The New York Yankees won a series after losing three straight thanks to a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians in 10 innings. But of course, because it’s the Yankees, there were injuries and weirdness during the game and the action really didn’t get started for the Yanks until later in the game. The hitting hero of the night—aside from the walk-off hero Jose Trevino—was WIllie Calhoun who hit his second homer as a Yankee to put them on the board and the game-tying single in the ninth. Jake Bauers also hit a home run, his first since 2021. We discuss how it may be a bad thing for the Yankees to have so many injuries but it gives guys like Bauers, Calhoun and reliever Ian Hamilton a chance to shine. Try to look at the positives! We also discuss the return of Harrison Bader and what he means to the team. He was injured and had to leave the game on Wendesday night but it looks like he might be okay. The New York Yankees blew a game late to the Cleveland Guardians and lost 3-2. Was it the worst loss of the year? So far, yes! Does this team miss Aaron Judge? Yes! The New York Yankees had a rough time in Texas, ending with a 15-2 loss on Sunday. Stacey and Steve discuss what happened after the Yankees started off so well on Thursday. The New York Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 4-2 in Arlington on Thursday night, which is good, but Aaron Judge was taken out in the fourth inning after feeling discomfort in his right hip. That’s not good. Judge felt it when he woke up after that awkward slide in Minnesota. He won’t be going for tests yet, but he will be out the next couple of days and could miss the rest of the series. Should Yankee fans be worried? Gerrit Cole continues to pitch well. He won his fifth game of the year, and he’s now gone six straight starts without giving up a home run (150 batters faced). We answer your questions because it’s Fan Friday, and we forgot to do hot, cold, and heating up on Thursday’s show, so we did it today instead. (The Yankees’ offensive explosion in Minny distracted us.) We also preview the remainder of the pitching matchups for the weekend in Texas. Friday’s matchup is Clarke Schmidt vs. Jacob deGrom which could be interesting. The New York Yankees’ offense explodes for 12 runs against the Minnesota Twins and they win the last game of the series. Everyone was involved with all hitters getting at least one. Birthday boy Aaron Judge was 3-4 with two doubles and three runs batted, it was the first time he had a multi-hit game in two weeks. The other big key to the game? The fielders had a clean game. One negative? Domingo Germán surrendering three homers but the offense made up for it. Stacey and Steve discuss the Tampa Bay Rays who have been playing over .800 baseball to start the season. The New York Yankees drop another game to the Twins, 6-2 which means they have lost a season series to the Twins for the first time since George W. Bush was President. That snaps a 20-year streak for the Yankees. On Tuesday, Nestor Cortes was good until he wasn’t and in the end he gave up four runs—three earned and picked up the loss. The offense actually scored first, blew the lead and then lost the game. We discuss if/what the Yankees can do in the meanwhile to ignite a spark and if it means possibly cutting Franchy Cordero loose. We also talk about how he’s done so far and who could replace him if they can’t wait for Harrison Bader’s return. We also preview the pitching matchup in the finale on Wednesday in which the Yankees will try and prevent a sweep at the hands of the Twins. The Yankees dropped the first game of the series to the Minnesota Twins, 6-1 on Monday night thanks in big part to an anemic offense who couldn’t get anything going against former Yankee Sonny Gray who held them scoreless for seven innings. Former Yankee Joey Gallo hit his sixth home run of the season and Jhony Brito fell apart in the third inning. It was all a recipe for disaster. The New York Yankees took two of three from the Angels thanks to a 9-3 victory that had an unlikely defensive hero: Isaiah Kiner-Falefa. Nestor Cortes was Nestor Cortes, the bullpen kept the Angels from scoring after the fifth inning and the offense finally took advantage of the opposing pitcher’s mistakes by scoring after getting free passes on the bases. The New York Yankees win an exciting one against the Angels in extras and Stacey and Steve talk about how exciting it was and how it felt like a playoff game in April. Aaron Judge had a big game defensively and offensively. He made two run saving plays, including robbing a home run of Shohei Ohtani and he provided the only offense until the bottom of the 10th inning when Gleyber Torres provided the sac fly to win the game. Jhony Brito rebounded nicely from his start against Minnesota and while it probably wasn’t as long as the Yankees would have liked, he kept the big bats in the Angels’ lineup from doing damage. The Yankees drop a tough one to the Angels, 5-2. Clarke Schmidt had issues again and didn’t make it out of the fourth inning. The offense sputtered and couldn’t get anything going when they had runners on and at one point, 13 Yankees were set down in order. There was one bright spot in this game: The Yankees bullpen. Ron Marinaccio, Jimmy Cordero and Albert Abreu shut things down. Do the Yankees have any options to maybe replace Clarke Schmidt in the rotation. We discuss possible options from Triple-A. It was a wild weekend in New York with the Yankees dropping the first two games of a four-game set to the Minnesota Twins. It ended with a complete-game shutout by Gerrit Cole who outdueled Pablo Lopez and who has looked otherworldly so far in 2023. On Saturday there was controversy with Domingo Germán and his sticky fingers.
