We get to hit up a lot of difference bits of media, and really round out some thoughts on the issues, How will people explain away Madonna's remarks, and what kind of hypocrisy will it expose? And what the fuck, Shia Labeouf? In plain terms: What the hell is cause? Then we talk about Boogie Nights and take a call from Scotty Millan, who was on the street level during the marches in New York. The show had great flow, a busy chat, and lots of new viewers. It's Inauguration Day Eve and I feel good and calm. We check in on the events down in D.C. and then just start thinking out loud. The first half hour of the show is filled with talk on something President Obama said at his last press conference concerning voting rights. At the bottom of the hour we have a fantastic debut guest spot by A.D. Bell. We get to learn about the driving force behind A.D.'s work on the Internet, and the outreach in the real world. We open up with a recommendation to watch a new friend of the show, A.D. Bell, from Youtube. He put out a fantastic response to Marc Lamont Hill's "Mediocre Negroes" comment this week. A.D. has a great channel and will be joining us for a live segment soon—possibly tomorrow. Other than that, some dude lit himself on fire and screamed Trump's name a couple of times, and just like that Donald Trump surrendered the Presidency to Bernie Sanders. Then onto the recent favorability polls, which look just as fucky as the polls leading up to Hillary Clinton's unthinkable defeat. At the 40-minute mark, we have a call from a great friend of mine, Josie. Josie is a Cuban-American who was very happy to join us to talk about life in Cuba, and thoughts about the recent repeal of Wet Foot/Dry Foot refugee policy. To reiterate, what struck me the most about the Chicago abduction was the apologetic media coverage and the waffling. Network hosts and guests alike deliver their initial heart-felt denunciations, and without skipping a beat, go right into a explaining why there isn’t any clear combination of political and/or racial motivations behind… the kidnapping and tormenting of a white, Autistic kid, while cursing the President-Elect…and White People. What this shows to me is that not only are people more ready than ever to get their hands dirty, but there is going to be plenty of cover fire from the fellow-travelers at the networks, and with the Josh Earnests of the world, for whatever may come next. If we have already crossed the kidnap-and-torture-autistic-people line without liberal media salvaging some integrity and cracking the whip, then what the hell is murder? It would denounced, of course; and then they’ll tell us all that race relations aren’t getting worse; they’ve just always been this bad. Until which time, they’ll continue to deliver homilies about glass ceilings, and police, and the 1%, and privilege—laying the groundwork for the tragic backstory behind all of their martyrs of the past, and martyrs to come.
