 November 2015: 2015 AHA Guidelines - Part 1 | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:55:30

We have been blessed by a cornucopia of new American Heart Association guidelines to discuss and for that we are truly thankful. Like most Thanksgiving meals our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we ended up with a TON of stuffing. So rather than give you that brain equivalent of the lead weight in your stomach, Jarrod, Brian and I have broken up our review of the AHA guidelines into November and December portions for your mental digestion.  This month we feature our highlights of the new BLS and ACLS guidelines updates along with a historical perspective of resuscitation and the AHA guidelines by none other than Dr. Peter Rosen. So, loosen your belt and make room for seconds of AZEMCast! -Aaron, Jarrod and Brian

October 2015: Compartment Syndrome, Fingertip Fractures and Difficult Consultants | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:57:39

October is here and that means it’s time for light sweaters in 80 degree temps and a new episode of AZEMCast.  This month we get another visit from the world’s worst ER doc while Jarrod and I discuss cross fit and the rhabdomyolysis and compartment syndrome that goes with it. Brian Drummond wants to know why you’re giving cephalexin to that tuft’s fx and has some papers to back him up. We garner some words of wisdom from Peter Rosen on dealing with conflicts in patient care. And we cap off this month with a peer review from Class of 2014 alumnus Dr. Casey Solem. Our world's worst ER doc tries to admit a syncope patient and Dr. Peter Rosen weighs in on our duty to the chest pain patient from his medical and personal point of view. Remember to take a screenshot of the articles and supplement our wild ramblings with good literature! -Aaron, Jarrod and Brian

 2015 June AZEMCast | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:16:30

The last AZEMCast of the academic year is upon us (barely). In honor of summer and all of the motorized vehicles it represents, this month we cover Traumatic Brain Injury and several of the new directions we are headed toward managing this complex disease. We get a visit from a recent graduate to help ease (or frighten) our seniors into their new jobs. Finally, Peter Rosen tells it like it is in a frank comment about the role of consultants in the ED. Two years in the books; thanks for listening! -Aaron, Jarrod and Brian

 AZEMCast 2015 - May | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:59:34

Happy May! We hope everyone had a great memorial day and are revving up for summer. This month we tackle children (well, not literally). We discuss the latest paper on pediatric hypothermia in cardiac arrest, post-resuscitation care, what EM docs actually do with tiny febrile kids and another great Rosenism.  We are asking for feedback as we get closer to the end of the year so please take 5 minutes to fill out the 7 questions survey below. It will help us make the podcast better and it will make Jarrod and Brian cry if you don’t. Survey: https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3jGNgb8ebFqd3Pn Enjoy! Aaron, Jarrod and Brian

 April 2015 AZEMCast | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:04:13

It’s time again for AZEMCast! With Jarrod and I both on new daddy duty, we are bringing you back to the practical. Quite frankly, we’re too tired for existential, philosophical pondering of emergency medicine. Maybe next month. This month, we sit down with our Toxicologists to discuss how to work up that weird patient that isn’t quite “neuro,” isn’t quite “psych” and might be “tox.” We finally answer a listener request and discuss documentation of the neuro exam with Dr. Al Fiorello. Finally, we close out strong with a Rosenism on trying to get experience with the last few procedures you haven’t done in residency.Enjoy!Aaron and Jarrod

 March 2015 AZEMCast | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:00:16

It's March and AZEMCast is back with more Emergency Medicine frivolity! This month we discuss fluid in the ED. How much, what kind, and who really needs that bolus we all want to fire off. We get some feedback from our community alumni and a rebuttal from Dr. Drummond. We've really tried to pack in the evidence this month so get your screenshot fingers ready to capture some knowledge.Aaron, Jarrod and Brian

 February 2015 AZEMCast | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:02:35

Happy February from AZEMCast. It's time one again for the Residency In Training Exam and we have combined forces with Brian to work with and not against him. We tried to cover some of the common topics, common traps and common issues that show up on your exam. We spice it up with some stories, some anecdotes and, because it's Valentine's Day, a little something to set the mood.DISCLAIMER: We know nothing about what is on your exam and would likely fail it if we did take it.For those of you who are not taking an exam in two weeks, just stop and think about how lucky you are and be sure to hug a resident if they look stressed. We'll get back to our usual stuff next month but we want to get this one out within the study period.Happy February from Aaron, Jarrod and Brian.

 January 2015 AZEMCast | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:03:57

 December 2014 AZEMCast | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:09:37

It's the end of the year and time for the last episode of AZEMCast . . . until next year. Jarrod and I take an existential turn this time around and discuss deep, philosophical topics in EM like defining admission criteria, how much should we be expected to know about echocardiography and where is bedside ultrasound headed in EM. Then Peter Rosen and Brian Drummond give us their opinions and put us right back in our place. Happy New Year and good luck to those of you who are working!Aaron and Jarrod
