Preach It, Teach It - Sermon Audio

Paul learns how to survive in the darkest circumstances not only by the "grace power" of God, but by the support system of saints around him. When times get really tough, we need God and we also need each other.

Mark 9 allows us an eyewitness account of a mountain top experience Jesus has with some of his early followers. It’s known as the ‘transfiguration’ – which is a fancy name to communicate that Jesus reveals more of who He really is to them. There are some lessons here for us. Life is only lived in one direction – forward. God moments are just that, moments. Enjoy them, but keep following Jesus forward in life. Pray for them (see Ephesians 1:17). Pastor Francis Chan deals with the moral failure of a church leader in a wise, compassionate, godly fashion. Sin must be dealt with, but our focus in facing the issue of compromised morality in the church should be godly fear and self-examination rather than condemnation and arrogance.

Peter grows from a roughshod fisherman to a gentle and caring shepherd of God's people. When we serve as God's shepherds, we must be broken, humble and love unconditionally. Those who shepherd receive the pastor's crown when they reach heaven.

Wise Men followed the star. They jumped for joy, and they came bringing gifts. Mary and Joseph needed a miracle and it was provided by someone that God sent from 1,000 miles away. The Greek word for "royal" translates as "support of/to the people". It's a title of service and humility. Not how we typically think of royalty. This is then tied to the idea of priesthood. The priests care for the relationship between God and the people. The priest assures the people that God is with them. When Jesus was crucified, the curtain in the temple dividing the Holy of Holies from everything else, was ripped from top to bottom. God said, "That which divided us is gone. You don't have to live in a system trying to reach God on your own anymore." What will you do when you realize the unreachable God has reached you and has healed your sinful soul completely?
