Will Rampage Be The Rock's Biggest Movie? - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:47:37

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday, January 22nd, 2018) Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Jay Washigton, Kristian Harloff discuss the following: 1) Steven Spielberg Eyeing 'Indiana Jones 5?, 'West Side Story' for His Next Movies 2) PGA Award / SAG Award winners recap 3) Box Office Report 4) Disney's 'Sword in the Stone' Live-Action Remake Finds Director 5) Logan Lerman in Talks to Play a Young Dan Rather in 'Newsflash' 6) New extended trailer released for Rampage 7) Live Twitter Questions Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg has a number of possible projects but the filmmaker is first eyeing Disney's untitled Indiana Jones 5 with a plan to either precede or follow with another movie soon after. That other movie might just be Spielberg's long-time passion project, a new adaptation of West Side Story. The next Indy film has been in the works since 2015, when Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy confirmed plans were in motion for another sequel - which is currently dated for July 10, 2020. The question now, will Spielberg move forward first on Indy 5 or West Side Story? PGA AWARD / SAG AWARD RESULTS BOX OFFICE REPORT AGREE / DISAGREE THR reports that 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is in negotiations to helm The Sword in the Stone, Disney's live-action reimagining of the studio's 1963 animated fantasy. Bryan Cogman, a writer-producer on Game of Thrones, wrote the script for the project, which is being produced by The Jungle Book's Brigham Taylor. THR reports that Logan Lerman is in talks to play newscaster Dan Rather in the real-life drama entitled Newsflash; which will see Lerman star alongside Seth Rogen as Walter Cronkite. Stronger's David Gordon Green will direct the movie, in a film that will recount the events of Nov. 22, 1963, as television news stations raced to report the facts of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in Texas. New Line Cinema debuted a new Rampage spot during its Championship Sunday football game between the Vikings and the Eagles. The film is based on the 1986 video game, and stars Dwayne Johnson as Primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. Now, according to Deadline, there's new information on DiCaprio's character. Warner Bros. has released a new Tomb Raider trailer. Based on the best-selling series of video games, the story follows Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) as she travels to a fabled tomb on a mythical island to uncover the mystery behind her father's disappearance. The film opens on March 16th. The Justice League Blu-ray has just been announced and while the release will be packed full of special features, none of them will include the Snyder Cut. Despite evidence of several deleted scenes from Snyder's Justice League that leaked online, the upcoming Blu-ray release will only feature "bonus scenes." AGREE OR DISAGREE Yesterday, some reports about John Wick: Chapter 3 popped up online via The Hashtag Show, who reported that director Chad Stahelski was set to return for Chapter 3. Our Editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub did some digging and confirmed the news. Stahelski, who co-directed the first film before flying solo on the sequel, will return to the world of Wick for the third film. According to The Wrap, This Is Us actor Ron Cephas Jones has joined the cast of Shazam! as The Wizard, the mysterious figure who bestows Billy Batson with his mystical powers. In the most recent version of the Shazam story from DC, the Wizard is an ancient being and the last surviving member of a council of wizards who must find a champion to battle the evil Black Adam. In a new report from Reuters, Amazon looks to be shifting its funding away from smaller arthouse films in an effort to develop more big-budget commercial hits. This comes on the heels of Amazon Studios cancelling three of its comedy series, even as the studio has been awarded a number of Golden Globes, Emmys, and Oscars nominations and wins. On the heels of the announcement, THR reports that Fox has shifted their release schedule for their upcoming X-Men movies. The Directors Guild of America announced their nominations for the feature film category. The DGA is a pretty heavy precursor for the Oscar nominations, so the films and filmmakers recognized here will certainly get a boost in Oscar voting. Variety reports that Oscar-winner Natalie Portman is now in talks to take over the part. Ahead of the film's debut at the Sundance Film Festival, Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for the upcoming thriller Beirut. Written by Bourne Trilogy scribe Tony Gilroy and directed by The Machinist helmer Brad Anderson, the film takes place in 1982 and stars Jon Hamm as a U.S. diplomat and expert negotiator who is tasked by the CIA to negotiate for the life of a friend he left behind. Sources for the trade say the movie is still very early in development, as the film has no greenlight." But naming a writer is the closest the studio has come to moving forward on a standalone pic. The report also states Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige met with several potential candidates to write the film before choosing Schaeffer. No release date has been targeted at this time. Late last year, All the Money in the World made a mad scramble to do reshoots that would remove Kevin Spacey from the movie in order to replace him with Christopher Plummer. Now, according to USA Today, Mark Wahlberg was paid $1.5 million for his participation while co-star Michelle Williams only got an $80 per diem that added up to $1,000. OPENING THIS WEEK AGREE/DISAGREE John Williams has scored 8 out of the 10 Star Wars movies that were released in theatres and now it's officially official - he'll return to finish out the Skywalker Saga. Variety reports via Film Music Reporter that he is set to score J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX with Williams saying that he would very much like to complete the Saga he started, way back in 1977. It was just a year ago when we learned that Batman Begins and Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer was hired on to write the script for DC and Warner Bros.' Green Lantern Corps alongside writer Justin Rhodes, but not much else has been revealed since. Now Goyer is offering an update.
