Klamath County Commissioner Tom Mallams joins us to explain his opposition to the plan.

The University of Oregon seriously launched a comics and cartoon studies minor last year, the first of its kind in the country. It offers students a wide selection of courses from art history to Asian studies. Department Director Benjamin Saunders and Assistant Professor Glynne Walley join us to share where the program is going and how the program got started.

Pamala Joy, Director of the Ashland Food Angels, collects food from markets and bakeries around the Rogue Valley to help feed low income families. She was recently presented with the E-Chievement award (from public radio's eTown) for her work.  We catch up with her on her latest  recycling efforts, as well as her continued push to help those in need.

Yes, he charged up San Juan Hill in Cuba with a unit called The Rough Riders. Yes, he actually delivered a speech with a bullet still in his body, after being shot. But Roosevelt's image belied his background as the privileged son of a prominent New York family.  His work in and for New York is the subject of Edward P. Kohn's book Heir to the Empire City: New York and the Making of Theodore Roosevelt.

In actual dollars, other states rank higher, but Oregon families pay a greater portion of their income for child care than in any other state. The average is 14 percent of income, and the percentage climbs for infants. Jada Rupley, Oregon's Early Learning System director, explains the dynamics of the situation, and possible solutions.
