The Spanish Dude Podcast (Audio)

Summary: If you’ve always wanted to learn Spanish, but didn’t think it was possible because you were terrible at Spanish in high school, or you don’t get sucked into Rosetta Stone-style hype–you’ve come to the right place. I’m a normal person, not some big company and not some native Spanish speaker. I’m not a natural language learner at all actually. My first brush with Spanish ended with me getting an F in high school! But somewhere along the way, I fell in love! I’m not sure if I love Spanish because I love traveling, or I love traveling because I love Spanish (and food). But I love them both. Naturally, I want more people to love what I love, but I know that you probably don’t see Spanish like I do… not yet! That’s the point of this podcast. I want to show you that there is ANOTHER WAY! That most of the strategies and tactics they used to teach us Spanish in high school are IGNORANT. They are ignorant to our plight. I know your mistakes. I understand why you make them. They were my mistakes too! I remember the pain and the agony of having to figure it all out myself because... let’s just say... I was underwhelmed with the resources out there. Well, now with these videos (or audios) you don’t don’t have to waste the years I did.

Tragedy & Triumph: The Story of a Spanish Dude | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:04

I made my first Spanish video three and a half years ago. It didn’t go well the first year. I made negative dollars. I switched gears in the second year, January of 2014. That’s when I started Gringo Español. In the beginning, I was just uploading free videos. And nobody was watching. But by the time the 6-month mark hit, I knew I had “something”. The crowd was starting to gather. In September of 2014, I released my second premium course. That’s when things really started to roll. Then finally, over the last eight months, with four premium courses, Gringo Español became a real business that provided me a nice income. But a few weeks ago, on May 3rd, Facebook deleted the Gringo Español Facebook page without explanation. And with it, they took half my business. This is my story. I assure you, I don’t do sad endings. P.S. Make sure to LIKE my new FB page if you don’t want to miss my videos: http://facebook.com/spanishdude

 The Puzzle Strategy (S03E07) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:17

Hola! This is a brand-new video. I’ve been meaning to make this one for a while. The Puzzle Strategy is the best strategy I’ve got for improving your Spanish fast. With The Puzzle Strategy, not only will you learn new words and grammar–and see how real Spanish sentences are formed… But when you do The Puzzle Strategy, you’ll identify specifically what you need to work on. However, The Puzzle Strategy isn’t for the faint of heart. If you’re a beginner, it might make you cry. If you’re intermediate, it’ll make you sweat. Your job is to work through that pain. I have an adorable, 14-month-old niece. When she attempts to do something she can already do, she’s happy! But when she tries something she CAN’T already do–she gets flustered. She cries. Sometimes she quits. Don’t be like my 14-month-old niece. You can cry. But don’t quit. The reason most people don’t speak a foreign language is, it’s hard. They get frustrated. And they quit. If you want to speak Spanish for real… In real life… With real people… You need to persevere. So WATCH The Puzzle Strategy video. Then DO The Puzzle Strategy. Persevere. GRIT it out. You won’t be sorry. No pain, no gain. Thank you sir, may I have another? Have fun. Get your cry on. See ya next week! Jordan P.S.  Reflexive Verbs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:12

Reflexive verbs are a little weird in Spanish. Not hard. Just weird. Do you even know what reflexive verbs are? Yeah, neither did I. We just don’t use them that much in English. And that’s the problem. Most Spanish courses and books don’t specifically compare what happens in Spanish to what happens in English. But that’s how we learn–CONTEXT! (how does this fit with everything I already know?) So the goal of this video is simple: show you what reflexive verbs are, and how and when to use them in both English and Spanish. But along the way, you’ll also see how they compare to direct and indirect object pronouns (the last two videos). There are lots of similarities–and lots of differences too (that’s part of the confusion). BONUS: The word “se” in Spanish is very confusing. Because it has many different uses and meanings. This video touches on one of them. “Ver” is the verb. “Verse” is the REFLEXIVE verb (same thing, just with “se” on the end). When you’re done, not only will you finally understand reflexive verbs and how to use them. But you’ll be one step closer to understanding that crazy word “se” also! Watch the video. Maybe twice. You’ll get it. I swear. And I’m here for questions, of course. Hasta luego! Jordan All resources for this episode can be found here: https://spanishdude.com/quickies/reflexive-verbs/?podcast

Indirect Object Pronouns | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:51

I either didn’t learn or don’t remember this from school (as humans, we often block out traumatic events): Indirect object pronouns. As opposed to direct object pronouns. But when I started learning Spanish, I noticed right away–the pronouns were really confusing! One problem is… What is a direct object? What is an indirect object? Then another problem is… In English, direct object pronouns are the same as indirect object pronouns. In Spanish, they’re not. So in this video, I’ll show you: 1) What direct and indirect objects even are (in English). 2) How what they do in Spanish is different than what we do in English. 3) The difference between direct object pronouns and indirect object pronouns in Spanish (there’s no difference in English). If pronouns confuse you, watch this video. It’ll really clear things up. Hasta luego!
