He discusses his motivation for being involved in this important group, detailing the current laws in California, including Senate Bill SB-54, that often enable criminal illegal immigrants to get away with their crimes. The lives of criminal illegal aliens are often prioritized in the legal system over those of American citizens. They discuss AB-450, which prevents employers from cooperating with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) without potentially facing prosecution. They consider the reframing of the immigration process in America today, where becoming a legal immigrant seems to be a bad thing now. It used to be that people were proud to become Americans because it meant a better future. Many people escape other countries to flee communism, but then end up in a nearly communist California. Kress Cambers is a Republican running for Congress in Missouri’s 5th district. As a day job, he works a blue-collar position in an ammunition factory. He is a unique combination of a pro-labor conservative. They discuss some of Cambers’s platform and concerns for the government, and they cover his stand on typical labor ideology. Adam Carrington is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Hillsdale College on the podcast to talk about how the left has significantly impacted most university culture, though Hillsdale has kept its Christian, conservative principles. They also talk about how a large gap has formed between the left and right, where even Republicans have broken away so far from Conservatives. They discuss the 2nd Amendment and some gun laws in place currently. They also consider what is reasonable for gun regulation and who should be allowed to make these rules. The left has taken the issue and made it about fear-mongering and total control, going to extremes. They cover the 9th Circuit Court, which doesn’t seem to recognize a separation of judicial and legislative powers. Also on the podcast, Chuck and Mark talk about Mueller wanting to interview President Trump, the military being posted at the U.S.-Mexico border and how Trump might build the wall. About the guest: I discovered my love of politics when I realized that I love learning about how human beings can and should live together in political communities. From this interest, I found enjoyment in reading and considering the great works of Western civilization that discuss the meaning of justice, law, institutions and the ordering of human life by these ideas. The purpose of higher education is to cultivate human beings and citizens, which it does by cultivating in students the desire and capacity to contemplate both their humanity and their citizenship. My teaching method focuses on conversations about important texts of political thought, predominately within the history of political philosophy, Constitutional law, and American political thought. This focus allows students to encounter great thinkers and ideas directly and to interact with them and with one another. We seek to understand the authors as they understood themselves and then engage them in a respectful but analytical fashion. I love to teach, but I especially love teaching at Hillsdale, which I have done since 2014. The students here are thoughtful, hard-working, and possess a generosity of spirit that makes them a joy to interact with. Hillsdale’s politics degree offers the chance to converse with Aristotle, Locke, the American founders, Lincoln, and many more of the great political thinkers and statesmen of the past. A focus on these areas is rare in today’s higher education, yet it is vital, and it is what we strive for here. In my free time, I engage in scholarly research and writing, spend time with my wife, Emily, as well as friends and family, and watch copious amounts of sports—namely Baylor and Ohio State University college basketball and football, as well as my beloved Cincinnati Reds. Steven C. Barber is an American documentary filmmaker/motion picture combat photographer with three films on the Oscar shortlist in 2010, 2012 and 2016. The writer, author and conversationalist is the great nephew of Edith Wharton (Age of Innocence), the first female writer to win the Pulitzer Prize in the 1880s, in affluent New York. Barber has lived in Santa Monica, California for the past twenty+ years. On the podcast, he talks about how he got started in the industry, founding his film company Vanilla Fire. He shares a number of stories from his career, including the incredible results from his documentary film Return to Tarawa and others he’d made were aired. 36 US Marines were repatriated from WWII after the films were released for four years on the Military Channel for Discovery. Steven's closed a Fortune 500 luxury automotive client for his corporate partner and decided to cash in on the advertising world. He invested in his own documentary filmmaking production company. After meeting a local TV news anchor who was working in Product Integration to fund her Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology, she named their company Vanilla Fire. The media marketing publicity duo Barber/Henry created Vanilla Fire Productions and the first film, Unbeaten (2010 Oscar Shortlist), was a smashing success. The film was funded by Ten Billionaires, landing on the 2010 TIME magazine Top Ten Best Summer Olympic Documentaries list. Vanilla Fire produced a TV commercial awarded a Bronze CLIO Award in New York City in 2014. Vanilla Fire is in pre-production on the reality docuseries, The Doc Side. "Baby Boomer" Barber appeared most recently on a reality TV show the first week of January 2015 on VH1, after having met his current partner on the legendary show "Blind Date" in 2004.
