Have you been applying for jobs and not getting any traction? Here's a powerful hack that will guarantee results. Last week, Alex Ortiz wrote a compelling article on LinkedIn entitled Why You Should Hire Me. Alex took a thoughtful approach to laying out his superpowers and closed with a clear call-to-action for those who were willing to help. Within a few hours, Alex received multiple messages in the comments section from Microsoft recruiters! ⚡️⚡️THATS POWERFUL! ⚡️⚡️ If you're not getting traction from the traditional model of applying and praying, try writing an article like Alex that illustrates your superpowers.  LinkedIn Local Seattle November 14th 2018 | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: 2:51

It was a great honor being invited by Ahmad Daher and the Envijo team to speak at Linkedin Local Seattle on November 14th - The event was centered on the topic of Creating Memorable Content. One of the stories I shared was of a time during my first entrepreneurial venture when I purchased a $7,500 watch. Was it a smart purchase? Absolutely NOT, but at the time I didn’t care because it made me feel significant. This watch was instantly a piece of my identity, a symbol that I had “arrived” and I wore it everywhere. Back then, my identity and sense of self worth were tied to my possessions. But..... After facing a significant business failure, I found myself broke and working at Best Buy for $12 an hour in my early 30's. Over a 3 year period of reinventing myself, I learned two of life's most important lessons... 1) My self worth and happiness have nothing to do with with my possessions after all. 2) Success will ensue by not caring about the money, it will ensure in the service of others. Here's a fun recap of my day leading up to and during the event. Big shout out to everyone that came out and supported the event!

 Office Politics - 3 Things to Avoid (2019) | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: 3:12

I spent some time catching up with Tim Salau (community builder extraordinaire) on the topic of Office Politics. Together we came up with 3 things you should avoid. Tip 1 - Don't be part of the rumor mill: it's so easy to casually let your guard down and jump into a hallway conversation. In this scenario, its best to either excuse yourself, or actively listen, but don't contribute. Tip 2 - Don't be the person speaking just to be heard: We all know the person that adds commentary in the boardroom just to hear themselves talk (ego central). At the end of the day, remember to never throw anyone else under the bus and contribute when you have something of value to add. Tip 3 Don't let office politics affect your drive: It's easy to get caught up in who's getting/not getting promoted, but at the end of the day you need to focus on what got you the job in the first place and find ways to differentiate yourself. The key takeaway? There's nothing wrong with working to advance your career as long as it's not at the expense of someone else.
