When the massive Sears store closed in 1994, it marked the end of an era. The Lake Street landmark had sold paint, ladders, clothes and family portraits to generations of Minneapolis residents. The shuttering also worried city officials and neighborhood leaders. Could the 14-story Sears Tower that spans three city blocks be saved? The answer, it turns out, is “yes.”
