The Millbrook Twins (Part Three: The Now) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:00

In March of 1990, two teenagers disappeared from Augusta, Georgia. Their names are Dannette and Jeannette Millbrook. Early on, the lead detective - who handled all of Augusta's missing teenager cases - zeroed in on the theory that both girls had run away together. This theory began to look less likely with each passing day, but that didn't stop the case from being closed in 1991 and the investigation shuttered until 2013.  In the years since, police and independent investigators have had very little evidence to draw on, basing their understanding of the case on the comments made by that original lead detective. He has placed most of the blame for the case's mishandling on someone - a juvenile probation officer, who knew the family of the twins and volunteered his time.  In this episode, I speak to the sister of the twins, Shanta Sturgis, in the hopes of understanding who this juvenile probation officer was, and why the lead detective has decided to give him the majority of the blame. We also chat the current status of the case, and what you - the listener - can do to help out.  Part three of three.    If you would like to help support the family, you can head to the following link:  https://www.youcaring.com/dannetteandjeannettemillbrook-1090923  This is a crowdfunding effort I have established alongside the hosts of the Fall Line podcast, Brooke and Laurah. We are hoping to put up a billboard in Augusta, to not only inform the area that the case is still very open, but that there is a $8000+ reward for information that leads to any answers for the Millbrook & Sturgis family.    Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music by Lisa Hogan

The Millbrook Twins (Part Two: The Unknown) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:00

On the approximate date of April 8th, 1991, the family of missing teenagers Dannette and Jeannette Millbrook were met by one of the investigators handling their case. The family was told that because their 17th birthday had come-and-gone, that the girls - wherever they were - could no longer be forced to return home.  So the family had to put their faith in a higher power to help their missing relatives return home, because law enforcement had no interest in finding them. Then, just two years after this meeting, one of the police officials contacted NCMEC - the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children - and told them that the girls had been found.  Which is it? Were they still missing, or had they been found? This would just be the beginning of a three-decades-in-the-making mystery, which has consumed the time and effort of Shanta Sturgis, the twins' younger sister. To this day, she (and the rest of the twins' family) has received little-to-no help from law enforcement. I speak to her, and the makers of the Fall Line podcast, in an effort to get to the bottom of law enforcement's hesitance to speak out about this investigation.  The Millbrook Twins (Part One: The Known) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:38:00

In March of 1990, a pair of twins - named Dannette and Jeannette Millbrook - disappeared from their hometown of Augusta, GA.  By all indications, they were just a regular couple of teenagers. They came from a large immediate family, but spent most of their time at home: they sang along to songs on the radio, spent most of their free time lounging around in front of the television, and attended church every Sunday.  But on one particular Sunday - March 18th, 1990 - the twins walked through the neighborhood, hoping to collect bus fare from their godfather. They visited their godfather, then their cousin, and finally their sister, before stopping by a convenience store to buy some snacks. When they left the store, they were never seen again.  I am joined by the younger sister of the twins, Shanta Sturgis, as well as the hosts of the podcast The Fall Line.  Part one of three.    Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music by Lisa Hogan   Follow along with Shanta at her Facebook group, Missing Dannette and Jeannette Millbrook, which can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/twwinsfammily/ Check out The Fall Line podcast, whose website can be found at: https://www.thefalllinepodcast.com/   If you want to support this episode's sponsor, and save $20 from your first order at Winc, check out: trywinc.com/unresolved If you want to support this podcast's endeavor to become a weekly show, head to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to pledge your support Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me

The Beaumont Children (Update) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:23:00

In January of 1966, the disappearance of three children became one of the 20th century's most enduring mysteries. 9-year old Jane, 7-year old Arnna, and 4-year old Grant were trusted to trusted by their parents, Jim and Nancy, to spend the day at the nearby Glenelg Beach. When they failed to return home on their 2:00 PM bus, Australia's biggest search operation was launched to find them.  It has been over fifty years, and the three kids have never been found. But now, police have picked up on a new lead, involving a person I briefly mention in episodes 10 and 11. I also talk about some other persons-of-interest that have cropped up over the past couple of years.    Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan  Huge thanks to Lisa Hogan for supplying her original music, including today's track, "Troglodyte Excerpt."

 Jack Robinson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:45:00

In August of 1996, newly-retired Jack L. Robinson was prepared to start the next chapter of his life. After spending twenty-five years in the United States Air Force (including a stint in Vietnam) and an additional twenty years as a civil servant working at Moncrief Army Health Clinic in his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, Jack had accomplished more than most.  On an uneventful summer day, Jack went down to the Rosewood Boat Landing in his old neighborhood of Olympia. This boat ramp, which not many locals were aware of, was hidden behind the rock quarry. Yet Jack found himself there at approximately 6:00 PM on August 17th. He started talking to a younger man, and the two walked into a nearby clearing. Soon, their argument took a violent turn, and Jack was murdered at the hands of this unknown assailant.  In this episode, I go through the story, and try to separate the facts from the theories. I also speak to Jack's only child, Tammy, who has kept the case alive online and in the media.    Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan   Music Graham Bole - "We Are One" Robert Farmer - "Why So Seeming Fast But So Deadly Slow" Cory Gray - "Piano (Anticipation)" Daniel James Dolby - "Broken Things" Borrtex - "Silence"

 Freeman & Bible | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:55:00

On December 29th, 1999, a teenager named Lauria Bible was spending the night with her friend, Ashley Freeman. They were celebrating Ashley's 16th birthday, and it was the first time that Lauria had been allowed over to Ashley's home in a year-and-a-half.  The reasoning that Lauria hadn't been allowed over was because Ashley's father, Danny Freeman, had a bit of a reputation. He had long been rumored to have a temper, as well as an abusive relationship with his children: Ashley, as well as her older brother, Shane. Shane had been shot and killed by police months beforehand, sending patriarch Danny further into a downward spiral. At around 6:00 AM, on the morning of December 30th, a passing motorist noticed flames emerging from the Freeman's country home. When police arrived, they found a suspicious scene... but the events that would unfold later on cemented this story as one of the most enduring mysteries of the 21st century.   Written by Kristen Skinner Hosted, produced, and additional writing by Micheal Whelan Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me   Music Original music by Monty Buckles Robert Farmer - "I Wonder What The World Is Doing Now" Borrtex - "Wondering" Scott Holmes - "Nostalgic Resonance" Elisa Luu - "Piano 5-1" Parvus Decree - "Gliese 581C" Astral Shit - "Vindicta Lost-Radio Reshape" Borrtex - "One Moment" Kai Engel - "Silence"

The Brabant Killers (Part Five: Theories & Suspects II) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:03:00

Following the final attack by the Brabant Killers, the police investigation struggled to find any real progress. Suspects like Madani Bouhouche and Robert Beijer came and went, with only tentative ties to extremist groups being found.  As the 1980s came to an end, trouble behind-the-scenes spelled trouble for investigators. Prosecutors were sent packing, parliamentary commissions were created and then concluded, and suspects continued to emerge. First came Phillipe de Staercke - a violent thug with a proclivity for violence - who had ties to a well-armed government official, named Jean Bultot. Then came Patrick Haemers, a well-known Belgian criminal who committed suicide in the early 1990s.  This episode also details the fledgling investigation as it progressed into the 2000s, and includes some of the more... "outlandish" theories, as well as recent updates that inspire confidence in the survivor's demands for justice. Part five of five.    Info Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music by T.  The Brabant Killers (Part Four: Theories & Suspects I) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:44:00

On November 9th, 1985, the Brabant Killers struck for the last time. This attack - which was the bloodiest yet - resulted in eight people dead, seven others injured, and a criminal investigation that was plagued from the very beginning.  The Brabant Killers happened to attack in the middle of a very tumultuous time for Belgium. Terrorist organizations were rising up during that time period, from different sides of the political spectrum. The Westland New Post were right-wing extremists, lead by Paul Latinus and Michel Libert... Latinus would commit suicide mysteriously in the early days of 1984, and Libert would be officially questioned by police for Brabant involvement as recently as 2014. Meanwhile, the left-leaning Communist Combatant Cells - who had bombed various targets through 1984 and 1985 - were led by a man named Pierre Carette, who would find himself behind bars at the same time the Brabant attacks ended. As the investigation proceeded, officials began to suspect police involvement. Soon, after the mysterious murder of Juan Mendez in 1986, they found themselves on the heels of two men named Madani Bouhouche and Robert Beijer... both of whom have been suspected as Brabant Killer suspects ever since.  Part four of five.   Info Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music by T. Nordgren Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me   Music Credits Delicasession - "Horizon" Blue Dot Sessions - "Olivia Wraithe"   Sponsors - Head to Harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's shave set - Use offer code "UNRESOLVED15" at Sudio Sweden

The Brabant Killers (Part Three: 1985) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:45:00

Throughout 1982 and 1983, three criminals terrorized the area of Brussels. Starting off with nothing more than ski masks and a single rifle, the three quickly armed themselves with military-grade equipment and became feared for their brutal robberies. In 1984, the Killers disappeared. The public at-large waited for the investigation to make progress, but before long, the "Mad Killers of Belgium" returned to commit their most heinous attacks yet.  Part three of five.    Info Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music and production by T. Nordgren Additional editing by Elias at e-Audio Productions Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me   Music Credits Pipe Choir - "Monachine"   Sponsors - Head to Harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's shave set - Head to Sudio Sweden's website and use the offer code "UNRESOLVED15" to save 15% on any pair of headphones

The Brabant Killers (Part Two: 1983) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:48:00

Throughout 1982, Belgian police were concerned over a rash of strange attacks plaguing the Brussels area. All involved criminals matching the same basic descriptions, but lacked any real motive. They seemed to be the actions of a mysterious gang lashing out... but at something or someone without any real purpose.  Going into 1983, these attacks would continue. Worse, they would escalate, with the gang becoming more bold and violent throughout the year. Car jackings, robberies, murders - it seemed like there were no ethical concerns for these mysterious criminals, who would continue to act throughout 1983, before disappearing under mysterious circumstances.  Part two of five.    Info Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music and production by T. Nordgren Additional editing by Elias at e-Audio Productions Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me   Sponsors - Head to harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's trial shave set - Head to Sudio Sweden's website to use offer code "UNRESOLVED15" to save 15% on any pair of headphones

The Brabant Killers (Part One: 1982) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:32:00

In 1982, a group of offenders began striking the Brussels area of Belgium. It began with a series of small robberies, but - by the end of the year - had progressed to full-blown murder.  Though their criminal career was still in its apparent infancy, the Brabant Killers - also known as the Brabant Gang and the Gang Of Nivelles - would go on to become Belgium's most violent and mysterious criminals. Over thirty years later, their identities and motives are still unknown.  Bible John | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:58:00

In February of 1968, 25-year old Patricia Docker visited the Barrowland Ballroom on a Thursday evening, leaving her son in the care of her parents. She was estranged from her husband but still legally married, so she didn't tell anyone her apparent destination, for fear of judgment.  You see, Thursday nights at the Barrowland Ballroom came with a reputation. Some of the Thursday patrons were adulterers, looking for a night of fun away from the stresses of everyday life. One killer used this reputation to his advantage. In addition to Docker, this killer also claimed the lives of two more women: 32-year old Jemima McDonald in August of 1969, and 29-year old Helen Puttock just two months later in the latter days of October. Despite unique details about the suspect being released to the public, as well as one of the most intricate sketches in Scottish history, the identity of the figure named "Bible John" has remained a mystery for the ages.    Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me    Written by Robert Cron  Hosted, produced, and additional writing by Micheal Whelan  Additional music and production by T. Nordgren
