As the second project adopted by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation in May of 2016, Prometheus has often found itself in the spotlight. A testament to the growth of Prometheus in the enterprise can be seen by the fact that there is now a Prometheus Day at this year’s KubeCon and CloudNativeCon taking place in Seattle on November 8-9, 2016. Prometheus has immense scaling capabilities that make it well suited for a variety of monitoring tasks, though some critique of the platform still remains. “There are a few common reactions when people first see Prometheus. People wonder, ‘Why isn’t it a log processing system,’ and another other common one is, ‘it isn’t push, how can it possibly work.’” said Prometheus creator and infrastructure engineer Brian Brazil in today's episode of The New Stack Makers. Brazil goes on to highlight some core use cases in Prometheus, and how those working with the platform can get the most out of it in their own development pipeline.

As part of the OpenStack Technical Committee for the last four years in addition to her role as a Technical Product Manager at Cisco, Anne Gentle has experienced her fair share of these biases. That number has continued to decline over the years, with women now earning only 18% of today’s computer science degrees according to research by the National Center for Education Statistics.
