Summary: CrossPolitic (Christ over Politics) Podcast and Show mixes the taboo formula of faith, culture, and politics in order to bring the clarity of the gospel into muddle America. We are a community of Christians who desire to see the Lordship of Christ in every corner of our culture, reigning over every politician, and changing every individual for our good and His glory. Our hosts are made up of pastors, deacons, filmmakers, and more, and long to see our nation once again recognize Jesus as the redeemer of our fallen nation. Our hosts interview notable public figures (including presidential candidates Senator Ted Cruz and Dr. Ben Carson), write books, preach at churches, make films, and utilize every avenue possible to declare the gospel of our Lord to our broken world.

YouTube Video Let’s go through a case study based on an article written by Warren Shoulberg Senior Editor of Forbes. Article: Pier 1 is sinking These are the facts of the case: “Unfortunately, the disaster befalling the home furnishings retailer… [is] result of man-made decisions and circumstances that are increasingly making its long-term (maybe even short-term) prospects look pretty gloomy… Another rotten quarter – …increased losses and failure to meet even the most pessimistic of forecasts… the stock has lost half its value since the start of the year… Pier 1 has been awash in problems for a generation but the difference this time is that most retailers that sell home furnishings… are having pretty decent years, benefiting from demographics, a good housing market and an overall economy that play to the segment’s strengths… How did the retailer get lost at sea? Let us count the ways: 1. First off there is a physical store base that reflects a different era in retailing… vastly overstored for the current retail climate. Many of those locations are free-standing, often in mall adjacency areas, but as its no longer a destination store it has none of the advantages… 2. Starved for cash over the past decade, the stores have grown tired and rundown. Competitors like Target are spending billions to update their physical plants, Pier 1’s budget has significantly fewer zeroes. 3. Layouts are cluttered, not particularly intuitive to shop and merchandise classifications are oddly over-assorted in some areas and under represented in others. Furniture floor samples are sometimes broken, damaged or otherwise uninviting to shoppers. 4. While about a quarter of the company’s sales are now online, that drastically trails competitors that get half their sales through the web. a. The company is still paying for shutting down its e-commerce operation years ago during a particularly nasty cash crunch. 5. Earlier this year the CEO said the company realized, after doing some research, that it had misjudged its customer profile and was targeting a much more upscale shopper than the people in fact who bought at the store. It’s not clear what’s more troubling: not knowing your customer…or admitting it.”
We had the pleasure of having Dr. Michael Kruger, President and Samuel C. Patterson Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at Reformed Theological Seminary Charlotte, to discuss liberalism and its infiltration into the church. Below is an excerpt from his blog and you can find more on The 10 Commandments of Progressive Christianity by following this link: The abiding presence of liberal Christianity struck me the other day when I came across a daily “devotional” from Richard Rohr. Ironically, it was entitled, “Returning to Essentials.” And that devotional listed out 10 principles that Rohr thinks Christianity needs to embody (his list is actually drawn from Philip Gulley’s book, If the Church Were Christian). As I read over this list, I realized that it is essentially a confessional statement of liberalism (while, at the same time, pretending to deplore confessionals statements). It was, more or less, a “10 commandments” for progressive Christianity. And when you read these 10 commandments, they sound not so much like they were gathered on the mountain top but rather in the university classroom. It’s less about God revealing his desires, but more about man revealing his. It’s less Moses, more Oprah. But take note: each of these commandments is partially true. Indeed, that is what makes this list, and progressive Christianity as a whole, so challenging. It is a master class in half-truths which sound appealing on the surface until you dig down deeper and really explore their foundations and implications.
