When the Italian duo Tumble (percussionist Andrea Belfi and electronic musician Attila Faravelli) came to Boston in March 2011, the plan was for them to do a special live set on Rare Frequency in addition to their concert at the Spectacle loft. Due to a scheduling error, however, the radio set never materialized; however, the Andrea and Attila kindly provided a live recording of their performance at Spectacle. This is that recording. Enjoy! On April 21, 2011, local sound artist and musician, Brendan Murray performed live on the program. Brendan was Rare Frequency’s first live guest back in 2005 (you can read my interview with him, if you’re feeling nostalgic). His work has changed markedly since he first played on the show. On January 13, 2011, Mem1, the duo of Laura (cello, electronics) and Mark Cetilia (synthesizer, electronics) performed live on Rare Frequency. Due to a few technical difficulties, this podcast features a lovely set recorded earlier in the day at the Mocoxon Studios in Providence, RI, which they provided specially for this podcast. On January 06, 2011, the always-intriguing and often surprising musician, Blevin Blectum, and singer Ric Royer dropped by the station. They performed a short duo session as Despair Despair Despair and then Blevin played an extended solo set. This podcast does not contain that recording. Instead, since there were some technical difficulties that night, this podcast features a live duo set and Blevin solo set, recorded the following evening at the Blue Triangle loft in Chinatown. Kouhei Matsunaga is an electronic musician from Osaka, Japan. A prolific artist, he is best-known for his collaborative projects, such as his sharply noisy techno duo NHK or his hip-hop production work with Sensational. His music runs the gamut from from noise to techno to abstract ambient to hip-hop. On August 12, Kouhei visited the studio and played an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink set that featured a broad range of material from current projects.
