The Breakdown of 'Skyscraper', 'Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation', 'The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter' and Remembering Tab Hunter | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We are already halfway through July and the kids are getting deep into their holidays now. The Movie Breakdown has reviews for three big summer movies. We've got the latest grand Dwayne Johnson action picture in the very heavily Die Hard inspired, Skyscraper. We also have the latest animated adventure in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. As always we discuss a Netflix original, this time it is the Josh Brolin and Danny McBride starring father and son dramedy, The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter. As well, we discuss the news of two different production companies greenlighting a movie about the Thai cave rescue and debate if it is ethical or insensitive to push through making a movie before the events are even fully over. We also look at the career of Tab Hunter and discuss the history of how Hollywood handled the personal lives of their star. As always, we had a great time recording this show and we really hope you love it. If you did, then please help us out by telling others about it. Reminder that you can now subscribe either to The Movie Breakdown feed (a subscription link is at the top right hand of this site) or on iTunes. We apologize but there won't be any outline for The Movie Breakdown, due to the crazy mystery that the media player runs different times and so the timestamps have no value. If you know how to solve this problem then it would be greatly appreciated. Question of the Week: What is your favourite childhood memory of going to the theatre?  The Breakdown of 'Ant-Man and the Wasp', 'Sicario: Day of Soldado', 'The First Purge', 'Brain on Fire' and 'Tau' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The Movie Breakdown is a huge episode this week with five big movie reviews, but exciting things can also happen in small packages too. We have a review of the smallest superheroes in a big movie event with Ant-Man and the Wasp. Sequels are a big thing this week with a follow-up that I had never expected in the dark war against drug cartels thriller, Sicario: Day of Soldado. Then we also have the fourth movie in a horror-action series in The First Purge. But what about the Netflix offerings, you say? We've got movies with some big rising stars in Chloe Grace Moretz starring in the based on a true story drama, Brain on Fire. We also review a 'girl stuck in a robotic house with a psycho' thriller starring the great Maika Monroe in Tau. As an added bonus, this episode doesn't sound like garbage! We always have a great time doing this show, and we are always thankful you listen to us each week. If you enjoy the show then please help us out by spreading the word or giving us a five-star review on iTunes.  The Breakdown of the Best of 2018 So Far | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We did it! We have hit the halfway point of 2018, while in the news and politics things are still a disaster, it has been a great year for movies. The big studios have actually offered up a pretty good slate and there has been some really fantastic genre fare. We want to celebrate the best of 2018 cinema, and as we've done most years on our mid-year show, we'll be handing out some awards like 'Best Scene', 'Most Delightful Surprise' and 'Best Underrated Movie.' From there, we will then reveal our Top 5 Movie of the Year So Far, and then we will look ahead with our 3 Most Anticipated Movies. We really love this annual episode and think it is important, because often by the end of the year many great movies from the first half get forgotten, so this is their chance to be acknowledged and praised one more time. Doing this show really reminded me what a great time it has been going to the movie theatres. We do want to apologize that we had some serious technical issues and hopefully, the sound quality isn't too irritating. But as always, we hope you love the show and please help us out by spreading the word to other movie fans. The Breakdown of 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', 'Set It Up', 'Maktub', 'Sunday's Illness', and 'Lust Stories' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It is a mammoth episode of 'The Movie Breakdown' with five movie reviews including the hotly anticipated big summer creature feature, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Oh yes, the dinosaurs will roam. Speaking of things once thought extinct, is that a romantic comedy that I see? Yes, it is. We review the Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Lucy Liu, and Taye Diggs starring Set It Up. We also do some globetrotting with three international films in Israal's Maktub, India's Lust Stories, and Spain's Sunday's Illness. It is another show discussing a variety of different movies. As always if you enjoyed the show, please help us out by spreading the word or giving us a five star review on iTunes.  The Breakdown of 'Incredibles 2', 'Hereditary', 'Hotel Artemis', 'Alex Strangelove', and 'Ali's Wedding' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I hope dads everywhere had a great Father's Day and were able to spend some time with their families. Speaking of families, several of the movies we review this week have a major focus on familial bonds. We kick it off with a super heroic family in one of most hotly anticipated animated sequels in Incredibles 2. We also have something much darker, in a supernatural horror where Toni Collette plays a mother trying to protect her family while also uncovering some dark secrets in Hereditary. Then we have two bank robbing brothers who after a robbery goes bad end up in a hospital for criminals called Hotel Artemis. Love is in the air as well with two romantic comedies from Netflix in Alex Strangelove and Ali's Wedding. We had a great time recording this show and hope it is just as fun for you. And if it is, then please spread the word to other big movie fans, so we can help grow this show. Reminder that you can now subscribe either to The Movie Breakdown feed (a subscription link is at the top right hand of this site) or on iTunes.  The Breakdown of 'Ocean's Eight', 'Adrift', 'Ibiza', and 'Sara's Notebook' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This week The Movie Breakdown has reviews of four new 2018 movies that all happen to star women in the lead roles. The biggest of the bunch is the comedy heist film with a huge and talented female cast headlined by Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett in Ocean's Eight. We also have the very talented Shailene Woodley in the battle with nature mixed with a love story in Adrift. As well, there is Gillian Jacobs in a romantic comedy called Ibiza. Finally, we have a Spanish film about a women who goes to the Congo to find her missing sister who was last seen with a group of violent warlords and child soldiers in Sara's Notebook. After the movie reviews, we once again explore the toxic side of movie fandom and why some fans feel they need to harass actresses and what can studios and filmmakers do to prevent this awfulness. As always, if you love the show then please spread the word to other movie lovers. Reminder that you can now subscribe either to The Movie Breakdown feed (a subscription link is at the top right hand of this site) or on iTunes.  The Breakdown of the Forgotbusters: 'Anaconda', 'Problem Child', 'Salt', and 'Wild Hogs' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

A pop culture writer who I am a huge fan of his work, Nathan Rabin, had a column called 'Forgotbusters' on the now defunct movie site The Dissolve (I could write a week's worth of articles on the heartbreak and impact of losing that incredible place). Rabin described Forgotbusters as movies that were one of the top 25 grossing pictures of their respective year but have since receded culturally. This could either mean that the film is no longer talked about in anyway or that the feelings are now much more negative rather than nostalgic. It is a pretty subjective distinction and Rabin was taken to task for some of his picks like Space Jam or Avatar. I find it to be such an intriguing idea looking at films that were once pop culture landmarks but have not endured and sometimes not endured as well as movies that made far less in the box office that same year. This week we are doing the Breakdown of the Forgotbusters and will be reviewing four movies that were once hot but have since chilled. We've got a giant creature feature that also was one of Jennifer Lopez's first big starring roles in 1997's Anaconda. Then we go to 1990 where movies about precocious kids were all the rage, as we discuss the John Ritter starring Problem Child. Remember when every studio wanted their own Bourne Identity? One of those years would be 2010 and, how about one starring Angelina Jolie in the action thriller, Salt. Finally, it isn't Forgotbusters without a John Travolta flick and he brings along some friends in Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy in Wild Hogs. After the movie reviews, we look at the box office disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story and look at why this was the first Star Wars movie to flop at the box office. Then we discuss if this failure means that Disney needs to change their plans for Star Wars. As always, if you love the show then please pass on the word to other movie fans. Question of the Week: What two stars who have never headlined in a movie together, would you love to see team up?  The Breakdown of 'Solo: A Star Wars Story', 'Cargo', 'Catching Feelings' and 'Forgive Us Our Debts' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It is the end of a long weekend in the United States and that means a big movie was just released. This time we go an even longer time ago in a galaxy far, far away with the origin story of a popular iconic movie character in Solo: A Star Wars Story. We review that big movie as well as three Netflix originals. We talk about the Martin Freeman starring Australian zombie movie called Cargo. We also have a South African romantic comedy in Catching Feelings. We finish our global tour with an Italian drama called Forgive Us Our Debts. From there, both Scott and I admit we are old and that maybe not all movies are targeted towards us. So, we discuss if a film critic should reviews movies that are not designed for their demographic or personal tastes. As always, we had a great time recording the show and we hope you loved it, and if you did then please spread the word to other movie fans. The Breakdown of 'Deadpool 2', 'Book Club', 'The Kissing Booth', 'Sometimes' and Remembering Margot Kidder | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It is Victoria Day here in Canada and that means everyone gets a day off work if they know someone named Victoria or someone who has the letter 'a' in their name. Of course, the best thing to do on a holiday Monday is listen to movie reviews, so as always, The Movie Breakdown has your holiday needs covered. This week we have one of the biggest movies of the summer and a hotly anticipated sequel to one of the highest grossing R/18A rated movies of all-time in Deadpool 2. We also have another comedic movie geared towards adults but one with far less dismembering and no Ryan Reynolds in the still star-studded Book Club. We also have two Netflix Originals this week in the teenage romantic comedy that stars Joey King (and has a supporting role from 1980s teenage comedy queen Molly Ringwald) in The Kissing Booth and an Indian drama about HIV with a 12 Angry Men vibe in Sometimes. After all the movie reviews, we pay tribute to a major star from many 1980s childhoods and the gold standard for all cinematic Lois Lanes in Margot Kidder. If you love the show then please help us out by spreading the word to other movie fans or going over to iTunes to give us a five star review.  The Breakdown of 'Life of the Party', 'Anon', 'Manhunt', and 'The Rachel Divide' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day and made sure to show some love to the wonderful woman that brought you into this world. But it is now Monday, so that means time for movie discussion on The Movie Breakdown. We've got four movie reviews for you this week, including the big new theatrical release in the latest Melissa McCarthy comedy, Life of the Party. From there we review three new Netflix Originals with the big one being Andrew Niccol's latest sci-fi thriller in Anon. John Woo is also back with his latest action film in Manhunt. We also have a documentary on the controversial Rachel Dolezal in The Rachel Divide. As well, we discuss if filmmakers and studios have a responsibility for positive and progressive depictions of gender and race in their movies. As always we hope you love the show and if you do, please help us out by spreading the word to other movie fans or giving us a five star review on iTunes. Question of the Week: Next week is Deadpool 2 and Ryan Reynolds has gone on the record that the franchise has to be R-Rated (18A in Canada).  The Breakdown of 'The Week Of', 'Kodachrome', and 'Candy Jar' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Avengers: Infinity War has scared away the competition from the theatres, so The Movie Breakdown thought it was a perfect week to stay home and review three Netflix originals. The big one is the latest Adam Sandler comedy about a working class dad trying to find ways to afford his daughter's wedding in The Week Of. Then we have a star-studded road trip picture with big names Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen and Ed Harris in Kodachrome. We also have a high school romantic comedy about two teens that are forced to work together on their debate team in Candy Jar. From there, we look at the Academy expelling Roman Polanski from membership and discuss if the Academy has a moral obligation and if we should allow the evil deeds of the artist to affect their art.  The Breakdown of Milos Forman: 'Amadeus', 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'The People vs. Larry Flynt', 'Man on the Moon', and 'Hair' | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It is a special episode this week that we are calling The Breakdown of Milos Forman where we celebrate the renowned director by reviewing five of his biggest movies. It doesn't get much bigger than winning a Best Picture and a Best Director, which he did with two movies. We will review the Best Picture winner that got him established in Hollywood with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and then his other Best Picture winner is the ambitious and epic fictionalized account of the life of Mozart in Amadeus. We also review two more biopics in the story of Hustler founder who finds himself the face of free speech in The People vs. Larry Flynt and then the story about the life of Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon. Then it is time to cap off the show with a little song and dance in the rock musical Hair. As always if you enjoy the show then please spread the word to other movie lovers. NOTE: Apologies for some technical issues on the show as Skype was out for vengeance this weekend.
