Spider-Man Sequel Title Revealed By Tom Holland - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:49:30

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday, June 25th, 2018) Mark Ellis, Perri Nemiroff and John Rocha discuss the following: 1) Box Office Report - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Takes Top Spot 2) Sony & Amy Pascal Developing Marvel Comic ‘Silk’, About Korean-American Superhero 3) David Ayer to Direct Gritty Crime Thriller ‘Tax Collector’ Before ‘Bright 2’ 4) ‘IT Chapter Two’ Casts Pivotal Role 5) Live Twitter Questions Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom easily took the #1 spot, slightly surpassing expectations to take in $150 million over the weekend. Although that’s well shy of the $208 million the previous movie made over its weekend three years ago, $150 million is still good for the fourth-highest opening of 2018, and the highest opening for a movie that wasn’t released by Disney. Incredibles 2 made $81.9 million for No 2, and is the largest second weekend of all time for an animated film, and one of the biggest second weekends of all-time for any movie. The film has now pulled in $350 million already and almost half-a-billion worldwide. Deadline reports that Sony and producer Amy Pascal are in early development on a movie adaptation of the Marvel comic Silk. The story is about a Korean-American superhero named Cindy Moon, who is a student in Peter Parker’s class who also is bitten by a radioactive spider around the same time as Peter. She gains abilities similar to his, though she is able to shoot webs out of her fingertips, possesses an eidetic memory, and has advanced Spider-Sense (known as Silk Sense) far stronger than Peter’s. Before he gets back to the dwarves, elves, and fairies of the Bright universe, Deadline reports that David Ayer is going to direct the indie crime thriller Tax Collector before he heads up Bright 2 for Netflix. He wrote the movie as well and plans to direct this summer in L.A. with Shia LaBeouf and Bobby Soto set to star. LaBeouf previously starred in Ayer’s war drama Fury. Deadline reports that Xavier Dolan (The Death, and Life of John F. Donovan) and Will Beinbrink (Queen of the South) will be joining IT: Chapter Two in the roles of Adrian Mellon and Tom Rogan, respectively.  MoviePass vs. AMC’s Subscription Service - Who Wins? - Mailbag | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:31:10

Sunday, June 24th: Perri Nemiroff and Mark Reilly answer your mailbag questions. 1. If you had to choose, which would you get, MoviePass or the new AMC subscription? 2. Get Out is Blumhouse’s highest grossing film domestically. Will Halloween or Glass change this & maybe hit the $200 million mark? 3. Do you think Marvel will decline after Avengers 4 in their next phase since this seems to be the peak of their success, or do you think they haven’t reached their peak yet? 4. Now that Incredibles 2 is the biggest opening for any animated film, what would you like to see in the third movie? 5. If you could have one fictional dog be your best buddy, who would it be?

Wonder Woman 2: Should Dead Movie Characters Just Stay Dead? - Mailbag | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:26:55

Saturday, June 23rd: Dennis Tzeng and Perri Nemiroff answer your mailbag questions. 1. With pictures of WW84 being released recently and showing Steve Trevor alive and well, people seemed to be upset. Saying that his death in the first WW is and was pointless and takes away from that emotional moment from that particular movie. Assuming that is the real Steve Trevor, how do you guys feel about characters who have died in previous films, like Steve Trevor making a return? 2. Next year, in the span of 6 months, Disney will release Dumbo (March 29), Aladdin (May 29) and The Lion King (July 19). With three films coming in such a short time frame, do you see it hurting their individual success after a while? 3. Why has fan service gotten such a bad stigma associated with it? If it’s done right, like the Darth Maul cameo is Solo, isn’t that great? 4. Have you ever teared up while watching a scene from a movie that is not necessarily sad or emotional, BUT you get tears anyway just because of the beauty and awesomeness of the scene/moment? 5. What is your favorite meme made from a movie? Mine is Ice Cube and Chris Tucker saying “Damn!” in the movie Friday.  Where Does Star Wars Go After Episode IX? - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:58:49

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Thursday, June 21st, 2018) Mark Ellis, Mark Reilly, Perri Nemiroff and John Rocha discuss the following: -Future ‘A Star Wars Story’ Spinoffs on Hold at Lucasfilm -Terminator 6’ Provides First Look at the Return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor -Welcome to Marwen’ Trailer Reveals Steve Carell in Robert Zemeckis’ Documentary Adaptation -New 'Ninja Turtles' Movie in the Works With 'Bad Words' Writer -Live Twitter/Calls Thanks to Collider’s own Steve Frosty Weintraub, sources for him reveal that Lucasfilm has decided to put their plans for more A Star Wars Story spinoff movies on hold, instead opting to focus their attention on Star Wars: Episode IX and what the next trilogy of Star Wars films will be after that film. Sources tell us that the previously rumored Obi-Wan movie was in active development, but those who were working on the film are no longer involved. It was recently reported that Logan filmmaker James Mangold was in early talks to write and direct the Boba Fett film, but that was before Solo’s release. Thanks to The Terminator Fans, we have our first look at Linda Hamilton as Sarah Conner from the upcoming Terminator 6, directed by Deadpool helmer Tim Miller, produced by series creator James Cameron. The movie will act as a sort of retcon, with it rumored to take place after Cameron’s T2 Judgement Day, effectively ignoring the events of Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genysis. It is slated for release on November 22, 2019. Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Oscar-winning Forrest Gump and Back to the Future filmmaker Robert Zemeckis’ new film Welcome to Marwen. Based on the documentary Marwencol by Jeff Malmberg, the film stars Steve Carell as a man who loses most of his memory after being beaten nearly to death. Unable to afford therapy, he begins building a 1/6-scale World War II-era Belgian town in his yard, populating it with dolls that represent himself, his friends, and even his attackers. Welcome to Marwen opens in theaters on November 21st. THR reports that Paramount is developing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, hiring Andrew Dodge, the writer of the Jason Bateman comedy Bad Words, to pen the script. Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce the feature via their Platinum Dunes banner. The company was behind A Quiet Place, however, there’s no word on whether this is a new incarnation or a third movie in the recently rebooted TMNT franchise.  Creed 2 Trailer Sets Up Adonis vs Drago - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:45:52

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday, June 20th, 2018) Mark Ellis, Jeff Sneider, Perri Nemiroff discuss the following: -Creed 2 Trailer Sets Up Adonis vs Drago -Disney Ups Fox Bid to $71.3 Billion -Animation Execs Jennifer Lee and Peter Docter to Split John Lasseter’s Duties at Disney, Pixar -Gotti Ad Attack Critics; Makes 40% of Opening Weekend Profits from MoviePass -Tau’ Trailer: Gary Oldman Voices a Smart House in the Netflix Sci-Fi Thriller -New Poster for Super-Shark Movie ‘The Meg’ Opens Wide to Confirm Release Date -Live Twitter Questions Fill out this Podcast One Survey to let them know which shows you're listening to here at Collider! Follow the link here: http://podcastone.com/mysurvey Disney announced yesterday that Jennifer Lee will take on the position of Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios while Pete Docter will be Chief Creative Officer of Pixar Animation Studios. Both will report to studio chairman Alan Horn. This comes on the heels of the report that said John Lasseter would leave by end of year, acting as a “consultant” in the meantime. Following the horrible critical reception of the new movie Gotti - and an even more dismal box office performance - the marketing behind the movie released a new ad getting to the alleged heart of the problem: the critics. The ad attacks the critics that gave Gotti a 0% (on RT), calling them trolls behind keyboards, while pointing to the rave “user” reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. But the “user ratings” seem to not match up. Netflix has released the first trailer for Tau; a new sci-fi thriller starring Oscar winner Gary Oldman (his voice) as the AI house that terrorizes its inhabitants in a horrifying game of cat and mouse. Maika Monroe (It Follows) stars as a young woman living in a futuristic city who gets kidnapped and injected by a mysterious stranger. She wakes up strapped to a chair in a strange house run by the artificial intelligence Tau, a program invented by Ed Skrein‘s psychotic inventor. He gives her a choice: do as the house says, or die. Here’s your regularly scheduled reminder that Warner Bros. megashark movie The Meg arrives this summer and to celebrate - the studio released the new poster. Which has never been more on the nose.  Will Ant-Man and the Wasp Be Successful Without an Infinity War Connection? - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:50:00

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Tuesday, June 19th, 2018) Mark Ellis, Mark Reilly and John Rocha discuss the following: -Will Ant-Man and the Wasp Be Successful Without a Connection to Infinity War? -Sam Mendes to Next Direct WWI Film ‘1917’ for Spielberg’s Amblin -Sammy Davis Jr. Biopic Project Sets Up At Paramount Pictures -Netflix Making Deals: Will Ferrell To Star In ‘Eurovision’ / Black Panther Co-writer Joe Robert Cole Will Make Directorial Debut with All Day and a Night -Dr. Dre Is Making a Movie About Marvin Gaye -Live Twitter Questions A brand new TV spot for Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man and the Wasp has landed online, teasing the lack of connection Ant-Man had for the previous Infinity War. With tickets also going on sale at the same time over at Fandango. With Perri Nemiroff doing an extensive set visit in which the producers only said the timeline seems to take place after Civil War. With that said, will the lack of Infinity War connections affect the box office for Ant-Man and the Wasp? Deadline reports that Oscar-winning Skyfall and American Beauty filmmaker Sam Mendes will direct and co-write the World War I film 1917 for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, with Universal Pictures distributing. The logline for 1917 is being kept under wraps, but Spielberg describes the project as “hugely daring” and “ambitious.” Deadline reports that the biopic about Sammy Davis, Jr. has been set up at Paramount Pictures with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, where he has his overall deal. The project is on the fast track and will soon look to hire a writer and a director to make the feature film about the dancer-singer-actor-musician to becoming a reality. THR reports that Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole will helm All Day and a Night, a drama for Netflix. Cole wrote the script for the project and is described as set in three parallel narratives that follows a young criminal after his arrival in prison as he looks back on the days preceding his arrest and the circumstances of his childhood to find clues to his way forward in life and his survival. Deadline also dropped more news about Netflix, revealing that Will Ferrell has signed on to star in Eurovision, a movie based on the wildly popular and long running international TV music competition The Eurovision Song Contest. Variety reports that Dr. Dre is making a movie about Marvin Gaye. The rapper is in the early stages of getting the project off the ground; securing the rights to use Gaye’s music. Multiple attempts were made to give Gaye the biopic treatment. The singer behind hits “What’s Going On,” “Sexual Healing,” and “Let’s Get It On” was one of Motown’s most successful artists before he was fatally shot in 1984 at age 44 by his father following a family dispute in their Los Angeles home.  Incredibles 2 Sets Box Office Record - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:49:30

Enter the MY RODE REEL short film competition - 1 Million Dollars in Prizes! https://goo.gl/Su6fzi On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday, June 18th, 2018) Mark Ellis, Perri Nemiroff, and John Rocha discuss the following: - Box Office Report: 'Incredibles 2' Shatters Expectations With Record $180 million - First Look Images From 'Aquaman' Reveal Orm, Black Manta and More! - 'Captain Marvel’ Enlists Marvel’s First Female Composer, Pinar Toprak - Apple Inc. in Talks with Cartoon Saloon for an Original Animated Feature Film - A24 and James Franco’s Stripper Movie ‘Zola’ Lands ‘Lemon’ Director Janicza Bravo - Live Twitter Questions Disney and Pixar’s long-awaited Incredibles 2 soared past expectations to a record-shattering $180 million at the weekend box office. It easily makes the superhero sequel the best animated debut all time, beating Finding Dory’s $135 launch in 2016. Incredibles 2 didn’t just break animation records, the film also secured the eighth-best domestic opening for any film, not adjusted for inflation, and landed the title of best debut for a PG-rated film, surpassing Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, which opened to $174.6 million in 2017. Warner Bros. began their Aquaman marketing push last week, kicking off with a number of first look images in EW including a cover story. Jason Momoa returns in the title role alongside King Orm (Patrick Wilson), Aquaman’s mentor Vulko (Willem Dafoe), Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), Meera (Amber Heard), and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Aquaman is set to perk up our winter doldrums on December 21st 2018. Marvel Studios announced the new composer for Captain Marvel and it’s composer Pinar Toprak. She is the first woman to write and score a movie for Marvel. Toprak is a bit of a fresh talent, working on a number of smaller scale thrillers and horror movies before breaking out in a big way last year as the composer for Syfy’s Superman prequel series Krypton and the immensely popular video game Fortnite. Bloomberg reports that, as part of Apple’s push into original programming, the company is making plans for an original animated feature film produced through Cartoon Saloon. Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon has been around for nearly 20 years, though their most famous feature titles have come in the last decade. The studio counts Oscar-nominated films The Secret of Kells (2009), Song of the Sea (2014), and The Breadwinner (2017) as their only three major feature releases, but that might be about to change thanks to a possible deal with Apple, Inc. According to our very own Jeff Sneider, up-and-coming filmmaker Janicza Bravo has signed on to direct Zola for A24. The project is based on David Kushner’s Rolling Stone article “Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted.  Can DC Have 2 Film Franchises - Theatrical and Streaming? - Mailbag | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:31:05

Sunday, June 17th: Perri Nemiroff and Mark Reilly answer your mailbag questions. 1. With the positive buzz the new Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting, do you think that if it is a hit, Marvel could use this as a proof of concept to allow other stories to be told in this style so we might receive story lines that may be too much for a live-action movie? 2. Jessica Jones is a great show on Netflix but Jessica’s hair looks amazing all the time. She’s a PI who constantly gets into fights and drinks alcohol almost every single day. Shouldn’t it be a bit messier when she’s running around punching? 3. If DC is really creating an “Elseworlds banner” of films do you think it would be a better idea for those films to become exclusives on the new DC streaming service? 4. Based on the trailer we saw Friday do you think Halloween is going to break IT’s opening weekend record? 5. What Avengers character do you think your cat would be?  Should Aquaman Move to a November Release Date? - Mailbag | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:23:03

Saturday, June 16th: Dennis Tzeng and Perri Nemiroff answer your mailbag questions. 1. With Comic Con right around the corner big things are about to be announced. What has ever been announced by a studio that ultimately did not come to fruition that you wished you could have seen? 2. From all the recent trailers and movies that have dropped showing us new and original stories such as Bad Times at the El Royale, Hotel Artemis, Peter Jackson presenting Mortal Engines, The Old Man and the Gun, A Star Is Born and many more. Is this the end of the era or remakes? Is it time for original stories to take center stage again? 3. Should Warner Bros. move up Aquaman to the first weekend of November where X-Men: Dark Phoenix was originally scheduled to open in order to avoid competition from Bumblebee, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mary Poppins Returns and other films in December? 4. I just watched Hereditary and thought it was brilliant. What are some of your favorite dinner scenes of all time? 5. I wanted to know why people are putting out spoiler videos weeks before the movies come out?
