Last year we planted it, BUT the doves did not come. We had such a severe drought last year, the doves were just nowhere to be found. Well, Chuck and I are at it again this year, planting about 4 acres of brown top millet and sunflowers. Our goal once again, is to have our kids bust some doves.
It is my favorite time of the year when turkey season is over and it is time to get those trail cameras out and start monitoring for antler growth and fawn recruitment. Watch this video to learn about how our strategy is going to change this year and stay tuned for our photos.
In this webisode, we take you around our lease to show you the different food plots we planted this spring and summer. We deviated from our management plan a little and we will discuss these changes. Enjoy this video and pray with us for more rain.
I can sum up this season in one word -- WOW! We had a great year and if you been following all our videos, I do not think you can argue against that. We captured 14 videos of 15 turkey kills in Florida, Georgia, and for our first time in Kansas.
Chuck and I went on a turkey hunt with Mike Wheeler of Wheeler's Whitetails in Kansas. We knew he had a ton of turkeys with a near 100% success rate but I have to admit we went with an ulterior motive. You see, Mike grows and kills some of the biggest bucks in the Midwest.
Now Tad has killed 5 Osceola gobblers over the last 4 years (2 this year) but the Eastern turkeys have always seemed to stay out of his reach. He has had a couple of shots but missed both times in Mississippi.
Since I was tagged out in Kansas, I videoed Chuck's last gobbler. I enjoyed hunting with him and I am not going to get too much into the story here because he covers it in the video intro. I am going to add that I was upset when he let this gobbler initially walk off due to the weather coming.
This is the same evening that I shot my bird in the clover when Chuck Campbell connected on his first Kansas bird. He had his decoys setup and it enticed the bird across this huge Kansas field. One more thing to add is to pay attention to how this turkey flops when he shoots him.
Now this is the evening hunt of the same day I had killed my first Kansas bird. Mike had me sitting in this mixed clover field that was up to my waist. I would say this was the most stressful hunt of the year for me. Watch the video to see what happens next.
I had not planned on traveling to hunt turkeys this year until Chuck twisted my arm and said he needed someone to go back to Kansas with him since he did not kill his birds with a bow. Mike Wheeler, of Wheelers Whitetails, was nice enough to invite him back and let him drag me along.
This year we decided to put a couple of gravity/nudge feeders on the club. We shopped around but could not find one we liked, nor could afford, so we decided to buy all the components and put them together ourselves. After we put them out, the majority of the deer have yet to figure them out.
This is the last in a 3 part series where Ms. Gabbie Campbell has been proving how good a turkey thumpers she is becoming. They returned from Kansas and decided to give Georgia another try. They had a score to settle with these GA gobblers.
Now in the last webisode you saw Gabbie Campbell get her first bird. In this hunt, Chuck and Gabbie are still in Kansas trying to get a double, Chuck with his bow and Gabbie with her gun. They had 2 nice gobblers come in. Watch the video to see who connected and who did not.
Chuck and his 12 year old daughter, Gabbie, have been hunting hard in both Florida and Georgia but were coming up short. They then went on a road trip to Kansas for youth weekend and they got her first bird. This gobbler strutted for hours before finally committing to their setup. Watch this video.
It has been about a month since we have released a Reality Hunt Club webisode. Some of you might wonder what we have been doing. Well, we have been thumping turkeys on our club. Watch this video for some of our hunts.
