Episode #006 – Welcome Officer Technician Jay Castro and his K-9 partner Willy. Jay is a K-9 Officer under the Special Operations Branch of the Uniformed Division. Willy is a Belgian Malinois who entered duty with the U.S. Secret Service on April 1, 2015. The Canine Unit’s mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for individuals and locations protected by the U.S. Secret Service. This coverage includes but is not limited to security sweeps, bomb threats, suspicious packages, vehicles, and material examinations. The Canine Unit provides this coverage on a 24/7 basis in support of the White House Complex, Foreign Missions Branch, and the Vice President’s Residence while supporting protective details worldwide. Belgium Malinois are prized for their versatility and high work-drive, because of this they are highly sought after as police and military K-9s. The American Kennel Club describes the Malinois as confident, smart, and a world-class worker. Episode #005 – Welcome Special Agent Rafael Barros, Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge (ATSAIC) of the Talent and Acquisition Division (TAD) under the Office of Human Resources for the U.S. Secret Service. Joining him is retired Special Agent Tony Chapa. Tony retired as the Assistant Director of the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) after being the Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) of the Los Angeles Field Office. During the Civil War, one-third of the currency in circulation was counterfeit. In 1865 President Abraham Lincoln created the Secret Service under the Treasury Department to suppress the counterfeit and stop counterfeiters. Today the Secret Service has a dual mission of safeguarding the financial and critical infrastructure of the United States and protecting the nation’s leaders. The two core missions of investigations and protection synergize with each other. Combating counterfeit has always been the cornerstone of this elite law enforcement agency, one thing that stands the test of time is taking down counterfeiters. On this episode Special Agent Matt O’Neill, Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge (ATSAIC) of the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) under Investigations (INV) talks with us about Cyber-crime, Identity Theft, Business Email Compromise, his efforts in apprehending computer hackers and the creation of the Global Investigative Operations Center (GIOC). Business Email Compromise (BEC) is an emerging financial cyber threat in which organized groups have targeted various institutions in the form of, companies, non-profits and government organizations. The scheme relies on deceiving the victims through a multifaceted, sophisticated fraud using hackers, social engineers, pre-established bank accounts and employees that have access to an institution’s finances. On this episode, we discuss our partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This initiative is the Childhood Smart Program, which heightens awareness regarding child safety issues. It focuses on delivering age-appropriate real world and Internet safety presentations to children in classrooms, camps, community events, and more. SA Joan Hoback talks with us about the partnership, educational resources, and the importance of outreach to schools and communities regarding the dangers children face online. In 1984, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which established in 1984, is a non-profit organization working with law enforcement, families, and the professionals who serve them on issues related to missing and exploited children. The United State Secret Service (USSS) released their National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) Operational Guide for Preventing School Violence on July 12, 2018. Dr. Alathari talks with us about ensuring safe learning environments for elementary and secondary school students, educators, administrators, and others. We discuss training the Secret Service personnel provides across the country free of charge to help aid in this pursuit. NTAC’S recent releases include Enhancing School Safety Using a Threat Assessment Model, Enhancing School Safety Using a Threat Assessment Model Brief, USSS Report on Mass Attacks in Public Spaces. Along with a quick reference guide titled, "Making Schools Safer." NTAC’s latest study examined 43 attacks directed toward federal facilities and officials in the United States from 2001 – 2013.
