Lets Talk Trains

Join all of our LTT Hosts, as we remember the Twelveth Season of the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation's "The Let's Talk Trains Show."  The Hosts will tell which programs stood out for each of them, this year, and what each host has planned for 2015. On this edition of the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation's Let's Talk Trains, we will discuss the role model trains play at Christmas. Model Trains have been a part of Christmas as long most of us can remember. From going to the local department store window to the President's park, Model trains can be found in lots of places. Model Railroading has been a popular hobby for many decades. This week, Kansas City Nathan, a model railroader himself, will be discussing the Model Railroading in the 21st Century. Long gone are the cracker-jack boxcars or half-hearted attempts to create quality locomotives and other rolling stock. Today, we have highly detailed models that are ready-to-run and highly detailed, to the point that rivet-counters are drooling! A newcomer to the hobby is 3D printing. This week, Chris talks about reaching his 1,400,000.0 rail-mile, why it took so long, and what he will be up to next.  We will have some guests on join us and Chris will relive his past trips with you. We will talk about the Chris' trips in the United States, Mexico and Canada, as well as tourist trains and along with rare-mileage trips. This week's show goes international as Bob and Elizabeth travel to the Surrey, British Columbia suburb of Cloverdale where the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society is headquartered and we are volunteers. The FVHRS owns and operates B.C. Electric Railway interurban car 1225 on a 4.5 mile stretch of former B.C. Electric trackage now operated by the Southern Railway of British Columbia (SRY). We will be talking with the board members and some volunteers about the restoration of 1225 and 1304, as well as current and future plans. Chris wil get Larry to tell us more from the old days of railroading  including derailments, going dead on the law, the use of trainorders and other long lost parts of railroading gone by. The current state of the NRHS and the future convention in Rutland will be discussed.

This week we attend the 2014 Go By Train event at the National Transportation Museum located just west of St. Louis. We will visit with museum leaders to find what the event is all about. We will also talk with vendors, historical societies, visit with members of the Choo Choo Bob show.

Time has come for the annual battle with the United States Congress for funds to operate and maintain Amtrak. This week, we will look at some of the current ideas that have been floated by members of Congress. We will break down the authorization bill. Your comments are welcome. Conductor Larry joins the Amzing Chris Guenzler this week and we will talk about his days on the old Southern Pacific. Chris will ask Larry  about his early days  at the Southern Pacific including  some rides on some unique motive power no longer used  today. We will move to his days with with the Union Pacific.Larry has plenty of unique stories from the past and a fun time to be working as a railroader. Join us as we relive his duties as a conductor.
