Summary: Ubay Ibn K’ab was from the Ansaar, specifically from the Khazraj tribe. He was an educated man, indeed one of the few who could read and write before the coming of Islam. He was also one of the 70 who attended the second Treaty of A’qabah. Therefore his conversion to Islam goes back to the earliest Madani period.
