Assistant athletics director for athletic performance William Hicks Jr. is responsible for the strength and conditioning program for Syracuse’s 21 intercollegiate athletics teams. He is the primary strength and conditioning coach for the Orange football program. Hicks and his staff develop programs to increase conditioning, strength, speed and agility for all sports teams. He joined the Syracuse staff as strength and conditioning coach in 2000 after working at his alma mater, North Carolina State, for 16 years. He was an assistant on the athletic improvement staff from 1986-90 before being promoted to coordinator of the program in 1994. He was named assistant athletic director for football operations in 1999. Hicks was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 1999. He was one of 11 finalists for the national honor. He earned his degree in recreation resources administration from North Carolina State in 1987. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a professional member of the American Football Coaches Association. Johnson was the first strength and conditioning coach in the history of the Baltimore Orioles and one of the first five in all of Major League Baseball. A 2003 inductee into the Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame, Johnson was named the 2002 National Strength Coach of the Year and is a six-time recipient of the Big East Conference Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year award. In 2010, Johnson was elected into the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame. Bringing nearly 23 years of experience in the strength and conditioning field, Scott Bennett is Radford University’s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to his appointment, Scott worked as the Senior Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the James Madison Dukes where Bennett was directly responsible for programming baseball, softball, volleyball, and men’s tennis. He was also in charge of mentoring student interns, graduate assistants, and volunteers. Although Scott’s career has taken him as far west as Wyoming, he is no stranger to the New River Valley—having worked at Virginia Tech under Associate Director of Athletics for Athletic Performance Dr. Mike Gentry. During his stay with the Hokies, Bennett was responsible for the development of off-season and in-season strength and conditioning programs for 13 varsity sports, including testing and evaluation, proper training protocol, nutrition, and lifting technique. Prior to his position at JMU, Bennett was the Head Strength Coach at three other institutions—the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Wyoming and Marshall University. In his career, Bennett has coached a multitude of collegiate athletes who have gone forward to find careers in the professional ranks (over 30 in the NFL), as well as conference champions, national champions, world record holders, and Olympians. Perhaps the honor standing out the most in his impressive list of accolades is his accreditation as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCCa) since 2006. At the time, there were only 62 certified at this level in the world. Today, there are roughly 100 practicing at the Master’s level. This honor paved the way for Bennett’s election to the CSCCa Board of Directors, a position he served for two terms. His involvement with the association allowed for him to be chosen as the first strength coach to be invited as an ex officio member of the NCAA Committee for Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports—a position he has held the last three years. Scott Sinclair came to Marshall after nine years as an associate director of strength and conditioning at UCF, where he worked with the football program along with baseball and track & field. With the football program, he was directly responsible for the speed and agility programs in addition to the program’s administrative duties. In May 2012, he was awarded the highest honor in his field when he was certified as a master strength and conditioning coach (MSCC) at the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association's national conference. The title of master strength and conditioning coach represents professionalism, knowledge, experience, expertise as well as longevity in the field. Prior to UCF, he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgia Tech from 2001-03. While with the Yellow Jackets, he worked as the assistant director of player development for the Yellow Jackets’ football squad. From 1999-2001, he worked in the Wake Forest strength and conditioning department. Nathan Moe was named South Dakota State's head strength and conditioning coach in August 2005 and served in that position until being promoted to assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning in May 2011. Moe works directly with the Jackrabbit football, volleyball and men’s basketball teams, and also oversees the design and implementation of the year-round strength and conditioning programs for all of the Jackrabbits 21 varsity sports. Moe came to South Dakota State after heading the strength and conditioning program at Eastern Illinois University for three years, where he oversaw the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all 22 of the Panthers varsity sports. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USA Weightlifting Certified Club Coach, Moe also maintains certifications in the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. In 2012, the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association honored Moe as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach. Mike Golden is the football strength coach at the University of Massachusetts. Golden has 17 years of collegiate coaching experience that includes stops at South Florida, East Carolina, South Carolina and UConn. Golden came to UMass after spending the last two years at South Florida with head coach Skip Holtz. There he supervised the football program's year-round weight training, speed, agility, and conditioning sessions. As the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance, he also oversaw the development of rehabilitation and performance enhancement programs for all of South Florida's sports. Prior to South Florida, Golden helped Holts build East Carolina into one of the top football programs in Conference USA. The Pirates won back-to-back conference championships in 2008 and 2009 and went to five consecutive bowl games from 2006-2010. While in Greenville, Golden worked with first round draft pick Chris Jonson who turned in the fastest 40-yard dash time in NFL Combine History. At ECU, Golden was often credited by Holtz for playing an integral role in turning around the program which had won just three games in 25 outings prior to 2005.
