The Importance of Civic Duty from the Seerah | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:16

The life of Prophet Muhammad(SAW) before he became a Prophet is often overlooked. We often think of “Iqra” as the beginning of everything. He was at the age of 40 years old when he received the first revelation from Allah. He then passed away at the age of 63, after 23 years of being a Prophet. Therefore for a huge part of his lifetime, he is not preaching any message, yet for us, we ignore that timeframe. We know that Allah had already planned to appoint him as the Prophet(S) but neither he nor anyone else knew that until the first revelation. Those 40 years were a necessary precursor for the next 23 years of his life. You would not have had the success of those 23 yrs if you hadn’t had those 40 years before. There were several incidents that demonstrate what our Prophet(SAW) was doing in those 40 years before the next 23. He already a very powerful community leader even before all of this happened.

7 Wisdoms Of Pain And Suffering | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:02

Sh. Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the 7 wisdoms of calamities, from the perspective of a Believer (Muslim). These are part of a larger list as authored by Al-Izz Ibn Abdus-Salam, a 13th century scholar of Islam. In part II of the khutbah, the people of Al-Ghouta (in Syria) are mentioned, their calamities, Islamic perspective and significance of this land as it is related to the end of times. Topics: * Why is there pain, why is there suffering? * What did Allah say to the angels when they asked such a question? * How do we approach evil and suffering? * If we don't have humility and faith, we may reject God due to arrogance. * By rejecting God due to the existence of evil, you introduce an infinite long list of complex questions you have no answers for. Seven (7) wisdoms of calamities and pain in this world: * Demonstrates lordship - you are not all-powerful, God is. * Appreciate that we are the servants of God, shows who is God * The religiosity, eman, taqwa, du'a and calling to God that comes as a result. * Brings out the best of character (akhlaq) in a person (of patience, generosity, etc) * Allah allows 3rd parties to demonstrate generosity, testing those who are not afflicted (lots of wealth, time, good health, etc) * Appreciating the blessings and ease that we have on a daily basis. We learn to be thankful to Allah. * Blessings of Allah on day of Judgment due to pain in this world. If you don't believe in day of judgment, you won't believe the wisdom of pain/evil in this world. Allah(SWT) mentions in the Qur’an, “There are those people who worship Allah with a condition. If life is good, he’s happy and will happy with Allah. But if life is not good and a Fitnah happens, then he switches his faith in Allah, he ends up losing this world and the next” The wisdom of trying to understand the problems of this world is something that every faith/tradition has struggled with. It is one of the fundamental problems of theology. The question of trying to understanding why there is pain, why is there suffering? Why is there bloodshed? Why is there evil in this world? This is a question that was asked of Allah even before he created us. When Allah(SWT) announced his creation of man in Surah Al-Baqarah, the angels asked: “Why would you do that” Even the angels asked the same question. Remember this is a question that was asked to better comprehend Allah’s wisdom, not to challenge Allah’s authority.

 Lives Of The Sahaba 66 - Salman Al-Farsi - Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:36

Salman Al-Farsi is one of those legendary Sahabas about whom we have very little information about because he grew up in Iran. Therefore we have no information about him from any source other than what he himself told of his own life later on, and what he narrated to the Sahaba. One thing that really makes Salman intriguing is the very ironic and profound change that happened, that he grew up in the pinnacle of Persian power, seeing the glory of what is called the ‘Sassanid Empire’. He was a citizen and a member of this empire at a time when no one could ever have predicted that the empire would be destroyed and wiped out. Not only did he live to see that his own Persian Empire eradicated, but he was also part of the army that fought against it. They even destroyed the Sassanids and then appointed Salman as the Governor of the capital of the Persian Empire.

The Fiqh of Umrah | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:00

Umrah is one of the most important and blessed acts that Muslims can do. It is known to be the ‘minor Hajj’. Therefore when we are going for Umrah, we should do with a Niyyah(Intention), that we are undertaking one of the greatest actions of worships a Muslim can do, because we are venerating the House that Allah has called His own, also found on the most blessed place in the entire world. Therefore Allah(SWT) says: “Whoever intends to do any type of evil in this land, Allah will give him the most severe punishment.” Our scholars say if Allah says wanting to do evil in Makkah will get you a sin, then wanting to do good will also get you much more reward.

 Should Muslims Visit Al-Aqsa? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:31

Should Western Muslims who have political access to Jerusalem visit Masjid al-Aqsa? This is a very emotionally charged issue that has legal, social, ethical and political ramifications. Some scholars have given fatwas that prohibit Muslims from visiting al-Aqsa, and while I fully understand and respect that opinion, I very firmly agree with the other group of scholars who allow visiting Masjid al-Aqsa. In fact, I view it as fard kifaayah and a part of our collective obligation to that Holy Land. In this talk, I summarize the main arguments that some scholars use to prohibit visiting al-Aqsa, and respond to them one by one.

Lives Of The Sahaba 64 - Bilal Ibn Rabah | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:32

Bilal Ibn Rabah was known to be one of the most famous Sahabas. He is one of those Sahabas that every single Muslims knows about. As we know, Bilal was originally thought to be from Abyssinia, however, he was born in Makkah. It is mentioned that Bilal’s mother was one of those ladies that came with the Army of The Elephant. Both of the parents of Bilal Ibn Rabah were slaves. He was also born as a slave in the Tribe of ‘Banu Jumah’. Therefore he grew up speaking Arabic absolutely fluently. Physically speaking, we have reports that Bilal was tall, lean and a fit person in general. Back in the time of Jahiliyyah, he used to be taunted by the people around him due to the tone of his skin.
