The Podcast For Our 2/20 Show Is Up - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:33

The podcast for the February 20th Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the bottom of this post. This week, we feature classic alternative tracks from artists including REM (http://remhq.com/index.php), Altered Images, Kate Bush (http://www.katebush.com/), Depeche Mode (http://www.depechemode.com/) (whose new single, "Wrong," will premiere on German TV on 2/21) and Aneka (http://www.ilike.com/artist/Aneka). (http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/146901.jpg) For Aneka, whose real name is Mary Sandeman (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2343577/), the song "Japanese Boy" became an international hit and reached the Top 20 on the US Dance charts in 1981. Sandeman released some other very good songs as Aneka, but they never matched the success of "Japanese Boy." The other problem seemed to be that the oriental persona of and image of Aneka kept the Scottish-born Sandeman from using her regular voice. After Aneka's star faded, Sandeman resumed her career as a singer/songwiter performing under her own name, which she is still doing today. Interestingly, Aneka has found a new generation of fans thanks to the inclusion of "Japanese Boy" in the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-Vice-City-Pc/dp/B00008JODN/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1235224406&sr=8-3) video game.

Among the other Classic Alternative artists featured this week are: Altered Images (http://www.amazon.com/Happy-Birthday-Best-Altered-Images/dp/B000S08YUU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233354769&sr=1-1), Haysi Fantaysee (http://www.amazon.com/Battle-Hymns-Children-Singing-Fantayzee/dp/B000M5KQ5M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233354739&sr=8-3), The Little Girls (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Little-Girls/51487394136), Nick Lowe (http://www.amazon.com/Nick-Lowe-His-Cowboy-Outfit/dp/B00000117P/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233355472&sr=1-14) and The Clash (http://www.amazon.com/Live-at-Shea-Stadium-Clash/dp/B001EB70UW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233355333&sr=1-2).

The Podcast For Our 1/16 Show Is Up - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:16

The podcast for this week's Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the bottom of this post. The second hour is dedicated to classic alternative dance music with tracks from several artists of the era including Alphaville (http://www.alphaville.de/), Amazulu (http://www.amazon.com/Amazulu/dp/B000003QJ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199385&sr=1-1), Strawberry Switchblade (http://www.strawberryswitchblade.net/), Blancmange (http://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Collection-Blancmange/dp/B000I6AFFG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199304&sr=1-1) and Depeche Mod (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Depeche-Mode-Vol-1/dp/B000IFQLLY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199348&sr=1-1)e. During the first hour, we showcased a lost classic from the 1980s: "Did You Have To Love Me Like You Did?" by The Coconuts (http://www.amazon.com/Going-Places-August-Darnell-1976-1983/dp/B0013UL4G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199487&sr=1-1) -- the ladies who performed with Kid Creole (http://www.amazon.com/Going-Places-August-Darnell-1976-1983/dp/B0013UL4G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199487&sr=1-1): Cheryl Poirier, Adriana Kaegi and Taryn Hagey. The "Kid" (August Darnell) produced an album for them. Fellow bandsman Coati Mundi also had one around the same time that was not produced by Mr. Creole (thanks to Coconut Adriana Kaegi (http://www.kidcreoleandmycoconuts.com) for the information). The Coconuts EP did not get the radio attention it probably deserved and subsequently, was not a hefty commercial success. The video for "Did You..." interestingly was played repeatedly on HBO's early-to-mid-80s show Video Jukebox: The first hour also included tracks from INXS (http://www.amazon.com/Swing-INXS/dp/B000002JKJ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199542&sr=1-7), The Clash (http://www.amazon.com/Live-at-Shea-Stadium-Clash/dp/B001EB70UW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199576&sr=1-2) and Icicle Works (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Icicle-Works/dp/B00000AORT/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232199604&sr=1-2).

The Podcast for Our 12/5 Show Is Up — Featuring a rare Solo Track From Caron Maso Murray (The Little Girls) - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:26

The podcast for this week's Revenge of the 80s Radio is up and available at the bottom of this post. The second hour features a rare track from Caron Maso Murray of The Little Girls (http://www.myspace.com/caronmurray). It's from her album CM3P-Rain (http://www.mtraks.com/artist/cm3p/), which was recorded between 1991 and 1994. CM3P-Rain (http://www.mtraks.com/artist/cm3p/) Features five tracks with Caron singing and on guitar and John Baker on bass with either Ralph Herrera (Suicidal Tendencies) or David Gunderloy on the drums. (http://images2.mtraks.com/2007/7/333578244208.jpg) Caron shows a harder edge with this creation while not leaving out the energy and power-pop sound that made The Little Girls successful. She breaks away just enough from the band's style to blossom on her own as a singer, yet still shows she remembers where she came from musically. To put it simply: this Little Girl can really rock. Caron shows her range from displaying a more punk-ish sound in "Fur Else" to sarcastic in her anti-gas-guzzler anthem "S.U.V." to sultry and passionate in the final cut, "Take You There." The CD is a much more serious offering than her work with The Little Girls, so listeners expecting her to sing about having fun in the middle of an earthquake might be taken aback for a moment or two before realizing how much of a great and diversely-talented performer Caron Maso Murry truly is. Here is the track list for CM3P: * Fur Else * Rain * Hold It Down * S.U.V. * Take You There (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/the_lgs_rocksmaller.jpg) Recently, a Little Girls Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Little-Girls/51487394136?ref=nf) has been created, users can see it here (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Little-Girls/51487394136?ref=nf). Also, please stop by our own Revenge of the 80s Facebook Page here (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Little-Girls/51487394136?ref=nf#/pages/Revenge-of-the-80s-Radio/31856411940). There will be some exciting things happening with The Little Girls soon. Revenge of the 80s will keep you up to date on this blogsite. Here's the 1983 video for "How to Pick Up Girls" by The Little Girls: During the show, we also played tracks from several legendary artists of the era including Kim Wilde, The Tom Tom Club, The Alarm and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

The Podcast for our 10/10 Show Is Up, With a Re-Broadcast of our Nikki Corvette Interview - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:14

Our podcast for the week of 10/10 is up, featuring a re-broadcast of our interview with Nikki Corvette (http://www.nikkicorvette.com/), former singer from Nikki and The Corvettes (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=nikki+corvette&x=0&y=0) and current frontwoman for Nikki Corvette and The Stingrays. The discussion leads off the second hour of the show. Nikki talks about how she got started in music after befriending some of the great Detroit bands of the late 70s and early 80s including Iggy and The Stooges and how tough it was to be an all-female group when some male counterparts would refuse to perform with them before the band became famous. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/l_ea2fb7712ca0508d03f34da8562b34af.jpg) [amazonify]B001CCHEDG:right[/amazonify]We also talk about the disaster that was the sped-up version of Nikki and The Corvettes' first album and how the normal speed re-release by Bomp! Records was more in line with what the band was all about. Her importance in music history and influence on all-female bands including the Go-Gos and The Donnas, who publicly acknowledged Nikki in the song "Gimmie My Radio," is evident up through today. After the success of Bomp! Records 2000 digitally remastered CD release of "Nikki and The Corvettes," (http://www.amazon.com/Nikki-Corvettes/dp/B00004SZGD/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1223645712&sr=8-2) interest in the band grew again both in the U.S. and Japan. [amazonify]B0010OH7I8[/amazonify] Nikki formed a new backup group, The Stingrays, and has been putting out music since. We feature some of those new tracks with some classic Nikki and The Corvettes songs during the interview. We also featured music from artists including The Clash, Altered Images, Icehouse and Wall of Voodoo.

During the program, Andy Taylor (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=andy+taylor&x=0&y=0)and I having a brief discussion on his new book: Wild Boy: My Life In Duran Duran (http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Boy-My-Life-Duran/dp/0446509302/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222446121&sr=8-1). [amazonify]0446509302:right[/amazonify] Our review can be found here (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/?p=281); our discussion leads off the second hour of the show. We also play a new track from Taylor called "Mad Dogs and Englishmen." In our short time on the phone together, we focused on Taylor's time in Duran Duran and the book. He talked candidly about working with his band mates as well as each of the times he left the group and his reasons. While we had limited time to talk, he seemed to be extremely happy with his life, career and the choices he made with little or no regrets. Taylor's book is as much about life in general as it is about his own career and reflections. In addition, we have music from several other 80s era artists including Captain Sensible, INXS, Eurythmics and Love & Rockets.
