The Bible tells us to love. So why is it a problem with that we do? This week, we commemorate Pride Month by telling a love story that is all too familiar: the tale of a child rejected and abandoned by their family, for simply loving the “wrong” person. Despite recent advances in the LGBTQ+ community, many of us who fall in love with individuals of the same sex continue to be shunned, viewed with disgust, and forced to question our worth.

Linda takes us inside her journey of being adopted into an all-white family as a baby, her encounters with her birth parents as a young adult, and the ultimate search for her own identity. With both biological and racial components elevating Linda’s desire to find herself.

With a mother who regrettably suffered from a long-term drug issue, Morgan gives us insight into her personal life - and shares with us a story only the daughter of such a destructive habit could tell.

Patti is a happy wife and mother of three. Patti is also dying. Strapped with a rare case of End Stage Hidradenitis Suppurativa, she has been chronically ill for most of her life. After surviving three bouts of sepsis, Patti’s doctors told her the next will very likely be the last. Patti runs a country-wide support group with those suffering from the rare disease, and hopes to dedicate what could be her final days left to bring it the awareness it deserves.

It is profoundly uncommon for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder to have a sibling with ASD, too. In Kristen Williams’ case, all four of her children fall somewhere on the spectrum. Kristen joins ‘For the Hayters’ to explain how her family defies the odds, and what it’s meant for everyone involved. She shares her story in an effort to make others aware of the difficulties both she, her husband, and especially her children face each day.

A ‘BYOC’ Series SPECIAL: Star defensive tackle, Eric LeGrand, suffered an injury during a Rutgers University football game in October of 2010. The injury he sustained left him permanently paralyzed from the neck down, ending his career – and life as he knew it. The Tamba Bay Buccaneers signed him to a “symbolic contract” two years later. Since then, he has won countless awards, and speaks at engagements across the country in an effort to motivate anyone and everyone around him.

A victim of the incredibly rare ‘Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum,’ Derek was once able to do most normal, everyday activities. Until he wasn’t. As a then 14-year-old, complaints of a headache soon meant Derek would never speak, eat, or perform standard daily functions again. Derek’s mother joins us, detailing the regression of her son’s condition, and how she, as his dedicated caretaker, has managed to get through each new day rebuilding her beloved son.

Jill Harpin: A once-avid hiker - she’d climbed Mount Washington ten times - Jill Harpin was rendered permanently paralyzed after a freak fall off a hotel balcony in 2016. She now joins ‘For the Hayters’ to discuss her newfound confidence after her accident, and how it’s helped her navigate today’s dating world: “I used to only swipe right on guys who were over six feet tall…but, uh, my standards have lowered a bit,” jokes Jill.
