent company of Fox News, to subsidize Glenn Beck's hate speech and his propaganda program. Companies that provide platforms for these groups to publish their hate infecting the entire society should be boycotted and held partially liable if they knowingly permit their services and products to be used to hurt and disparage others.

The Katherine Moore Story - Under Oath: Memoirs Of An Honest Politician | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:02:00

Today's Program: We be joined by Dr. Katherine Moore, former Mayor of Wilmington, NC and author of the book "Under Oath: Memoirs Of An Honest Politician. DSL/Broadband Listeners Click Here "When I was six years old, my grandfather was struck by a car and died in my arms. I became a single mother of two children age 16 years and 18 months old when my husband abandoned us. A year later, my brother whom I had loved as my own child committed suicide. He was 26. I have known pain, grief, disappointments, racism, poverty and hunger; but nothing in my life prepared me for the ten years that I have served on the city council in a mid-size North Carolina town. As I prepared to join the council, I researched newspaper articles and minutes of meetings. I was appalled to discover the blatant misuse of federal block grant monies that had been targeted for the poor. There were monthly charges of police brutality, including a dog choke collar being tightened around the neck of an elderly Black gentleman. My book entitled, "Under Oath: Memoirs Of An Honest Politician" chronicles briefly my life before politics, my rise to Mayor Pro Tem of a city of nearly 100,000, and the 10 year nightmare that I have endured at the hands of corrupt politicians. Even my children have been victimized. My son who worked for the state has paid with his job. My daughter, a student at Harvard has experienced the year from hell, thanks to the "Long arm of the law." - Dr. Katherine Moore Support the Black Talk Media Project - Make A Donation Today!

Special Guest Dr. Wilmer Leon Discusses Racial Profiling and "Black Man 101" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:32:00

On Today’s Show DSL/Broadband Listeners Click Here We will be joined today by Black Star News columnist Dr. Wilmer Leon who is the producer and host of the nationally broadcast call-in talk radio program On With Leon. Dr Wilmer Leon is also a Teaching Associate in the Department of Political Science at Howard University in Washington, DC. Most people in the United States and perhaps the world have heard the much-publicized story of the arrest of Harvard Professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the ensuing controversy. The debate has wrongly been divided along racial and political lines and many are basing their views on false or incomplete information. What President Obama deemed a teachable moment for America might have been lost in rhetoric. Dr. Leon wrote that Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. failed Black Man 101 in his article Dr.Gates, Malcolm X Said A Black Man With A PhD Is..... While most of America may have moved on from the Gates incident for too many Americans, problems with Racial Profiling remain. What procedures should anyone stop or detained by police follow? Is Racial Profiling a issue that needs to be taken up by the Federal legislature or is it best handled at the State level? *The views and opinions expressed by the host, guest and callers do not necessarily represent the views of the Black Talk Media Project, Black Talk Radio Network, Sponsors/Advertisers or Partners.
