At just 19 years old, Violette Serrat shifted her career ambitions from fashion design and painting to makeup artistry. She began reaching out to photographers and models and producing shoots for free so she could practice her art and build a portfolio. Eventually, her work was recognized by Vogue France, and just a year later, she signed on as makeup director at Dior. Over the next decade, she took on roles at beauty companies such as Sephora, Estée Lauder, and Guerlain. Along the way, she developed her own aesthetic and technique, which she began to share on her popular YouTube channel. In 2021, she made the pivot to build her own company and launched Violette_FR, a beauty brand that encourages people to embrace their natural beauty while also being creative and having fun.

But before Charrière was a leader in fashion media, her early career looked quite different. After graduating from one of the top bilingual law programs in Paris, Charrière took a job at a hedge fund in London but quickly realized she was craving a more creative outlet. While on holiday, Charrière became inspired while scrolling through an early fashion blog, and within the hour, her own blog was up and running. With her digital presence, she was able to land jobs at fashion retailers such as Net-a-Porter and Matches. Eventually, she left these jobs to pursue her career as a blogger and influencer full-time.

Frustrated by the lack of media geared toward Black millennials, DeBaun, who was just 24 years old at the time, left her job at Intuit and set out to build a media company where she would be part of the target demographic. Alongside her co-founders, DeBaun has grown Blavity into a full-on media and tech empire, and today, her portfolio of brands reaches 250 million readers each month. In building Blavity, DeBaun raised $12 million from top venture capital firms, making her a part of the only 2% of women who receive venture funding in Silicon Valley. DeBaun also runs AfroTech, a networking conference and talent-acquisition solution that hosted 25k attendees last year. When DeBaun isn’t working on her own business, she’s consulting for massive global companies such as Pepsi and American Airlines.
