47: Amy Dresner: Her Life and Book - “My Fair Junkie” - Losing Everything to Drugs, Alcohol and Sex Addiction and Writing A Best-Selling Memoir to Inspire the World | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:31:55

NOTE: This episode contains explicit language. [Adapted from Amy's book bio] Growing up in Beverly Hills, Amy Dresner had it all: a top-notch private school education, the most expensive summer camps, and even a weekly clothing allowance. But at 24, she started dabbling in meth in San Francisco and unleashed a fiendish addiction monster. Soon, if you could snort it, smoke it, or have sex with, she did. Smart and charming, with Daddy's money to fall back on, she sort of managed to keep it all together. But on Christmas Eve 2011 all of that changed when, high on Oxycontin, she stupidly "brandished" a bread knife on her husband and was promptly arrested for "felony domestic violence with a deadly weapon." Within months, she found herself in the psych ward--and then penniless, divorced, and looking at 240 hours of court-ordered community service. For two years, assigned to a Hollywood Boulevard "chain gang," she swept up syringes (and worse) as she bounced from rehabs to halfway houses, all while struggling with sobriety, sex addiction, and starting over in her forties.

45: Kerry Andre: The Normalization of Alcohol in Rural America and Fighting for Her Recovery Despite Cultural Norms | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:42:09

Kerry Andre grew up in the rural farming town of Williston, North Dakota.  With alcoholism and her father’s opiate use running rampant in her family, Kerry’s exposure to addiction started young.  After a series of traumatic events, she turned to alcohol to numb her pain and found herself in a downward spiral that lasted over a decade.  3 kids, numerous broken relationships and 4 DUI’s later - Kerry finally got the help she needed to start on her recovery journey, and she just so happened to find it with Lionrock!  She is now living a life in sobriety that she is proud of, and has the love and support of an incredible partner.

44: Noa Shaw: Alcohol and Drugs Stole His Happiness, and SoulCycle Brought It Back One Class at a Time | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:07

NOTE: This episode contains explicit language. Born in 1963 in the Bronx, Noa moved with his family multiple times before finally settling in Connecticut at age 14.  By this time, he had already been drinking for four years. And he had already attended 9 different schools, many of which he was kicked out of.  Despite the unwavering love of his family, Noa never felt comfortable in his own skin — he never fit in with the other kids and always felt inadequate when he compared himself to everyone around him.  After multiple fights, blackouts, car crashes, violence, dead friends, suicide attempts, family tears, failed marriages, empty bank accounts, failed stints in rehab, and brushes with the law, Noa finally found himself asking for help and wanting to change.  While life has not been a straight path from the bottom, Noa has worked for decades on creating and sustaining a beautiful and rewarding life filled with love, career satisfaction and overall contentment.  Noa learned early in his sobriety that perhaps one of his greatest innate gifts was his ability to connect with and inspire others to improve their lives. The ability to help other people is the single greatest asset he has had in helping himself stay sober, stay content and stay in the light.  Noa — now a cult favorite instructor at SoulCycle — will help you find what he describes as “Mental Wealth.”
