While most know her as the financial whiz who breaks down the complex investment philosophies of former father-in-law Warren Buffett, she had a couple of smash hits with the Moby Dick record label in the mid-80s. I had the privilege of interviewing her this wee on a business radio show and it inspired me to re-air this conversation. I am still recovering from eye surgery and new shows will be coming soon.

The Podcast For Our 10/1 Show with Charlie Lagond Is Up - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:02

(http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Charlie-Head-Shot-225x300.jpg) The podcast edit for our 10/1/10 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the bottom of this post. Hour 2 features a conversation with talented Multi-Instrumentalist Charlie Lagond (http://www.charlielagond.com/), best known for his work with Kid Creole and the Coconuts (http://kidcreole.com/). Lagond is considered quite legendary in musicians' circles and has put together several memorable horn arrangements for Kid Creole and the Coconuts, as well as several other projects. He, with his wife Roseanne, run the standout Lagond Music School (http://www.lagondmusic.org/) in Westchester County, NY, where he shares his talents and skills with young musicians in the region. Our interview leads off the second hour of the show. The Lagond Music School is different from others in several ways, much of which we discuss in our conversation. Students are given several opportunities to perform live and learn from professional volunteers including the original Mama Coconut Adriana Kaegi (http://adrianakaegi.com/) (who turned me on to Lagond's school -- thank you, Adriana). Recently, one exceptional student was asked to perform alongside Lagond in Kaegi's "Ooh La La" video (Charlie is featured on the sax). The Lagond Music School is located in Elmsford, NY, not far from the New York State Thruway. Interesting urbane graffiti art leads up the stairs leading into a comfortable hallway and reception area with pictures and album covers featuring Lagond and the several acts e has worked with over the last few decades. One can find several young people warming up or studying while walking around the facility. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Charlie-and-Kid-1981-300x199.jpg) Students are treated to using state-of-the-art equipment and learn quickly how to perform with others in an ensemble setting, One of the many things that set Lagond's school apart from others is that his young musicians develop performance skills by playing in front of as many audiences as possible (most have one or two recitals along with regular lessons). Some of those he mentored have begun potentially successful careers in the music business and have played professionally. Charlie and Roseanne Lagond also make it an important point to never turn down an interested student, regardless of his or her financial situation; the school is an official non-profit organization. Information on volunteering or donations to the facility are available on the official Lagond Music School website (http://www.lagondmusic.org/). (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Charlie-Lagond-Friends-300x225.jpg) We also talk about Lagond's influences, his thoughts on music, breaking into the business 30 today as opposed to 30-35 years ago and some stories from working with Kid Creole and the Coconuts. We also play a new track from Andy Prieboy (http://andyprieboy.com/) and classic cuts by The Tom Tom Club, The Undertones, Haysi Fantayzee, General Public and more.
