Getting Better Acquainted show

Getting Better Acquainted

Summary: A weekly podcast of selected highlights from the SUT live show: A new night where people get up on stage and do some tragedy: part cabaret, part variety show. Come and let some great performers make you sad, make you think and make you smile. Sometimes they’ll be putting a new twist on what they do with brand new material tailored towards the theme. Expect music, comedy, true stories and more, all playing up to the tragic form but not taking it too seriously. The night will end, not with a whimper, not with a bang, but with a cathartic sing-a-long. Brought to you by Sony Radio Award nominated writer, musician and performer Dave Pickering, this monthly show will be recorded and released as a free weekly podcast at www.standuptragedy.co.uk and through iTunes.

 GBA 156 Jen #2 Pt 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:08:30

In GBA 156 pt 2 we get even better acquainted with my partner, Jen. We talk about how our 13 year relationship works, exploring the domestic compromises and tensions, arguments and conflicts, friendship and love, that come from living with someone and sharing a life together. We also cover the experience of living with (and living with someone who lives with) mental health issues. We push at the boundaries of openness and honesty in a conversation that is full of quiet revelations. Whether you know us well or know nothing about us, by the end of this conversation you will be intimately acquainted with who we are and how we fit together. This conversation picks up where Part 1 left off and I recommend listening to that episode first: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-156-jen-2-pt-1 This is the forth episode of a 3 week "Personal Season". On next wednesday (16th) the season will be rounded up with an episode collecting together true stories and personal songs that I've told and recorded over the last 2 years.  GBA 145 John | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:28:10

In GBA 145 we get even better acquainted with John Kingdom who is the father of my old friend Richard: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/sets/the-richard-episodes John talks about his interest in pianolas, engineering, being a project manager, living in the Soviet Union during the time that it was stopping being the Soviet Union, father and grandfather-hood and so much more. He also outlines his "compassionate conservative" views and presents his view of recent political history. It has quite a strange start and features a cameos from Richard, a pianola and a baby. This is the second conversation in the Kingdom season which started last week with Richard #2. Next week I will air conversations with Nick who is John's son and Richard's brother. John Plugs: Compassion and love GBA has another season coming up on Resonance FM. Episodes from the back catalogue reedited to fit the hour slot will be going out at 11am on Fridays (repeated at 2am on Tuesdays) from the 31st of January. http://resonancefm.com/ Resonance FM could do with your support.
