The upper receiver block that you have linked in your show notes does not work on Billet upper receivers. I bought the Midwest Industries Billet upper and it was too big and didn't allow the clam to shut. I had to go with a "take down style" upper receiver style. I like the  Geissele Reaction Rod better though. James:  Reed, In episode 77 mike mentioned a 1-4 scope that he was recommending but I wasn't able to catch who the manufacturer was or where to buy it. Can you let me know who makes the scope please? Mike:  Hi Guys, You might have covered this in an episode I haven't heard yet: On a flat top AR, where should the front and rear sights be placed?  I'm building an AR with a flat top receiver. It has the entire length, so I can put the sights at any point. I'd like to start off with sights so that I can get used to using them and save up for a better quality optic. I've searched the internet but haven't had much luck finding an answer. Hope you guys can help. Tom J:  Hey guys have a question about barrels linings, what is the advantages to a SBN (salt bath Nitride) and chrome lined barrel? Always look forward to the podcast every week if you have talked about this before please let me know I've slept since then. Keep up the good work. Mark:  Good afternoon gentlemen, I just found your podcast and it's now in my podcast rotation (I listen to over 15 different ones a week). I have not listened to many of your back episodes yet so please forgive me if you have already covered this. I am looking to build a 9mm conversion AR using an AR lower. The reason I am not getting a dedicated lower is due to where I live...Upstate New York.  Do you have any suggestions for a 9mm conversion block?  I see Brownells has 2 but would appreciate any feedback you have on them as well as any words of wisdom for the upper components as well. Thanks for a great show. Outro: Enter the AR-15 Podcast Rifle Giveaway sponsored by Brownells by going to www.ar15podcast.com/winner to join the FRN mailing list. Main Topic:   Slings (Brownells has 69 different slings for sale) Types 1 point 2 point 3 point Different purposes (TAB Biathlon sling) M1907 (Appleseed special) Materials Stretchy Padded Fireproof Attachment Points Type Sling/bipod stud Strap slots QD, flushcup Hook Placement On stock Receiver end plate (ASAP plate, Noveske end plate) Built into rail Rail attachment Usage of slings Hanging rifle for movement or other tasks Extra support for precision fire Network Feedback: Doug Hartley (Powerfactor Show):  I use Viking Tactics 2 point slings on my long guns.  http://www.vikingtactics.com/product-p/vtac-mk1.htm  I like them because they are easily adjustable for my needs and are robust and reasonably priced. Ryan Cross:  Coitac single point- generally the bungee kind with the option to swap out the attachment point for clip, swivel stud, etc. Nick (Practically Tactical):  Hi Reed,  I currently have the MagPul MS3 Multi-Mission sling for running in a single point configuration. I tend to prefer one point as I think it gives a free-er range of motion and makes using my hands for non-firearm moves better. I am, however, starting to look into 2 point slings and learning how to use them more effectively (I think that is why many people use a 1-point sling), I think I will be buying the Way Of The Gun ( sling. Here is a video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY3mMd2L8mc Good Luck on the show, Savage1r:  I like 2 point slings, because that's what I'm used to having and it secures the rifle well. I recently got a 1 point sling for my AR to try out, and it's ok, I'm just not a fan of the rifle bouncing around and having to hold it with one hand. Jeremy P:  Condor Combat Bungee sling, in it's two point configuration. Like it because when set up it falls in front and keeps the rifle at the ready but doesn't swing around as much like a one point sling does, and can also be adjusted for use with body armor. Michael C.:  Reed,  For tactical or patrol....or for patroling the streets in Iraq or Afghanastain = Viking Tactical Sling  (http://www.vikingtactics.com/product-p/vtac-mk2.htm)   I wish there had been a padded verision when I used it. For Competition I like the Turner Leather sling with the numbers (http://www.creedmoorsports.com/shop/Turner_Custom_made_Leather_Military_Rifle_Sling.html).  For an AR you need to use the 56", the standard military length of 48" is too short.  The 48 is for Garands and M1A / M-14. If you just want something neat to carry your rifle the paracord sling is kind of cool (http://www.creedmoorsports.com/shop/Paracord-GunSling.html) The Cobra Tactical BAT sling (http://www.cobratactical.com/Cobra-Tactical-BATS-Tactical-Weapon-Sling_p_3279.html) is kind of cool too, its based on the British Royal Commando sling used on the L85 rifle.  This sling allows you to put the rifle into backpack mode for climbing.  The one thing I don't like about the sling is you adjust it by reaching behind with your right hand.   Kind of hard to do if your shoulders are tight. Hope this helps. Anthony M:  Hi Reed,

I just want to revise a question I had sent in earlier this week. I'm trying to decide where to get a barrel from for my .300blk SBR build. I want to get a quality barrel, but I don't know what to look for. I've heard the benefits of chrome lining and nitride lining, but I don't know what a reasonable price is because Aero Precision is selling an 8 inch CrMoVa barrel for $210, but the 9" barrel from AAC that has a nitride coating and an installed gas block is $425. That seems like a crazy price compared to the Aero one, but maybe it isn't. Being a newbie to the industry, I would love to hear from some more experienced guys on what to do for a barrel. I want quality, but I'm on a fairly tight budget. What's a good compromise? I'd rather spend a little more if it's going to last a lot longer for me. Any help is appreciated, and thanks so much for the awesome giveaway! I do have one question on that though, I know that I can enter through subscribing to the newsletter, leaving a review on iTunes, or stitcher, but what I'm not clear on is if there can be multiple entries? If I do all three do I get three entries? Thanks again, Damian:  Hi Guys, I just found your show! I am building my 1st AR and was pleased to hear discussion on building one in your 75th episode. I have a couple newbie questions that I have not been able to answer yet: Do I have to worry about upper / lower pairing (dimensions, gaps, etc) from different manufactures or is this taken care of by the mil specs? Along the same lines are there any other dimensions I should be watchful of while building and mixing parts? Coatings Coatings Coatings, Melonite, NiB, NiB-X, Teflon, etc, good bad & ugly and one manuf. to the next, quoting quality. I'm leaning towards NiB-X. I always see a lot of reviews talking about budget builds but could you do a good, better and top of the line comparison with reasoning? Thanks, I'm excited to listen more for the piece part manufacture comparisons and your choice logic! Robert W: Reed I really enjoy your podcast, I work for An Armored Truck company and listen to the AR15 podcast and other podcasts on the Firearms Radio Network using "doggcatcher" podcast aggregator for Android while working.
