The Adventure Podcast

On this week's episode we sit down for a chat with Everest summiteer, big mountain skier, and filmmaker Ben Clark, who talks about what it is like to climb and ski in the Himalaya. Ben also tells us about his documentary film "The Snowman Trek" during which he and a team of ultrarunners set a new speed record on one of the toughest trails in the world. But first, we start the show with adventure news, and of course wrap it up with some reviews of our favorite gear items we're currently using. 

This week we're joined on the podcast by British adventurer, climber, and endurance athlete Ray Betts who talks micro-adventures, climbing Kilimanjaro, his upcoming attempt at Aconcagua, his favorite gear, and more. But first we talk about the latest adventure news, including a daring rescue in the Karakoram and fake climbing permits for Everest. And of course, in our gear segment we share some favorite new products, including a drone and an adjustable sleeping bag. 

We're home from the Denver Outdoor Retailer show with a host of new gear to talk about. Dave and Kraig pick their favorite items that they saw at the show, most of which won't be hitting store shelves until spring of 2018, but you get a sneak peek here first. The show starts off with some adventure news however, including a look at the Tour de France that just ended and a wrap up of the Karakoram climbing season in Pakistan. 

We're joined by special guest Frank Ledwell of OutdoorX4 magazine this week as record the show live in Denver, Colorado. We're there to attend the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, where the latest and greatest outdoor gear is on display. In this episode, we share our thoughts after two days at the show with a sneak peek at the best new products we've seen so far. 

We're one week out from Outdoor Retailer, to this week we talk a bit about the show, bring an update on the Tour de France, and take a peek at some interesting expeditions that are currently taking place. Then we jump into our main topic on adding micro-adventrues to your life and how that can lead to much bigger adventures down the line. Finally, we wrap things up with our weekly gear picks. 

As usual, we start the show off with some adventure news, including a look at the start of the 2018 Tour de France and how everything has already been thrown into disarray. We also have updates from the Karakoram and news about an unusuall expedition that ran the length of Africa. After that, Dave and Kraig share some tips on how to save money when buying outdoor gear, before wrapping up the show with some new gear picks of their own.

After a couple weeks off, we're back with a full-length episode to catch everyone up on the latest adventure news. Our main topic for the week is a preview of the 2018 Tour de France, scheduled to get underway on July 7. We talk about the route, Chris Froome getting cleared of doping chargings, and possible contendors, before moving on to our weekly gear picks. Thanks for listening. 

Dave's off this week so Kraig flies solo with an abbreviated episode focused on a few big adventure news stories, including a new speed record on Denali, updates from the Karakroam, and both good and bad news for the environment. 

This week we start the show with adventure news with stories about a new speed record on El Capitan, some disturbing stories from the Himalaya, and the return of a legendary adventure race. Then we discuss how to get started in that sport with some tips for beginners eyeing their first race. Finally, we wrap things up with our gear picks for the week, with a new device to keep your gadgets charged and an option for water at the campsite. 

After taking a week off, we're back at it with a brand new episode. Since so much happened while we were away, we thought we'd catch up on some major adventure news that went down, including a summary of the Everest climbing season, the final results of the Giro d'Italia, and a new speed record on the most iconic route in climbing. Then, we wrap things up with some gear picks, turning a spotlight on some items that we've been using lately. 

On this weeks show we induct another member to our Adventure Badass Hall of Fame by discussing the impressive resume of Ukranian Fedor Konyukhov, who has done more in his life than most other do in multiple lifetimes. But first we share adventure news from the Himalaya, updates on the Giro d'Italia, and a daring new expedition to bike across Antarctica. As always, we wrap things up with some great new gear products, this time with a travel slant. 

On this week's episode of The Adventure Podcast, Dave shares some very helpful tips for planning, organizing, and executing family camping trips. He'll tell us how to get your kids interested and excited about the outdoors as he shares some really great advice on how to take the entire family into the backcountry. Of crourse, we also share the latest adventure news with updates on the Himalaya climbing season, the Giro d'Italia, and the outdoor industiries potential #metoo moment. As usual, we wrap up the show with our gear picks of the week, including another satellite messenger device and some new footwear for trail running and mountianeering.

This week we give a listiner some advice on how to turn your passion for the outdoors into a career, offering up some thoughts on where to go to build the skills and contacts you need to get started in this industry. But first, we share news on a massive adventure in the Alps, highlights from the Giro d'Italia, and an update on the spring climbing season in the Himalaya. Afterwards, we talk gear as usual, including answer another listener question regarding how to properly wear your layers. Note: We had techncial issues midway through recording, so audio quality drops out on Dave's end a bit for the latter half of the episode. 

This week we talk hiking with Rick McCharles of BestHike.com. Rick shares with us his favorite trails from around the world, the gear he uses on his travels, and makes his pick for the top hiker in the world. But first, we share some interesting new expeditions starting later this year in our news segement and discuss Penn State University's decision to ban its outdoor club from actually going outdoors. As usual, we wrap things up with some gear picks for the week and answer a listener's question on the best sleeping bag for mountaineering and expeditions. 

In honor of National Park Week we share our favoirte "hidden gems' in the U.S. National Park System, but first we talk adventure news where we reveal an amazing new rowing expedition, talk about the North Pole Marathon, and Lance Armstrong's settlement with the U.S. goverment. As usual, we wrap things up with some new gear picks to round out the week.
