Photog Adventures has turned 1! September 8th marks the day we went live on YouTube and on the podcast back on September 8th 2016! We talk about the amazing dark skies at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon and the challenges of staying up nearly all night for Milky Way Photography only to need to try and get sleep in the heat of the day! Taking a break from our travels on the road to Bandon, Oregon, we have the awesome opportunity to have a call with Thomas Heaton and talk about his success in YouTube, pick his brain for what he does right whether intentional or not and got to hear about some of his awesome Landscape Photography adventures. Learn why Thomas doesn't do Astrophotography, how he isn't interested in the analytics and strategies of YouTube but just likes to focus on sharing the story of getting out there with your camera. He brings us along to Zion National Park, talks a future trip to Antartica and explains how his perspective has changed as he has done Landscape Photography.

When a scheduled podcast is requested by the guest to be pushed back a couple weeks, we decide to go on a last-minute impromptu adventure and bring our podcast equipment along with us! We travel up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Guardsman Pass and then hike to a potentially perfect spot for the sunrise. We spend Memorial Day Weekend out at the Grand Staircase - Escalante area and experience crazy dust, beautiful clear night skies, terribly annoying washboard dirt roads, actually visible but partial Aurora and get lost walking in a straight path. All with our buddy and guide Jeff Pedersen. Astrophotography is usually a challenge, but out at Escalante there are photogenic setting on top of photogenic setting making the only difficulty waiting until the next nightfall so you can start capturing images again. What a beautiful place for Milky Way Photography. Sorry for the delay, the audio quality and the shortened Gear Time.
