We have been blessed by a cornucopia of new American Heart Association guidelines to discuss and for that we are truly thankful. Like most Thanksgiving meals our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we ended up with a TON of stuffing. So rather than give you that brain equivalent of the lead weight in your stomach, Jarrod, Brian and I have broken up our review of the AHA guidelines into November and December portions for your mental digestion.  This month we feature our highlights of the new BLS and ACLS guidelines updates along with a historical perspective of resuscitation and the AHA guidelines by none other than Dr. Peter Rosen. October is here and that means it’s time for light sweaters in 80 degree temps and a new episode of AZEMCast.  This month we get another visit from the world’s worst ER doc while Jarrod and I discuss cross fit and the rhabdomyolysis and compartment syndrome that goes with it. Brian Drummond wants to know why you’re giving cephalexin to that tuft’s fx and has some papers to back him up. We garner some words of wisdom from Peter Rosen on dealing with conflicts in patient care. And we cap off this month with a peer review from Class of 2014 alumnus Dr. Casey Solem. The last AZEMCast of the academic year is upon us (barely). In honor of summer and all of the motorized vehicles it represents, this month we cover Traumatic Brain Injury and several of the new directions we are headed toward managing this complex disease. We get a visit from a recent graduate to help ease (or frighten) our seniors into their new jobs. Finally, Peter Rosen tells it like it is in a frank comment about the role of consultants in the ED. It’s time again for AZEMCast! With Jarrod and I both on new daddy duty, we are bringing you back to the practical. Quite frankly, we’re too tired for existential, philosophical pondering of emergency medicine. Maybe next month. This month, we sit down with our Toxicologists to discuss how to work up that weird patient that isn’t quite “neuro,” isn’t quite “psych” and might be “tox.” We finally answer a listener request and discuss documentation of the neuro exam with Dr. Al Fiorello. Happy February from AZEMCast. It's time one again for the Residency In Training Exam and we have combined forces with Brian to work with and not against him. We tried to cover some of the common topics, common traps and common issues that show up on your exam. We spice it up with some stories, some anecdotes and, because it's Valentine's Day, a little something to set the mood.DISCLAIMER: We know nothing about what is on your exam and would likely fail it if we did take it.For those of you who are not taking an exam in two weeks, just stop and think about how lucky you are and be sure to hug a resident if they look stressed.
