Is There a Current Cincinnati Reds Player on Track for the Hall of Fame? Also Mock Trade Monday Begins With a Bang | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1802

Joey Votto seems to be on track for the Hall of Fame...but not sure any other current Cincinnati Reds could join him. Jeff breaks down why and also looks at some mock trades and what the returns could be for some key players. He has the resume and the numbers, as well as his tenure at the top of the first base mountain, but are there any other current Cincinnati Reds who could join Joey Votto in Cooperstown? The qualifications for a Hall of Famer aren't expressly outlined, but we can look at some average numbers and see where a player could make it to the Hall of Fame. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be any other Reds that meet those qualifications, currently, though there are some promising rookies like Jonathan India and Tyler Stephenson. Then there's Mock Trade Monday, the new segment where Jeff will field your trade ideas on every Monday episode. Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle, and Sonny Gray have all been rumored to be in discussion by Nick Krall, and they are featured prominently in this first round of mock trades, but there's one name that is included that hasn't been rumored: Jesse Winker. We look at the trades, the returns, and the plausibility and then give each mock trade a mock grade. And one final thought to close out the pod has to do with what damage MLB is doing to its own reputation, regardless of a delayed season. *SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonreds Also follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on Instagram Call or text (513) 549-0159 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Jeff talks about what the bigger picture is to the loss of Carson Fulmer and where Ronnie Dawson fits in the Reds outfield hierarchy.  The Players Union and the League are Far Apart on Many Issues, Revier Sanmartin's Value to the Cincinnati Reds, and an Offseason Transaction Deadline | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1690

Bruce Meyer and Tony Clark have made it clear the position of the Players Union after Rob Manfred announced the owners' decision to institute a lockout. Reiver Sanmartin has been pitching well in the Dominican Winter League and may be a dark horse candidate for a starting rotation spot. Adding a transaction deadline (or a multi-faceted one) could add intrigue to the MLB offseason. After Rob Manfred said multiple times that the players' proposal was too extreme, Bruce Meyer retorted that the owners may have been even more radical. In fact, the League has put a line in the sand on multiple issues, already, stifling any negotiations. The two sides seem quite far apart on a potential CBA. There could be two spots in the Cincinnati Reds starting rotation up for grabs this Spring and one candidate is already setting himself apart in the Dominican Winter Leagues. Reiver Sanmartin has allowed just five earned runs over 26 innings, this winter, and looks to bring his arsenal of deception to the Reds starting rotation. The offseason in Major League Baseball is unlike any other professional sport...because it is so slow. Perhaps adding deadlines could liven up the news cycle, cause a sense of urgency for teams to get things done, and ultimately drum up interest in the sport at a time when it seems to be dwindling.  Trading Mike Moustakas is the Best Idea the Cincinnati Reds Could Have this Offseason | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1663

Mike Moustakas is the second-highest paid players on the Cincinnati Reds roster and offloading his contract may single-handedly accomplish the mission to realign payroll. Why trading hims means only good things for the Reds and how they could accomplish it. Also, a thought on the Hall of Fame announcements that have been made and why the Hall of Fame is another thing that MLB has gotten wrong. Mike Moustakas had a rough year in 2021 and trading him right now would be at the lowest point in his value. However, trading him would also make trading one of Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, or Tyler Mahle superfluous and that would be an amazing development in the Cincinnati Reds offseason plans. The trade may sound difficult, due to his value, but the Milwaukee Brewers pulled off a similar trade with Jackie Bradley Jr and actually received return value for him. Not to mention the fact that the Toronto Blue Jays were also in on the negotiations before the Boston Red Sox finalized the deal with the Brew Crew. The Reds could contact the Colorado Rockies about their desire to upgrade third base, the Washington Nationals about backing up Carter Kieboom, or the Arizona Diamondbacks about shoring up their lineup. If the Reds can sell another team on the bounce back of Moose, then they will reap the benefits of not having to trade a marquee talent from their rotation. Also, why it is important the MLB celebrates its great players while their still living. Rob Manfred Offers Little Hope in His MLB Lockout Press Conference | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1663

Rob Manfred addressed the media regarding the MLB Lockout, it's reasoning, and why the owners decided to implement it. What he had to say not only betrayed the rift between the Players' Union and the Owners, but also showed how frustrating the process was for both sides. Some good ideas were mentioned, but the symptoms are, again, getting too much attention while the root cause goes untreated. The owners staunchly defend revenue sharing and see it as a mechanism for competitive balance, despite its obvious impact to the contrary. Players are trying to weaken the revenue sharing in an effort to increase competitive urgency, but this is a non-starter in a vast field of many ideas the owners see as non-starters. How the two sides can come together still remains to be seen and a possible solution seems far off. So with all that negativity in abundance, lets shift back to some Cincinnati Reds-centered talk as we look at why the most improved Reds player in 2022 will be Nick Senzel. We also begin to set up a Cincinnati Reds Mount Rushmore. That way we end the podcast on a positive note! The Lockout Begins and Appreciating Frank Robinson as the Best Cincinnati Reds Player Ever | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1735

The MLB Lockout officially began at 12:01 am EST on Wednesday and the owners and players could not be further apart in the negotiations. Transparency has to be something achieved between the two sides if the 2022 MLB season is to begin on time. Also, Frank Robinson put together the best Cincinnati Reds career of all time.  Cincinnati Reds Trade Rumors and a Non-Eventful Non-Tender Deadline | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1800

The non-tender deadline came and went and the only player the Cincinnati Reds non-tendered, Brandon Bailey, they turned around and signed to a minor league deal. There are also rumors that persist that Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, or Tyler Mahle may be headed somewhere else and why Michael Lorenzen wasn't returning to Cincinnati. Also, with the MLB lockout forthcoming, we get you set to understand why this is about to happen. The Cincinnati Reds non-tendered Brandon Bailey and no one else on Tuesday before the deadline. They then turned around and signed Bailey to a minor-league deal with invite to Spring Training. The reason the Reds stayed put is because they're keeping the status quo. Nothing too drastic happened at the non-tender deadline because nothing too drastic is going to happen for the entirety of this offseason. Speaking of drastic, there are rumors the Texas Rangers have inquired about Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, and Tyler Mahle for a possible trade. Don't fret, it's only an inquiry, which always seems to befuddle some fans. Chances are still good the Cincinnati Reds hold on to their top pitchers as they lost one f their top bullpen arms from a year ago. Michael Lorenzen looks to leap from the bullpen to the starting rotation, for the Los Angeles Angels. He wasn't returning to the Reds to simply pitch out of the bullpen, though, so the loss is not much of a surprise. And finally, MLB owners and players remain far apart in their negotiations to renew the collective bargaining agreement that is set to expire at 11:59 PM eastern on December 1st. With that brings the high likelihood of a lockout. The players will fight hard in this negotiation due to their most recent acquiescence to multiple big ticket items for the owners. They've hired Bruce Meyer to do just that. This lockout could last to February, though I doubt either side wants to push back the season. Non-Tender Candidates for the Cincinnati Reds and Why They Might be Kept | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1697

Today is the Non-tender Deadline for MLB as the lockout looms on December 2nd and the Cincinnati Reds have a few players that some people see as candidates to be non-tendered. We talk about Amir Garrett, Tyler Naquin, Jeff Hoffman, and Aristides Aquino and why the Reds may actually keep them instead of moving on from them. We also look at Tyler Naquin, why he seems like a roster lock, and why Andrew McCutcheon could be an interesting platoon candidate with him. As Michael Lorenzen signed with the Los Angeles Angels, and many other free agency happenings went on, the Cincinnati Reds continued their status quo of little to no movement. This seems to allude to how they will approach today's non-tender deadline. with some players due to make raises, and some of those players making seemingly easy non-tender targets, we look at why none of them may be moved on from a the Reds have established a position of immutability. Let's pretend for a moment that the Reds do make a move and look at what Andrew McCutcheon could bring to the table as a Red. He would greatly improve Cincinnati's lineup against left-handed pitchers. Imagining also brings to light the reality of status quo, though, so lets also try to squint and see the positive side of Aristides Aquino being given the platoon job with Naquin and how he can improve.  Who on the Cincinnati Reds Could Bring Some Underrated Trade Value and a Thought About Clint Frazier | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1586

The Cincinnati Reds are telling us they won't spend money in free agency and are "realigning payroll" instead of prioritizing winning. So here is a way they can maximize the value of the players they have for competitiveness in a year or two: the Alfredo Simon Rule. Jeff explains what that is, why it's important, and who the Reds could use as trade cups. He also tells you why the Reds should look into Clint Frazier. Seven years ago the Reds traded an overachieving pitcher in Alfredo Simon for the Detroit Tigers No.5 prospect, Eugenio Suarez. If the Reds want to be any kind of interesting, they will get to work on some more trades like that this offseason, and they have two players who fit the bill. Kyle Farmer and Tyler Naquin provided some nice moments for the Reds in 2021 and performed well above their career norms. These two guys could be possible trade chips for the Reds to take advantage of in negotiations. Clint Frazier is no longer a Yankee and has every fanbase aflutter with the idea of adding him to their team. The Reds should absolutely be in on this guy, despite his injury-prone past. He could fit right in to their cheap philosophy while still having a relatively high ceiling, should things work out for him. The Cincinnati Reds Need to Emphasize the Alfredo Simon Rule | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1711

The Cincinnati Reds are "realigning payroll" this offseason, but they've also said they're not tanking. So what is it? Jeff tries to expound on what the Reds aren't saying and gives an idea as to how the Reds can improve the team. Nick Krall got all of Reds Country in a tizzy when he said the focus would be "realigning payroll" this offseason. But ever since then he has balked at questions about rebuilding. So if it isn't teardown, but it isn't the Reds going all in on the playoffs, what is it? How can the Reds still garner your interest while actively staying in the mediocre middle? The Cincinnati Reds are relying on a bet that ownership has made for 15 years that has only worked twice (kind of). They need to understand that Jonathan India, Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, and company are nice young players that need talent around them to succeed, an idea they did not employ with Joey Votto and Jay Bruce. How can they go about acquiring talent while self-imposing restrictions of payroll? The Alfredo Simon rule. The Alfredo Simon rule looks at a player who had a good year and ascertains whether it will ever happen again. IF the answer is no, see if you can trade him for an Eugenio Suarez-like player. We talk about why that trade worked for the Reds and set up tomorrow's podcast where we look at who the Reds could do this with. The Cincinnati Reds Add Hunter Greene and Four Others to the 40-Man Roster, feat. Doug Gray | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1614

The Cincinnati Reds added Hunter Greene, Alexis Diaz, Daniel Duarte, James Marinan, and Allan Cerda to the 40-man roster on Friday. The move protects them from the Rule 5 Draft and keeps them a Red. Jeff is joined by Doug Gray to break down why each player was added to the 40-man roster for the Reds and what it means for a couple of guys not added. Doug Gray is very knowledgeable about all things Reds minor leagues and he breaks down why each player was added to the 40-man roster for the Reds. Hunter Greene was rather obvious, but the other four guys have varying degrees of upside that would make them very attractive for other teams to take a chance on in the Rule 5 draft. Two guys who weren't added to the 40-man roster were Alfredo Rodriguez and Joel Kuhnel. Jeff and Doug talk about why not them and could they be on the move whenever the Rule 5 Draft gets underway? And will the Reds participate in the Rule 5 draft, now that their roster is set at the full 40? This means good things for the prospects of Hunter Greene being on the Reds Opening Day roster. We look at how that might look in a few months.
