She attended Detroit Public Schools. She began taking dance classes at Loving Elementary School in 3rd grade. She started writing music (r&b, rap, and love songs) in elementary school and as a child she sang with the Ethereal Choir, and the B-Still Ensemble at People's Community Church when she was a teenager. At the age of 16 she was baptized and things began to turn around in her life. As a junior at Cass Tech, she started to face health challenges causing her to leave high school and attend home-school for a semester. It was during that time that God began to open her eyes and take her through a journey, beginning with conviction. Humbled by the experience, she began to speak at events encouraging those who are going through trials and tribulations. That year, she felt a call to ministry and preached her first sermon in North Carolina at her aunt Linda's Church. After taking her first piano class in college, she began writing gospel music at the age of 19. Her first gospel ballad is entitled "I Love You". She also began gospel rapping in 2005, and one of her earliest gospel raps, written in 2006 with her sister Angela Knight "Adjust It For Me" has been performed for many years for several audiences, both young and old. In March 2007, she launched her production company "Praise His Name Productions" and began to produce music and films independently from her home studio, working on her first album "I Would Give My All".

Kim attended Wayne State University and obtained her B.A. in Media Arts in May 2008 and an M.A. in Communications in December 2011.
