At the center of this podcast is vintage Ray Charles, "The Genius". We play 6 tracks from the late 50's early 60's. First up, young Joey Alexander and his original compositions. After Ray, we hear some great '70s jazz-rock fusion from Stanley Clarke. The podcast concludes with new releases from two great pianists, George Cables and Craig Hartley.

Moments Notice and Stolen Moments kick off this post-Thanksgiving podcast. A few tracks later we feature Hartford area vocalists Dana Lauren, Orice Jenkins, Atla Dechamplain and Linda Ransom. Then some new releases from Eric Alexander and Joey Alexander, and a classic from Hank Mobley round out the set.

A wide variety of modern jazz including Herbie Hancock, Joey Alexander, Rob Garcia, Noah Preminger and more precedes a Thanksgiving set to celebrate my favorite holiday. Miguel Zenon, Jimmy Greene, Cyrus Chestnut are some of the artists that help us give thanks again this year.

We start this show by continuing last week's Joe Farrell feature. Then, reflecting on last week's surprising and disturbing election results, we play some protest songs, both vocal and instrumental. Gil Scott Heron, Les McCann/Eddie Harris, Charlie Haden are among those represented in this set. The show ends on a more optimistic note with McCoy Tyner, Fly with the Wind.

I rediscovered this Joe Farrell album and shared it with my podcast listeners. That led to playing some of the great saxophone masters, Henderson, Dexter and Rollins. From there, we explore some great new releases from modern jazz artists.

Autumn leaves have fallen, so this version from Steve Kuhn will be the last of the season to open the show. The cool sound of Chet Baker follows, before we explore new releases from the likes of Rob Garcia with Noah Preminger, newcomer Jason Hainsworth, Donnie McCaslin and Orrin Evans. An acoustic set from John McLaughlin, Gregory Porter and guitarist Joshua Breakstone complete the podcast.

John Coltrane is certainly one of the most influential and revered Jazz Masters. Broadcast on 'Trane's 90th birth anniversary, this podcast contains music from both of his great quartets. Other than a couple of tracks that cover Coltrane tunes (Pharoah Sanders, Kenny Garrett) this podcast is all Trane.

This podcast begins with tracks from cover albums from Billy Childs (Laura Nyro), Dave Stryker (70's R&B), and The Ed Polermo Big Band (Zappa). Also of note are new releases from guitarist Rale Macic and the sophomore release from young pianist Joey Alexander.

A birthday tribute to Elvin Jones, the great drummer, best known for his years with the trailbrazing John Coltrane Quartet. The show covers Elvin's playing as a leader, a sideman and his work with Trane.

For fans of the genre-bending Jazz Fusion, we have some interesting takes on this music. From young guitarists Rale Micic, Tom Guarna and Rez Abassi, to Fusion classic bands, Return To Forever, Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra. This show finishes with a new release from Dave Stryker with some tunes you might have listened to on your eight track.

This podcast features two giants of jazz music. We begin with a tribute to Toots Thielmans, legendary harmonica player, who passed away this week. At the end of this show we feature the music of Wayne Shorter celebrating a birthday this week. Wayne, one of the great jazz saxophonist and composer of our time. In between, you will hear from Zappa, Marsalis and Metheny and more.
