Today's question comes from Joe in New Jersey. His question may possibly make you convulse and cringe to think about because after flying his brand new DJI Phantom 3 for five minutes, it crashed and was destroyed (I really feel for you, Joe). He's already gone out and bought another one, and has been practicing because he obviously doesn't want this to happen ever again. So his question is when he's flying his new P3 birds keep flying around the drone. Why is that and how can I ensure one of them won't fly into the drone, causing another crash? We really appreciate the boldness to come on and tell your story really quick, Joe. We have some great, practical drills and tips for you and all of our listeners to help you ensure this doesn't happen again. Stay tuned everyone, and thanks again for the question, Joe. Fly safe! Today's question comes from QuadGuy27 in Maryland. He has a great question, and one that is on the rather technical side (which we love). I'd like to find out what kind of interferences I may be dealing with for a flight plan. What kind of options do I have as far as radio spectrum analyzers? This is such an important question because so many pilots do not think of this until AFTER they experience interference. The problem there is it may be too late, so identifying these issues BEFORE flight is wise (to say the least). Thanks for your great question, QuadGuy27. We hope you and all our listeners find it very helpful. Fly safe, everyone! Get your questions answered: http://askdroneu.com/. Our question today comes from Chris in Tennessee. He's about to travel overseas and will be flying an Inspire 1 and Phantom 3 for a project. The two drones will need to be flying fairly close to each other. Will that be a problem? Also, the elevation where this project will be is about 5,000 ft above sea level. How is that elevation going to affect our batteries? What do we need to watch out for? These are some insightful questions, Chris, and we appreciate you thinking of them before you have issues out on the field. Take a listen and you'll know all you need to know. Thanks for the questions, Chris! Get your questions answered: http://askdroneu.com/. Our question today comes from Rashard, who is new to aerial videography. He was recently asked by a university in the Washington DC area to film and get photos of their campus with a drone. It sounds like Rashard is concerned that his drone will get comfiscated and is, therefore, asking what he needs to do to get permission to fly the UAV in the DC area without it getting taken away by the government? This is a great question since this is one of the more difficult areas to fly with such a small area, yet there being three major airports in the area (not to mention the White House). We go into all the things you need to be aware of, including things like FAA NOTAMs. We also go into steps you need to take to make sure you don't get into trouble. Whether your in DC or not, you will find this topic helpful so you know what you should (and shouldn't do) when it comes to permission, and we give you all kinds of resource to check out. Thanks for the question, Rashard! Get your questions answered: http://askdroneu.com/. Our interesting question today comes from Jerry in Atlanta. He takes this opportunity to ask his question in a rather interesting accent. One in fact we can often here around these parts in New Mexico. Jerry's question is regarding insurance. Specifically, he's heard Paul say numerous times that if you crash you will have a hard time getting insurance again. Yet, as Jerry points out, Paul has had a crash before and he's still insured. So Jerry is asking how did Paul get insured again. This is a great chance for us to dive deeper into this important insurance question and explain the ins and outs of trying to obtain insurance after a crash. Thanks for the question, Jerry. Our question today comes from Chris in Wyoming. He is asking who he needs to contact before flying a mission? Should he contact the FAA, adjacent land owners, or local authorities? Obviously there are many factors that will come into play when it comes to answering this. But we tackle them all and lay it all out for you and our listeners, Chris. Thanks for the question! Our question today comes from Jacob in California. I was just offered a big project by a winery here in my home state. They want me to film a promo video for them in 4K, consisting of six separate wineries. I fly a DJI Phantom 2 and GoPro Hero 4, and I usually shoot real estate videos. So what do you think I should charge for something like this? I'm not exactly sure what to do when it comes to my pricing. Congrats on the big contract, Jacob, and thanks for submitting your question to us. This is a common thing with folks getting into the drone business because you may not be used to larger contracts and, as a result, aren't sure how to price it. Well that's where we come in, so we're happy to help and here are our thoughts about what you should do. Did you know how easy it is to get your questions answered on our show? Our question today comes from Bennett in beautiful Maui. He has a small start-up commercial drone business, and he is asking about the Polar Pro 3 pack lenses. He would like to know if he uses these lenses does he have to do any balancing or extra modifications to his H33D Gimbal? He flies a Phantom 2 and has been reading some saying they were doing these changes, but he wasn't sure if it was really necessary. Great question, Bennett, and we most certainly have a lot of experience in this area. So we're glad to help you and our listeners out. Thanks so much for your continued support, Bennett! Fly safe. We're really examining the practical side of this whole thing, and doing it in a three part mini-series. This is part two of three, and today we're talking about something that a lot of people aren't sure about: how do I incorporate, or should I even incorporate? Today we actually start a short three part series on strategies for starting a drone business. This may or may not be something you've given a bunch of thought to. Regardless, we hope this will give you some helpful tips and things you can do right now to get it kicked into gear. Paul is actually out filming all over the place, so we've assembled the "bald-headed bureau" (as Paul likes to call us) to go through the business side of things. For this first part, we're talking about strategies you can implement to start getting some (or more) referrals from your existing clients. This is a very practical and helpful series where you can take bits and pieces and implement them tomorrow. So we're thrilled you've joined us for another "epic episode" of Ask Drone U. Today our question comes from Brian, and he is asking how he should dispose of a lipo battery? This may seem like a very elementary question to some of you out there, but did you know how dangerous a lipo battery can actually be? We're so used to these things with smaller batteries. However, when it comes to the larger lipos like we use for our drones, there is very much a right and wrong way to dispose of them. This could be the difference between you causing a fire or not, so stay tuned and take a quick listen to this episode of Ask Drone U. We're going to play the proactive part today and try and answer some of the questions we are sure will come in regarding the DJI Matrice 100. It is a rather expensive drone, so not too many people may be interested in it. But we go through initial thoughts about it on this episode. So if it's something you're interested in, or maybe it's even "news to you", then you should take a short break out of your day and get the run down here about this new drone. We recently did a workshop at the New Mexico Film Festival and the new 3DR Solo drone kept coming up. People were very curious about the capabilities of this drone and how it could specifically be used in a film production capacity. So today we're going to talk about all things Solo, especially in light of the fact that folks are finally starting to take delivery of this new, exciting drone. We're even going to give you a look at some raw footage from the drone. You can take a sneak peek here: bit.ly/1BOPZX4. We talk about the Solo gimbal and some inside information that you may find interesting and helpful. So stay tuned and join us on the latest episode of Ask Drone U.
