How to Teach Your Children (and Yourself) WHY Christianity is True | with Shanda Fulbright | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:13

Your children may know WHAT they believe about the Christian faith but do they know WHY? What happens when they leave the safe comforts of home and someone challenges their beliefs--will they know how to respond? Or maybe your child is already questioning the validity of Christianity and the Bible and you don't even know it yet. Don't panic! Former public-school teacher and certified apologist Shanda Fulbright is here to help! She says skepticism about God, Jesus, and the Bible usually begins during the middle school years, which is why we need to start teaching kids as early as possible about how God's Word and God's world connect. She sits down with Frank to explain the layered process parents should use to create a strong foundation for their child's faith and also shares some of the challenges she faced as a parent and public-school teacher in California. Shanda also points out that many parents feel ill-equipped to teach their children the objective truth behind the Christian worldview because they were never taught it themselves. That's where her online course (co-authored with Frank), Let's Get Real: Examining the Evidence for God, saves the day! This course was specially designed for 6-8th graders and will take students on a challenging (but FUN!) journey as they dig in and become confident that Christianity is true and not just stories--that Christianity isn’t just an opinion or preference, but a belief based on FACTS.  How Should We Read the Book of Genesis? | with Dr. John Walton | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:06

Just when you thought there was nothing new to be said about the Book of Genesis, Dr. John Walton shows up! Dr. Walton is an Old Testament scholar and Professor at Wheaton College and has written many books on the Old Testament and its ancient Near Eastern background, including a commentary on Genesis, and his popular Lost World series. In this midweek podcast episode, he sits down with Frank to discuss why being faithful to the context lies at the heart of our understanding of what the Bible communicates to us about God as our creator. In other words, we need to stop viewing it through a modern lens and placing our cultural expectations on it--demanding it to answer questions it was never intended to address. Some of the ideas and questions they discuss include: * What is a cultural river and why is it important? * What kind of story is Genesis 1? * What did the ancient Israelites think about the material world? * The Egyptian creation story vs. the Bible * What does it really mean to read the Bible literally? * What's up with the Nephilim? * Was there a global or localized flood?   To view the entire VIDEO PODCAST, be sure to join our CrossExamined private community.  Will You Stand UNSHAKEN? | with Alisa Childers and Natasha Crain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:25

Who or what are we worshiping? Are we bowing to the one true God, or to the god of the self? We've all witnessed the Western world change quite dramatically, especially during the past few years. It goes from faith "deconstruction" to woke ideology to radical gender theory. Anti-Christian ideas haven't just crept into our homes. They've kicked the door down and pulled a chair up to the table! Christians feel immense pressure to bow down to these false idols as we watch the culture (and many of our loved ones) being shaken up all around us. Once you decide to take a stand for Christ and His authority, how do you hold your ground and live boldly in a world that is downright hostile to the idea of objective and Biblical truth? That's the BIG question Alisa Childers, Natasha Crain, and Frank will be tackling in the first-ever UNSHAKEN Conference which is set to take place in Dayton, Ohio on 1/28 along with three other locations later this year! In this podcast episode, Alisa and Natasha sit down with Frank to give us a glimpse into some of the content they'll be sharing at the conference, which is set to be unlike any other apologetics conference you've ever seen before!  C.S. Lewis LIVE! (almost) | with Max McLean | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:01

C.S. Lewis famously said, "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." And someone who can quote C.S. Lewis better than most people is the winsome and award-winning actor Max McLean who joins Frank on our midweek podcast today! Max is the founder and artistic director of the Fellowship for Performing Arts, a New York City-based non-profit production company that produces live theater and film from a Christian worldview to engage a diverse audience. In addition to his narration of The Listener's Bible, Max is most well-known for his many stage adaptions of books and essays by C.S. Lewis, including the feature-length film, The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C.S. Lewis, and his current on-stage production of Further Up and Further In, which may be coming to a city near you soon! In this episode, Max sits down with Frank to discuss his inspiration for developing this play, which is a dazzling, state-of-the-art, multimedia experience that explores what made C.S. Lewis such an effective apologist/evangelist to skeptics. Further Up and Further In picks up where The Most Reluctant Convert ends and is sure to impress believers and non-believers alike! At one point during the podcast, you'll hear Max go into character as he performs the first scene of the play! To view the entire VIDEO PODCAST, be sure to join our CrossExamined private community.  When Your Opponent Cheats, What Should You Do? | with Dr. John Ferrer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:19

Is it ever OK for a Christian to lie or cheat? What if you know your opponent is being dishonest? What examples can we find in Scripture that demonstrate our ethical duties based on God's will? To help us answer those questions is the newest member of the Cross Examined team, Dr. John Ferrer (yes, dedicated husband of Hillary Morgan Ferrer from Mama Bear Apologetics)! John received his Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics from Southern Evangelical Seminary and sits down with Frank to discuss a question we received from an international listener who is currently struggling with the imbalance of political power between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria. They also have a very interesting discussion on the topics of football, spiritual warfare, and what we can learn from the Damar Hamlin incident and the public display of prayer.  Why Earth and the Universe are Designed to the Core | with Dr. Hugh Ross | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:32

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson once declared, “The universe is a deadly place. At every opportunity, it is trying to kill us.” Tyson is not alone in his dark, doomsday perspective. Many have sought to warn of the weapons the universe might use to wipe out humanity. Similar to the tone of Tyson is the media minefield we now refer to as "climate change"--but is it a political issue or a real threat to our planet? In this fascinating midweek podcast episode, Frank is joined by the legendary Hugh Ross. Their discussion takes listeners on a journey from deep inside the Earth's core all the way to the moons of Mars with multiple stops in between! Dr. Hugh Ross is the founder and president of Reasons to Believe and shares many of the insights from his latest books, Designed to the Core, and Weathering Climate Change, to help us see that every tiny detail in the universe is part of God's grand design. They examine the fine-tuning of the universe and how even the Milky Way galaxy (our home away from home) is special and unique. You'll also hear a balanced and factual (dare we say...refreshing?) response from Dr. Ross on the subject of climate change, and what we can do (if anything) to help steward the resources of God's amazing creation.  Why Does God Hide? | with Michael Jones and Eric Hernandez | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:02

Why does God hide? If God loves us and truly desires that none should perish, why doesn't He make His existence more obvious? Wouldn't a loving God want us all to be saved? Divine hiddenness is a problem that puzzles many believers and non-believers, and in this midweek podcast episode, Christian philosophers + apologists Michael Jones and Eric Hernandez tackle it head-on!  Is God a Vindictive Bully? | with Paul Copan | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:28

Is God a vindictive bully? Is the God of the Old Testament different than the God of the New Testament? Critics outside the church often accuse the Old Testament God of genocide, racism, ethnic cleansing, and violence. But a rising tide of critics within the church claim that Moses and other "primitive," violence-prone prophets were mistaken about God's commands and character. Both sets of critics dismiss this allegedly harsh, flawed, "textual" Old Testament God in favor of the kind, compassionate, "actual" God revealed by Jesus. But are they right to do so? There's no better person on the planet to discuss this issue than our good friend and noted apologist, Dr. Paul Copan! Following his popular book, Is God a Moral Monster?, his new book, Is God a Vindictive Bully?: Portrayals of God in the Old and New Testaments, contains brand new content and takes on some of the most difficult Old Testament challenges and places them in their larger historical and theological contexts to help us dispute these emerging claims that are creating a destructive gap between the Testaments. On today's podcast episode, Frank and Paul discuss the following questions: Who are these critics "from without and from within" the Church? Did Jesus really repudiate the laws of Moses? What's the deal with imprecatory psalms like Psalm 137 and "dashing babies against the rocks"?! What can the Old Testament law still teach us today? What is incrementalism, and how does God use it? Does "utter destruction" really mean what we think it does?\   To view the entire VIDEO PODCAST, be sure to join our CrossExamined private community.  The Apologetic and Intellectual Adventures of Douglas Groothuis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:43

People are hungry for hope. They want to understand our human condition--its origin, nature, purpose, and destiny. The Christian faith offers hope for individuals and the entire universe, grounded in absolute truth. But how can we effectively communicate to others that Christianity is true, especially the "deep thinkers" who believe becoming a Christian will lead to their intellectual doom? Dr. Douglas Groothuis is a gifted communicator and Professor of Philosophy at Denver Seminary. He has the unique ability to challenge the highest-level thinkers while remaining accessible to those who are not as academically inclined. The author of 16 books has written, spoken, and preached on a wide range of topics--and that range seems to keep growing daily! In this midweek episode, Dr. Groothuis sits down with Frank to discuss the additions he made recently to his most classic and voluminous work, Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case for Biblical Faith, and introduces us to not one but TWO other books he penned this year--Fire in the Streets, and The Knowledge of God in the World and the Word: An Introduction to Classical Apologetics. You'll quickly learn that Dr. Groothuis is a walking + talking Rolodex of Christian apologetics and can speak knowledgeably on any given topic from lament, propitiation, the ontological argument, slavery, CRT, affirmative action, and everything in between!  Stealing Standards from God | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:26

It's that time of year again! You're sitting around with family at the Christmas dinner table, and Uncle Joe insists on picking apart your Christian faith. What's the best way to respond? Ignore him while you play with your mashed potatoes? Or do you try to refute his objections? You know you need to give the reason for the hope that you have, but how can you engage with his statements without starting a family feud? In this week's episode of I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, Frank explains that every objection to the Christian faith assumes a standard beyond the person who is making the objection and gives examples of simple questions you can ask Uncle Joe (and others like him!) to place a seed of doubt in his assertion that something is wrong with the Christian worldview. Frank addresses some of the most common objections to Christianity, including: God does immoral things in the Old Testament There's too much evil in the world Christians are hypocrites and do evil things Christianity is too exclusive God doesn't show himself enough The Bible doesn't recognize LGBTQ+ rights there's no evidence for God PLUS--Frank shares testimonies from three people whose lives have been transformed by the Holy Spirit through the work we do here at Cross Examined! As you listen to these amazing stories, we hope you will prayerfully consider donating to the ministry so we can effectively reach even more people with the truth in 2023. Thanks to a group of incredibly generous donors, you have until 12/31 to DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT. For every dollar you donate, another donor will MATCH your dollar up to $150,000.  The Trauma to Triumph Story of Victor Marx | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:17

Is it really possible for a person to break the cycle of anger, abuse, addiction, divorce, and unforgiveness? Victor Marx is here to tell us that with the hope of Jesus Christ, you can! At the tender age of 5, Victor was molested and left in a commercial cooler to die. He endured a childhood marked with physical and sexual abuse, multiple stepfathers, 14 schools, and 17 different houses. Later in life, he used drugs and alcohol to help numb the pain and, after his time in the Marines, was diagnosed with mental illness and PTSD. To most people, it seemed like Victor would never find a way to escape his life of pain and trauma--but God had other plans! Today, Victor is a husband of 30 years, a father to five, and has used his military background to put his boots to the ground in places like Syria, Iraq, and Cambodia to physically rescue over 45,000 women and children from sex trafficking and other evil. His ministry, All Things Possible, exists to identify, interrupt and restore those affected by trauma all over the world. In this one-of-a-kind episode, he sits down with Frank to share his personal testimony and explains how only God can bring help to the hopeless and transform the most hardened of hearts. He also shares advice on how to protect your family from sex trafficking in your own neighborhood. Victor's story is an amazing account of God's character, power, and presence in our world and evidence that the Holy Spirit is still at work today. Jesus raised the dead, healed the blind, and did so many miracles that all the books of the world could not contain them. But what is the greatest miracle we can all witness in our culture today?  Examining Historical Evidence for the Resurrection | with Mike Licona | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:14

Do Christians have good historical reasons to put our faith in the resurrection of Jesus? Can we really know what happened 2,000 years ago? No one doubts the works of Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar or the history written about them, so what makes the historicity of Jesus so special? And what do non-Christian scholars say about the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus? If anyone knows the answers to these questions, it's New Testament scholar Dr. Michael Licona! His seminal work, The Resurrection of Jesus: A New Historiographical Approach, has been praised by many as the most thorough and useful tool to those looking for an in-depth study of the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. Mike currently serves as Associate Professor in Theology at Houston Christian University and president of Risen Jesus, Inc. In this special midweek episode of 'I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist,' he sits down with Frank to discuss the following topics as they relate to Jesus and the resurrection: problems with postmodernist history the uncertainty of historical knowledge what is a historical fact? the tools and rules of historical research how our worldview affects how we study history objections to the resurrection of Jesus the intersecting philosophies of science, history, and theology This is a fascinating and in-depth discussion, and you'll definitely learn something new!  Is it Wrong to Doubt? | with Travis Dickinson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:29

Is it wrong to have doubts about your Christian faith? Many people assume that doubt is the opposite of faith and that wandering among the hard questions of faith will lead us further away from God. True believers, the assumption goes, never waver in their confidence in the fundamental truths of Christianity. Professor and philosopher Travis Dickinson disagrees! Instead, he says, our doubts and hard questions about the Christian faith are actually an important way we can express our commitment and love to God. Doubt isn’t our destination, but as Christians, it's in our job description to ask questions as we approach God with intellectual curiosity in order to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. In this week's podcast episode, Travis sits down with Frank to share insights from his new book, Wandering Toward God: Finding Faith Amid Doubts and Big Questions. Some of the big questions they address include: Do we have to be 100% certain that Christianity is true in order to be a Christian? What's the difference between "deconstructing" and "wandering with purpose"? Why isn't God more obvious? What does it really mean to have faith?
