Bookended by two very different versions of Corea's Spain, are large ensembles, classic jazz, something new and even some bluegrass.

Most of this playlist features jazz artists that have been playing around the Hartford area, or will be in the coming weeks. Joey D hammers the Hammond while taking us to the ballgame. Dan Pugach's Nonet gives Brooklyn Blues a Nawlin's style, Casey takes us to worlds from Starwars. Curtis Bros and Ed Fast go latin style... and much more.

No central theme to this show, but as I peruse the selections I see some great tenor sax players; young and old. Rollins, Coleman, Preminger and Potter all represented here. Throw in some other great music from pianist Noah Baerman with his tribute to MLK, Jason Palmer's trumpet work with Mark Turner, and Metheny's Quartet and we have a helluva podcast.

A conversation with Noah Preminger on the release of three new recordings and projects. We feature his latest quartet's release of original material, Genuinity. Also a duet project with pianist Frank Carlburg, and a pre-release listen to the Chopin Project with Rob Garcia. We also put Noah through a blindfold test (way to easy). Following that is a Shorter set, and we end the podcast with something new from singer Kurt Elling.

Hartford guitarist Dan Liparini plays and talks with Ken about guitar and guitarists. Following the interview we hear music from Joe Henderson, Coltrane, Hal Galper, Kris and Jen Allen, and the Kevin Harris Project.

Before we get to the duets, we hear from one of my favorite JMac albums Demon's Dance. That is followed by two sax players with Connecticut roots. Nick Biello and Noah Preminger. Both have new recordings, Biello his premier, and Preminger with plenty. Then the duets: Preminger/Carlberg, Cohen/Hersch, Haden/Metheny. Salim Washington is back, and Sameer Gupta gives us Indian/Jazz fusion.

A set of early Blakey and Miles. They are bookended by Lovano covering Trane and a Duet featuring Metheny and Mehldau. Finally a gorgeous rendition of Leonard Cohen's Halleluja as covered by the Manual Valera Trio.

At the center of this podcast is music from Jerry Bergonzi who performs on Monday nights at the Lillypad along with George Garzone and the Fringe. First we here from great pianists Harold Mabern, McCoy Tyner and Zaccai Curtis. Hartford's saxophonist Jovan Alexander preceeds the Bergonzi set. The podcast concludes with Manuel Valera (piano) and his trio.
