My take on the classic ballad. Two finger thumb-lead style. Nylgut strung Brooks Spartan, tuned gDGBD. ("Tune of the Week 2/5/2010" http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/170119)

Usually play this on fretless, but this time it's a Buckeye 12" maple fretted banjo with a nice, thick skin head.

Learned this nearly 35 years ago from BHO member John Pedersen, banjo and fiddle player extraordinaire; this is his take on the familiar Henry Reed tune. Played on a Brooks 11.5" Silverspun banjo, set-up with a skin head.

This is a waltz I wrote several years ago on the banjo, and recorded with Mark Hellenberg on ukulele on the Hotpoint Stringband album Light Fuse Get Away. When the terrible tsunami hit South Asia on the day after Christmas (aka Boxing Day) in 2004, it was a disaster of unbelievable proportions, but also memorable was the way there was a huge outpouring of love and contributions from the rest of the world toward the victims of the tsunami. This sad but hopeful tune is about that.
We call ourselves Colonel Terry and the Jake Leg Wobblers. Here we're playing an old Kentucky fiddle tune in G called "Bacon Rind" at the Firefly Coffee House in Fort Wayne, Ind. Terry Thacker is playing fiddle, Matthew Katinsky on guitar and me playing a fretless Enoch tradesman on this particular tune. Terry was recently named an official Kentucky colonel by the state's governor.
My submission 12/4/09 for Tuna the Week. A Texas waltz written around the turn of the 20th Century.
